This study was conducted in order to empirically analyze factors affecting the quality of life in the elder resulting from the use of elderly leisure facilities in the community. For this purpose, we surveyed the elder using the senior health town of Gwang-ju Metropolitan City to see whether the quality of life in the elder is influenced by factors such as facilities' environment within the health town, the capacity for the staff and instructors, and the elders' satisfaction with programs. The results of this study are expected to provide practical solutions for enhancing the quality of life in senior users. The survey was performed with 1,038 elders aged over 60 who were using the senior health town of Gwang-ju Metropolitan City by using a self-administered questionnaire and being interviewed with surveyors. The period of the survey was from the 10th to 15th of December, 2010. According to the results of this study, variables affecting the elders' quality of life were academic qualification (B= .074, p<0.05), instructors satisfaction (B=.172, p<0.001), staff satisfaction (B=.104, p<0.01), and facilities and environment satisfaction (B=.217, p<0.001). That is, the lower academic background they have, the higher instructors', staff's, facilities and environment's satisfaction are, the quality of life in the elder was positively affected. In particular, facilities and environment's satisfaction show a relatively high effect and this suggests the necessity to modernize cultural and leisurely facilities in community for senior citizens and create pleasant environment in order to improve the quality of life in the elder.

The investigation group was composed of 79 elder men and 117 elder women in Sungjugun Kyungsangbukdo. Data were collected from 1 July, 2002 to 31 July, 2002. In conclusion, diet habits and nutritional intakes were poor in the elderly older than 65 years of age so that they need regular food intake habit and balanced nutrition to obtain enough nutrients to maintain healthy lives. And the following suggestions are made. Firstly, multi-directional studies are needed to improve nutritional intakes, prevent diseases, and improve quality of life in the elderly. Secondly, in-depth studies are needed with various and more people related with Sasang constitutions. Thirdly, we need to screen for risk factors of poor nutrition in each constitution for systemic maintenance of nutritional status and health management in the ever increasing elderly population. For this purpose, an objective investigative tool befitting the situation in Korea should be developed. Fourthly, comparative studies on diet habit and nutritional status are needed by investigating the relationship between Sasang constitutions and diseases. Fifthly, food menu should be proposed according to Sasang constitutions to be utilized as basic data of longevity study.

Due to difficulty of marriage with women in Korea, unmarried men in countryside tend to have an international marriage. A ratio of international marriage was 3.7% in 2004, but increased by over 10% in 2004 due to the change of population composition in countryside. This study was performed to assess diet quality in the postmenopausal women. The data of dietary intakes were obtained using food frequency questionnaires which were collected from 151 postmenopausal women in urban area. We evaluated nutrient intake and diet quality. Diet quality was assessed by NAR(nutrient adequacy ratio), FGIP(food group intake pattern), DDS(dietary diversity score), DVS(dietary variety score), FGS(food group score), DQI(diet quality index). Nutrient intakes of the subjects were close to Korean RDA. Nutrient composition of the diet(in percentage of total energy) was 64% carbohydrate, 15% protein, and 19% protein, and 19% total fat, that was close to 65 : 15 : 20. NAR of most nutrients, except vitamin A, E, were higher than 0.75 and MAR was 0.88. NAR and MAR of the subjects in theis study were higher than those of the subjects of rural area in other studies. The subjects who consumed the five food groups were 60.9%. The mean of DDS was 4.5. The subjects who consumed more than 61 dish items during a month were 61.5%. The mean of DVS was 62.4 and it was significantly higher in the elder age group. 67.6% of the subjects were below FGS of 12. The mean of FGS was 10.6 and few subjects consumed serving numbers of each food groups which were recommended for Koreans. 55.0% of the subjects were DQI scores of 0, 1, and 2. The mean of DQI was 2.3 and few subjects followed the five dietary guidelines for Korean.
Singapore and Thailand have been rapidly ageing. There has been a growing demand for eldercarers in the home-setting for which migrant domestic workers have filled the role. This paper examines the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Consensus governing women migrant workers entering the eldercare sector. It argues that because the ASEAN Consensus is not legally binding, it only serves to reinforce the sovereignty of states in the treatment of migrant workers instead of member states acting in unison to ensure labour protections for this group; as a result, Singapore and Thailand do not feel the need to step up protections for this group of workers according to national labor laws and hence low-skilled women migrant workers entering the eldercare sector continue to be vulnerable to labour abuses. Thus as with globalization, the ASEAN Economic Community manifests the paradox of borders: that while states are economically interconnected and interdependent, they are simultaneously disconnected and independent from each other.

The purpose of this study was conducted with senior women of ages 65 in Community Center to identify effective exercise methods for preventing falling accidents by enhancing balancing skills through aerobic and foam roller exercise programs. There were 24 subjects : 11 aerobics group and 13 foam roller group. 30 minute exercise programs were conducted against both groups 12 times 6 weeks. Various tests, including Time up and go test, Forward reach test, One-leg standing with eyes open/closed and Y-Balance were conducted prior to commencing the exercise program. Wilcoxon's Signed-ranks test was executed to analyze the changes in balance of the aerobic and foam roller exercise group prior to and after the experiment, and Mann-Whitney test was executed to compare the difference between the two groups. The Y-Balance(post. medial) show statistically significant differences in the amount of change before and after exercise between the two groups, except for Timed up and go test, Forward reach test, Y-Balance(ant.), and Y-Balance(post. lateral), which did not showed statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Foam roller exercises are effective methods to enhance the balancing skills in senior women to prevent falling accidents.
