  • The use of 3D scanners has increased gradually according to increasing 3D printer applications. The precision inspection of car parts or electronic components is an important issue not only in the field of mass production, but also in small-scale production. Recently, 3D scanner equipment efficiency and recognition technology has been improved continuously. On the other hand, the spraying time to prepare 3D scanning is time-consuming and has environmental problems. Therefore, an automatic spray system has been in demand by the manufacturing industry. Automatic spray equipment was newly developed for the preparation of a 3D scanner. In this research, the automatic spray system guarantees uniform spray operation. To determine the optimal spray parameters, various spraying methods, solutions and conditions were tested and compared with the experiments. The preparation time for 3D scanning was reduced to 1/10 compared to the manual spraying time, and indicates the optimal spraying conditions through a comparison of various spray coating conditions.

  • Co-rich ferromanganese crusts (Fe-Mn crusts) distributed on the seamounts in the western Pacific are potential economic resources for cobalt, nickel, platinum, and other rare metals in the future. Regulations for prospecting and exploration of Fe-Mn crusts in the Area, which enables the process to obtain an exclusive exploration right for blocks of the fixed size, were enacted recently by the International Seabed Authority, which led to public attention on its potential for commercial development. Evaluation and selection of a mining site can be established based on abundance and grade of Fe-Mn crusts in the site as well as topography that should be smooth enough for mining efficiency. Therefore, acquisition of shipboard echo-sounding and acoustic backscatter data are prerequisite to select potential mine sites in addition to visual and sampling operations. Acoustic backscatter data can be used to locate crust-covered areas in a regional scale with the understanding of acoustic properties of crust through its correlation with visual and sampling data. KIOST had collected the topographic and geologic data to assess the resources potential for Fe-Mn crusts in the west Pacific region from 1994 to 2001. However, they could not obtain acoustic backscatter data that is crucial for the selection of prospective mining sites. Therefore, additional exploration surveys are required to carry out side scan sonar mapping combined with seafloor observation and sampling to decide the blocks for application of an exclusive exploration right.

  • As computer technology continues to evolve, the Computational Sciences utilized in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Life Sciences have been attracting more attention. In Korea, to compensate for the drawbacks in Computational Science, students and researchers have been using the EDISON platform. The EDISON platform provides a web portal service for education and research and an environment for addressing complex issues involving five fields, e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Nanophysics, Computational Chemistry, Structural Dynamics, and Computational Design. As the platform and user scale increase beyond service provision, the need for efficient operation of its currently running data management system is on the rise. In this study, we resolve the data synchronization issues between the existing EDISON platform and web portal. As the EDISON platform is integrated with the web portal, a file management service is implemented to integrate the management of user data and files, which ultimately improves the overall efficiency of file management.

  • Recently, the demand for electricity is gradually increasing due to the rapid industrial development and the improvement of living standards. In the case of Korea, which is highly dependent on fossil fuels due to such a surge in electricity demand, reduction and freezing of greenhouse gas emissions due to international environmental regulations will immediately lead to a contraction in industrial activities. Accordingly, there are many difficulties in competition with advanced countries that want to link the environment with the country's industrial production activities, and the development of alternative energy as a countermeasure is of great interest around the world. Among these new power generation methods, small-scale power generation facilities with relatively small capacity include photovoltaic generation, wind power generation, and fuel cell generation. Among them, the fuel cell attracts the most attention in consideration of continuous operation, high power generation efficiency, and long-term durability, which are important factors for practical use. Therefore, in this paper, the fuel cell power generation system was researched and constructed by designing the power conversion circuit necessary to finally obtain the AC power used in our daily life by using the DC power generated from the fuel cell as an input.

  • The high fuel flexibility of Micro Gas Turbine(MGT) has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and landfill as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We researched the influence of firing landfill gas(LFG) on the performance and operating characteristics of a micro gas turbine combined heat and power system. $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ simultaneous recovery process has been developed for field plant scale to provide an isothermal, low operating cost method for carrying out the contaminants removal in Land Fill Gas(LFG) by liquid phase catalyst for introduce into the green house for the purpose of $CO_2$ rich cultivation of the plants. Methane purification and carbon dioxide stripping by muti panel autocirculation bubble lift column reactor utilizing Fe-EDTA was conducted for evaluate optimum conditions for land fill gas. Based on inflow rate of LFG as 0.207 $m^3$/min, 5.5 kg/$cm^2$, we designed reactor system for 70% $CH_4$ and 27% $CO_2$ gas introduce into MGT system with $H_2S$ 99% removal efficiency. A green house designed for four different carbon dioxide concentration from ambient air to 1500 ppm by utilizing the exhaust gas and hot water from MGT system.

  • Recently to overcome limitations of conceptual, hydrological and physics based models for flood stage forecasting, multiple linear regression model as one of data-driven models have been widely adopted for forecasting flood streamflow(stage). The objectives of this study are to compare performance of different multiple linear regression models according to regression coefficient estimation methods and determine most effective multiple linear regression flood stage forecasting models. To do this, the time scale was determined through the autocorrelation analysis of input data and different flood stage forecasting models developed using regression coefficient estimation methods such as LS(least square), WLS(weighted least square), SPW(stepwise) was applied to flood events in Jungrang stream. To evaluate performance of established models, fours statistical indices were used, namely; Root mean square error(RMSE), Nash Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSEC), mean absolute error (MAE), adjusted coefficient of determination($R^{*2}$). The results show that the flood stage forecasting model using SPW(stepwise) parameter estimation can carry out the river flood stage prediction better in comparison with others, and the flood stage forecasting model using LS(least square) parameter estimation is also found to be slightly better than the flood stage forecasting model using WLS(weighted least square) parameter estimation.

  • Recent developments and improvements of multiple technological elements including mass spectrometry (MS) instrument, multi-dimensional chromatographic separation, and software tools processing MS data resulted in benefits of large scale proteomics analysis. However, its throughput is limited by the speed and reproducibility of the protein digestion process. In this study, we demonstrated a new method for rapid proteolytic digestion of proteins using acoustic technology. Tryptic digests of BSA prepared at various conditions by super acoustic for optimization time and intensity were analyzed by LC-MS/MS showed higher sequence coverage in compared with traditional 16 hrs digestion method. The method was applied successfully for complex proteins of a breast cancer cells at 30 min of digestion at intensity 2. This new application reduces time-consuming of sample preparation with better efficiency, even with large amount of proteins, and increases high-throughput process in sample preparation state.

  • Policy-Based Network Management (PBNM) architecture is to meet various needs of network users and to provide effective management facilities in distributed and large scale networks to network managers. In PBNM, network managers perform network management operations by stipulating a set of rules rather than control each network component. On the other hand, providing security services such as authentication, privacy of messages as well as a new flexible and extensible administration framework, SNMPv3 enables network managers to monitor and control the operation of network components more secure way than ever before. Despite of its enhanced security services, SNMPv3 has difficulties in managing distributed, large-scaled network because it does not provide centralized security management facilities. In this paper, we propose a new security model called Role-based Security Management model (RSM) with security management policy to support scalable and centralized security management for SNMP-based networks. Also, the structure and the operation of the security system as well as the efficiency analysis of RSM in terms of security management are also described.

  • Effects of grinding time and chemicals dosage in arsenic removal from contaminated paddy soil in China were investigated using lab scale attrition and froth flotation combining process. Arsenic concentration in the field soil was 76.51 mg/kg, exceeding Korean and Chinese standards, and predominant arsenic compounds fraction in sequential extraction was "residual" (over 80%). After wet sieving, soil with >2 mm and < 0.038 mm showed concentration lower than 'Warning Level' in Korea. Soil with 0.038-0.075 mm, showing the highest concentration, was discarded since it occupied minor weight fraction (10.1%). Thus soil between 0.075 and 2 mm was only used in the combining process. The highest Arsenic concentration in progeny fragments smaller than 0.038 mm reached up to 981.66 mg/kg after 5 min of attrition. Optimal dosage of collector ($C_5H_{11}OCS_2K$) and modifier ($Na_2S$ and $CuSO_4$) in froth flotation process for the selective separation of the chipped progeny particles from the parent fragments were determined both as 200 g/ton. Arsenic removal efficiency in froth flotation process was 38.47% and it was increased to 72.74% in additional flotation process, scavenging. Average arsenic concentration after overall process - wet sieving, attrition and froth flotation - was estimated to 16.45 mg/kg.

  • In this paper, performance of a hybrid sequential aerobic-anaerobic natural system was investigated. Continuous aerobic and anoxic conditions were created by alternatively placing waste stabilization pond (WSP) and wale. hyacinth pond (WHP). Two pilot-scale treatment lines were built and operated; The first consists of WSP integrated with WHP and the second of WSP connected with Dark Pond(DP), namely control system ponds which were used to examine the effects of water hyacinth on nitrification and de-nitrification. The overall performance in nitrogen was 86% reduction in WSP-WHP and 36% in WSP-control pond system. Nitrogen was mostly removed by nitrification and de-nitrification which simultaneously occurred in the same water hyacinth ponds. For the de-nitrification, benthic layer was found out to be adequate support as a carbon source. In addition, WSP-WHP system was very effective in reducing phosphorus. Overall P removal efficiency in WSP-WHP is 81%, while it is only 16% in WSP-control. difference in phosphorus reduction between those two systems is thought to be caused by the plants and probably their roots producing extra-cellular materials, but these aspects need to be further studied.
