  • Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) offers the advantages of simple and robust motor construction, high speeds and high efficiencies over a wide operating range of torque and speed, excellent controllability. However, SRM has the disadvantages of high current harmonics, and low power factor because of a capacitor filter is inserted in the power converter and inductance of SRM is high, it has pulse waveform of current. This paper deals with an energy efficient converter fed SRM system with the reduced harmonics and improved power factor and with higher efficiency. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified via experiment. We are implemented the proposed control system using 80C196KC micro-controller.

  • For long life time and high efficiency, not necessary in improvement of LED chip structure, but also improve heat radiation for decrease heat in LED chip. In this study, efficiency decline factor has been investigated in LED lamp as study heat characteristic, luminance flux and heat resistance. When LED lamp temperature was increased, about 7% loss of luminance flux. In consequence of temperature analysis, width of fin was the most important factor of heat radiation. As a result, secure the enough heat path is very important factor of LED lamp design.

Organic Photovoltaic Devices on $HNO_3$-Treated Multilayer Graphene Electrodes

  • We reported on the characteristics of organic solar cells (OSCs) fabricated on $HNO_3$-treated multilayer graphene (MLG) transparent electrodes. MLG electrodes were prepared using a chemical vapor deposition and a multi-transfer process. Compared to organic solar cells (OSCs) on the ITO electrodes had a fill factor of 65.97%, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.364%, OSCs on the MLG (three-layer graphene) electrodes with sheet resistance of $274{\pm}1{\Omega}$/square and transparency of 92.1% had a fill factor of 43.46%, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.019%. However, OSCs on the HNO3-treated MLG electrodes with lower sheet resistance of $119{\pm}1{\Omega}$/square had a fill factor of 57.54%, and a PCE of 2.861%. The results would provide a promising method to improve the performance of large-area OSCs based on MLG electrodes.

  • ZSM-5 zeolite composite membranes have been synthesized from a silica sol solution containing TPABr as an organic template by the dip-coating and the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment techniques. The CO2 separation efficiency of synthesized composite membranes was also investigated. The permeation mechanism of CO2 through ZSM-5 membranses was the surface diffusion, and that of N2, O2, and He gases was Knudsen diffusion or activated diffusion depending on the synthetic method of membranes and the measurement temperature. The CO2/N2 separation factor of the membrane prepared by the dip-coating hydrothermal treatment was 2.5 at about 12$0^{\circ}C$, while the ZSM-5 composite membrane synthesized by the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment technique showed the CO2/N2 separation factor of 9.0 at room temperature higher than that ever reported in the literature.

Novel Zero-Voltage-Switching Bridgeless PFC Converter

  • In this paper, a new zero-voltage-switching, high power-factor, bridgeless rectifier is introduced. In this topology, an auxiliary circuit provides soft switching for all of the power semiconductor devices. Thus the switching losses are reduced and the highest efficiency can be achieved. The proposed converter has been analyzed and a design procedure has been introduced. The control circuit for the converter has also been developed. Based on the given approach, a 250 W, 400 Vdc prototype converters has been designed at 100 kHz for universal input voltage (90-264 Vrms) applications. A maximum efficiency of 94.6% and a power factor correction over 0.99 has been achieved. The simulation and experimental results confirm the design procedure and highlight the advantages of the proposed topology.

  • This paper studied succinic acid recovery from organic acid mixture by using mono-polar membrane electrodialysis. Current efficiency, solute recovery efficiency, energy consumption, and separation factor were measured at various pHs and concentration ratios. The separation factor of succinic acid could be interpreted in terms of ionization degree, molecular weight, ionic conductance, average charge, and initial feed composition.

  • This study is concerned with effects of impeller blade thickness on performance of a turbo blower. This turbo blower is developed as an air supply system in 250 kW MCFC system. The turbo blower consists of an impeller, two vaneless diffusers, a vaned diffuser and a volute. The three dimensional, steady state numerical analysis is simultaneously conducted for the impeller, diffuser and volute to investigate the performance of total system. To consider the non-uniform condition in volute inlet due to volute tongue, full diffuser passages are included in the calculation. The results of numerical analysis are validated with experimental results of thin blade thickness. Total pressure ratio, efficiency, slip factor and blade loading are compared in two cases. The slip factor is different in two cases and the comparison of two cases shows a good performance in thin blade thickness in all aspects.

  • In this paper a soft switching ZVT power factor converter using active snubbers is designed to improve efficiency and reduce voltage spike and parastic ringing. The main switch achieves ZVT and the auxiliary switch performs with ZCS. A 2KW soft switching ZVT converter is designed with switching frequency 100kHz, output voltage 400VDC. Then the designed system is realized and experimental results shows that the measured efficiency and power factor were over $97.45\%$ and 0.997 respectively with an input current THD less than $3\%$.

Treatment Characteristics of Biological Aerated Filter Process Using the Upflow and Downflow System (상향류 및 하향류 생물막여과공정의 처리특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the test results of biological aerated filtration(BAF) process to replace activated sludge process by enhancing treated effluent quality and reducing the costs. In BAF process both BOD and SS compounds in wastewater are degraded and removed by biological reaction and filtration. Upflow BAF with expanded polypropylene media and downflow BAF with ceramic media were used to investigate the effects of hydraulic and organic loads on effluent quality. As a result, in BAF processes which has different media, upflow BAF reactor shows 5% higher efficiency than downflow BAF and this phenomena caused by backwashing methods and operational conditions. The results of influence factors analyzed by Factor Analysis Method in BOD and SS treatment efficiency are the size of media, hight of media bed and type of media. The quantitative effects of media size are 5.73% in TBOD, 5.78% in SBOD and 7.65% in TSS, so we confirmed the main factor is media size.

  • Biomimetc is a new domain of learning that proposes a solution getting clues from nature. There seems to be a sign of this phenomenon in fields of Renewable Energy. Foe example, Wind power was imitate the whale's fin that was improve efficiency of generating energy. This study focused on the photovoltaic generation as the instance of applying biomimetic. Efficiency is the most important factor in field of Photovoltaic generation. When given solar cell taking the sun light, most important fields of the study are absorb more light and increase the quantity of generation. For improving efficiency, the solar cell were builded up textures of taking a pyramid form, such a surface structure taking a role for remaining the light. This effects do the role as increasing absorbing efficiency. Such phenomenon calls Light Trapping, locking up the light on the surface of solar cell for a long time. Light is a vital factor to plants in the nature. Plants grow up through the photosynthesis that absorbing light for growth and propagation. So, plants make a effort how can absorb more the light in poor surroundings. This study set up a goal that imitates the minute surface structure of plants and applies to the existing solar cells's surface structure, so it can improve the efficiency of absorbing light. We used Light Tools software analyzing geometrical optics to analyze efficiency about new designed textures on the computer. We made a comparison between existing textures and new designed textures. Consequently, new designed textures were advanced efficiency, absorbing rates of light increasing about 7 percent. In comparison with existing and new textures, advancing about 20 percent in the efficient aspect.
