  • The purpose of this study was to identify consumption behaviors among children and to examine the differences according to sociodemographic characteristics, factors related to allowance, and parents' consumer socialization function perceived by children. The data were collected from 291 elementary school students in Busan. The results of this study were as follows. First, regarding parents' consumer socialization function perceived by children, the level of child's participation and influence in consumption decision-making was the highest, whereas the level of parent-child communication about consumption was the lowest. Second, consumption behaviors among children were identified into 5 groups: impulsive consumption group, rational allowance management group, friend-dependent purchase group, planned purchase group, and effective goods management group. There were significant difference among them according to child's sex, allowance amount, allowance frequency, parents' guidance about allowance usage, parents' check after allowance usage, and 3 categories of parents' consumer socialization function perceived by children. These results imply that consumer education for parents should be developed and activated to improve consumer socialization function of parents.

  • Purpose: This study describes the ecological variables effect on child abuse potential and the results from a prevention program for parents with disabled children aiming at decreasing child abuse potential. Method: Data was collected from 30 parents with disabled preschoolers attending an early education center in a community. The program consisted of handouts, small group lectures, support group meetings on understanding the disabled child-parents relationship, communication skill improvement, non-punitive discipline techniques, and influences of child abuse. A non equivalent pre-post test design was employed. Result: Ecological variables, and parenting self-efficacy, had a significant effect on child abuse potential in parents with a disabled child. By regression parenting self-efficacy showed(27.1 %) child abuse potential. Both parenting self-efficacy and beliefs in corporal punishment directly related to (52.0%) child abuse potential in parents. The program was effective inbringing some positive changes on pareting self-efficacy beliefs in corporal punishment, and child abuse potential toward disabled children. However, marital discord was not significantly effected. Conclusion: Child abuse prevention programs should decrease thechild abuse potential in parents. Thus I recommend a child abuse prevention program development; for parents with disabled adolescents, and teachers in disabled child education.

G1 included 5 children with cochlear implant and their mothers who joined the parents-centered program. G2 consisted of 5 children with cochlear implant and their mothers did not participate in the program. To evaluate their speech and language abilities, examination instruments(Preschool Language Scale, and Language Comprehension and Cognition Test) were analyzed. Performances of pre- and post-treatment were analysed by ANOVA procedure. The results were as follows: There were significant differences of speech and language performances between pre- and post-treatment in G1. But there were no significant differences in G2(therapists centered program). G1 showed better performances in language comprehension than G2. • The purpose of this study was to develop an educational app that informs parents of elementary students with correct information on pesticide residue based on their awareness and information needs on pesticide residue. A survey was conducted from 918 parents living in 8 different districts of Korea. The results of the survey indicated that a majority of parents felt uncomfortable with pesticide residue and wanted to have the proper information regarding it. Based on the above results, an app named 'Perfect Conquest of Pesticide Residue' consisting of 5 main menus of 'Pesticide residue, Is it safe?', 'Safe management of pesticide residue', 'Perfect removal of pesticide residue on fruits and vegetables through washing', 'Shopping without anxiety', 'Playground' and their own sub-menus was developed. When the app was applied to 30 parents using smart phones, a majority of them were satisfied with the contents of detailed information and fun activities. Therefore, this app could be utilized as an effective educational tool for the parents of elementary students by allowing them to have proper awareness on pesticide residue. Furthermore, more apps could be developed on other food risk factors to promote safe dietary life.
