  • This study explored the experiences and difficulties of science teachers who participated in overseas educational voluntary activities. Seven science teachers who had visited Timor-Leste participated in the study. All collected data including the teacher interview were analyzed. As a result, teachers visited Timor-Leste to fulfill social roles and to meet the expectations of others. After returning from Timor-Leste, the teachers regained their passion for teaching and gained confidence in taking on new challenges. Teachers had difficulties in conducting seminars due to the unstable social situation and lack of awareness of Timor-Leste teachers, and experienced communication limitations due to language barriers. Nevertheless, teachers cooperate with local priest to improve these limitations. In addition, teachers supplemented the limitations caused by the non-establishment of the curriculum through the evaluation meeting. In order to improve teaching expertise and promote active participation of Timor-Leste teachers, the seminar method was modified. The experience of volunteering in Timor-Leste made teachers think about the importance of cooperation and the necessity of education. Based on the above results, we discussed ways to activate voluntary service.

  • Recently, as voluntary activity has become more widespread, there have been some voluntary activity movements in the provision of library services for people with disabilities. This study aimed to develop a model on voluntary activity in library services for disabled people in public libraries. Survey data collected through three data collection methods showed that volunteer activities in public library services for the disabled were very poor, and recommended the training of library staff and volunteers serving disabled people, the management of educational programs for librarians about the disabled and the dissemination of standardized manuals. From the results of the survey, a voluntary activity model, based on three factors, the aims of library services, the types of the disabilities, and volunteer services including specific sub areas of services, was developed. Finally, this voluntary activity model will contribute to the theory development of library services for the disabled

The results are as follows: The number of participants in voluntary activities was relatively small. The main reasons for negative attitudes toward voluntary activities were significantly different according to sex, educational level, marital status, health status, economic level, religion, and life satisfaction. By using a cluster analysis, the elderly could be divided into four groups. Among them, a group with positive attitudes participating in volunteer activities was more likely to include males or those educated, healthy, and affluent. • Korea received foreign aid for science education in 1960-70, now, Korea is one of the most advanced countries in the world and provides not only official development assistance through government grants or ODA but also private aids through voluntary services to less developed countries. Korean science teachers have been offering voluntary services in Timor-Leste since 2004, starting on personal level and now by through the Korean Science Teachers Association. This study aims to describe the voluntary activity by Korean science teachers in Timor-Leste, to analyze the conflict points revealed in the activity, and to search the meaning of the activity in respect of science education. This study used methods like document analysis, interview of the participants, participants' observation, a case study, and member check. This activity has involved various conflicts in finance, curriculum, pedagogy, educational instrument, environment, language, chronological issues, and perceptions. This activity was not a one-sided offer of aid, but an opportunity for personal development and self-reflection, and a basis for discussion on science education. There are many difficulties in this work, which is carried out at the teachers' own expense. More concern should be paid on this volunteer service from educational institutions and academic world.

  • School activities which are opened after-school or during a vacation have been social issues as our society is nuclearized and both parents are working, so that elementary school students and middle school students are less taken care of and less concerned by their parents. It is regrettable that students are spending too much time on private academies in the situation where they cannot help but staying alone after school and where frantic fever of private education pervades their lives. For the sake of those students, the Ministry of Education announced, "Each school can open its after-school programs or vacation programs based on students and their parents' demands making it a rule of a student's voluntary participation. After school programs for elementary and middle school students are operated by local communities providing extra courses or programs in addition to regular classes. Those programs are paid by participants or supported by financial aids in order to decrease parents' burdens of costs of private education and to reduce educational gaps between rich and poor children or between the regions. After school programs are either curricular or non-curricular educational activities with students' voluntary participation, and the programs are meant to supplement and strengthen the role of public school education. Non-curricular courses that consist of various programs, in particular, are receiving good reputations by students and parents. Therefore, this study develops and operates "children's making D.I.Y. furniture" program that is one of non-curricular courses and an activity-oriented art program for children to improve their designing creativity and to help them experience their future jobs in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the program using survey and assessment methods and to find out a developmental direction focused on future-oriented and specialized educational programs for children.

  • The study aims at exploring a general trend of psychological well-being (PWB) of elderly volunteers and analyzing the variables which give effects on their PWB. The subjects were two hundred men and women over 60 years old currently participating in voluntary service. The data collected from interviewing were analyzed by descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results are: First, PWB of the elderly is higher than the average score of PWB. Second, the elderly's generativity is positively related to PWB. Family support such as an emotional and instrumental support was also positively related to PWB. Third, the variables effecting on PWB of elderly volunteers were education level, participation frequency, generativity level, and an instrumental support of their family members on it. The lower their educational level was, the more frequently they participated in voluntary activity, the higher their generativity level was, and the more support given from their family, the higher PWB scores they showed.

  • In this paper, the necessity of independent operation of information curriculum was suggested by analyzing the changes and problems of elementary school information curriculum. Also, a plan was suggested to organize autonomous subjects for autonomous activities so that information education can be independently operated in elementary schools. Autonomous activity is an extension of the concept of creative experience activities, and refers to an educational activity time in which autonomous courses or various educational activities can be freely operated by reflecting the needs of students and parents or the characteristics of the school. It means a subject that you choose to run or do not have to choose. In the case of running an independent curriculum using the discretionary time of the principal, such as voluntary activities, the "safe life" of the 1st and 2nd graders in the 2015 elementary school curriculum and the 7th junior high school curriculum operate elective courses in subject discretionary activities. One can be found. Therefore, if information education in elementary schools can be organized and operated as autonomous subjects, at least students who want to learn artificial intelligence, coding, and big data will have an opportunity to learn in public education.
