A Python-based educational software tool for visualizing bioinformatics alignment algorithms

  • Bioinformatics education can be defined as the teaching and learning of how to use software tools, along with mathematical and statistical analysis, to solve biological problems. Although many resources are available, most students still struggle to understand even the simplest sequence alignment algorithms. Applying visualizations to these topics benefits both lecturers and students. Unfortunately, educational software for visualizing step-by-step processes in the user experience of sequence alignment algorithms is rare. In this article, an educational visualization tool for biological sequence alignment is presented, and the source code is released in order to encourage the collaborative power of open-source software, with the expectation of further contributions from the community in the future. Two different modules are integrated to enable a student to investigate the characteristics of alignment algorithms.

  • This paper describes about the development of the 3 Dimensional interactive physics experiment system using virtual reality technologies. Until now, most of the computer aided education systems have adopted one-sided learning way which only shows or tells. It excludes students during learning processes. To solve the problems of the one-sided learning way and to improve the educational productivity, the 3 Dimensional interactive physics experiment system is developed. The 3 Dimensional interactive physics experiment system introduced in this paper provides a new learning motivation for students and improves their educational effects through the 3 Dimensional graphics, realtime action, and realistic interactive experiment.

농촌지역 교육공동체의 지속가능성 탐색 (Exploring of the Sustainability for the Educational Community in Rural Area)

  • This study explores the background and the processes underpinning the educational reform movement based on local community. This educational community initiated the alternative education reform movement, which is referred to as the small school movement. A qualitative case study was implemented by collecting data from thirty articles, three focused interviews. This study drew out three key factors as the operation of educational community in regional area. First, it claimed a total of 30 papers related to the educational community for content analysis. Second, key words were derived in the local educational community context. They developed their own alternative educational programs, such as self-supportive meeting, season carnivals, community revitalization activities, and so on. Their focus was on finding out and establishing better educational relationships among the concerned communities. Third, the community continues to reinforce the internal rules and climate through meta-education, a process, in which education educates itself. As a result, they could enjoy substantial success in a visible educational community. This small school revival movement later grew into the new school movement. Furthermore, a variety of teachers, parents groups, and interested scholars have been engaged in the community movement through professional networking. This study suggests that the key innovator-initiated movement, which involves education reform, upgraded Korean education, and improved their own expertise and autonomy, is expected to be the first step to solve the current Korean educational problems by the educational community.

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning are used in many parts of our daily lives, but the basic processes and concepts are barely exposed to most people. Understanding these basic concepts is becoming increasingly important as kids don't have the opportunity to explore AI processes and improve their understanding of basic machine learning concepts and their essential components. Machine learning educational tools can help children easily understand artificial intelligence and machine learning. In this paper, we examine machine learning education tools and compare their features.

글로벌 소싱 관련 직무 이해를 통한 의류학 교과내용 제안 (Suggesting the Curriculum Contents of Clothing and Textiles by Understanding Jobs related to Global Sourcing)

  • Global sourcing refers to activities performed to acquire materials, finished products and apparel production all around the world. The purposes of the study were to examine basic job requirements and primary skills of sales team and supporting team in global sourcing companies, to investigate educational programs provided by the companies or other educational institutions, and to examine courses to be newly established in the curriculum of clothing and textile majors. The results of the study found that the ability to use English and communication skills were important to perform their tasks (sales and supporting teams). The results revealed that fabric and textile, sewing, and apparel production process were the most frequently taken educational programs provided by global sourcing companies and English classes were the most frequently taken educational programs in the other educational institutions. The results also found that the clothing and textile curriculum need to add classes that help sales and supporting teams perform global sourcing tasks, such as fashion practical English, fabric and textile, apparel production processes, textile and apparel trades, fiber and fabric testing, and presentation skills. The study suggested educational directions for developing curriculum contents of clothing and textiles and cultivating professionals in the global sourcing industries.

초등학교 5학년 과학영재와 일반 학생들의 포화 용액 개념에 대한 비유 만들기 과정의 유형과 비유 만들기에 대한 인식 (The Types of Analogy Generation Processes and the Perceptions of Analogy Generation on Saturated Solution of Fifth Grade Scientifically-gifted and General Elementary Students)

  • In this study, we investigated and compared the types of analogy generation processes and the perceptions of analogy generation on saturated solution of fifth grade scientifically-gifted and general elementary students. After the instruction of self-generating analogies on 'saturated solution' concept for two classes, 12 scientifically-gifted and 8 general elementary students were interviewed to explore their analogy generation processes and the perceptions of the abilities required in the processes, the conditions of good analogies, and the advantages/disadvantages of analogy generation. The results revealed that their analogy generation processes were classified into three types. The scientifically-gifted students generated the analogies in more systematic and efficient ways and had better understanding of the important parts in the processes than the general elementary students. They also suggested more concrete and various ideas about the conditions of good analogies. Many scientifically-gifted and general elementary students thought that analogy generation would have positive influences on the developments of the cognitive aspects such as various higher-level thinking abilities and understanding of science concepts as well as the affective aspects such as science learning motivation and interest. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

수학 영재 학생들의 발견과 증명에 대한 연구 (Analysing the Processes of Discovery and Proof of the Mathematically Gifted Students)

  • 본 연구는 중학교 2학년 수학 영재 학생들(14세)에게 학생 스스로의 수학적 발견과 증명 경험을 제공하는 동시에, 수학 영재 학생들의 수학적 발견과 증명 과정을 분석하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서 36명의 수학 영재 학생들의 다면체의 면각의 합에 대한 수학적 발견과 증명 과정을 범주화한 결과, 영재 학생들의 수학적 발견과 증명 과정은 [코드 C]와 [코드 G]로 범주화되었다. [코드 C]의 학생들은 다면체의 여러 사례를 조사하면서, 그리고 [코드 G]의 학생들은 다면체의 대표적 예나 일반적 예를 숙고하면서 수학적 발견과 증명을 시도하였다. 또한, 본 연구에 참여한 36명의 영재 학생들 중에서 13명(36.1%)은 다면체의 면각의 합에 대한 수학적 성질을 발견하지 못했으며, 7명(19.4%)은 다면체의 면각의 합에 대한 수학적 성질은 발견하였지만 증명에는 성공하지 못했으며, 16명(44.4%)은 수학적 성질을 발견하고 증명에 성공한 것으로 확인되었다. 한편, 다면체의 면각의 합에 대한 수학적 성질을 발견하고 증명한 학생들과 그렇지 못한 학생들 사이의 차이점은 수학적 사고 방법에서 기인하는 것으로 논의되었다.

증강 현실을 이용한 자동차 공학 교육 시스템 개발 (Automotive Engineering Educational System Development Using Augmented Reality)

  • In or automotive engineering education is introduced. Main objective of the system is teaching disassemble/assemble procedure of automatic transmission of a vehicle to students, who study automotive engineering. System includes vehicle transmission, set of tools and mechanical facilities, two video cameras, computer with developed software, HMD glasses and two LCD screens. Developed software gives instructions on assembling and disassembling processes of real vehicle transmission with the help of augmenting virtual reality objects on the video stream. Overlaying of 3D instructions on the technological workspace can be used as an interactive educational material. In disassembling process, mechanical parts which should be disassembled are augmented on video stream from video cameras. Same is done for assembling process. Animation and other visual effects are applied for better indication of the current assembling/disassembling instruction. During learning and training, student can see what parts of vehicle transmission and in which order should be assembled or disassembled. Required tools and technological operations are displayed to a student with the help of augmented reality, as well. As a result, the system guides a student step-by-step through an assembly/disassembly sequence. During educational process a student has an opportunity to return back to any previous instruction if it is necessary. Developed augmented reality system makes educational process more interesting and intuitive. Using of augmented reality system for engineering education in automotive technology makes learning process easier and financially more effective.

2년제 대학 안경광학과 교육목표와 교육과정 분석 (The Analysis of a Educational Objectives and a Curriculum of The Department of Ophthalmic Optics Departments of Two-Year Colleges)

  • 본 연구는 전국 2년제 7개 대학 안경광학과의 교육목표 서술 내용과 개설된 교육과정의 교과목을 교양, 전공 필수, 전공 전공 선택 등으로 분류하여 조사 분석하였다. 교육목표는 7개 대학 모두 2년제 대학 교육 목적에 맞는 전문 직업인 양성이었으며, 목표 서술 내용은 대학 교육을 통해 달성 가능한 내용으로 조사되었다. 교육과정은 7개 대학 모두 안경사 국가 면허 시험 과목으로 개설되어 있으나, 검안학 교과목의 굴절검사, 안기능검사와 교양교과목의 직업의식, 조직 내 리더십, 마케팅 관련 교과목의 편성이 더 요구되고, 임상 현장실습 교육은 전문직업인이 되기 위한 경험으로 모든 대학은 교과목으로 개설할 필요성이 있다.

  • 교육망의 보안 인프라는 통합관리시스템을 기준으로 다양한 정보보호시스템의 보안 이벤트를 수집하고 분석을 통하여 위협을 관리하고 대응한다. 이러한 체계는 관리자에게 유용하고 자세한 정보를 제공하지만, 다양한 위협 상황과 동시 다발적인 위협에 대해서 효과적인 대응 프로세스와 관리체계를 제공하지 못하고 있는 문제점을 많이 가진 교육망에 대한 해결방안으로 관리자에게 다양하고 세부적인 정보 제공보다는 관리자가 초기 위협에 신속하게 대응할 수 있도록 관리기술과 다양한 보안 이벤트들의 처리 스케줄링을 통해서 통합보안관리가 가능하도록 보안 에이전트를 제안 개발하였다.
