Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate functional disability for the elderly in rural Korea and to identify influencing factors of functional disability. Methods : The data were collected for 76 community-dwelling elderly in rural area and above 65 years. We assessed cognitive function, functional disability, depression using LACLS, WHODAS 2.0, SGDS-K. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for general characteristics of subjects, Spearman's correlation among LACLS, SGDS-K, WHODAS 2.0, age, educational levels. And multiple regression was used to find influencing factors of functional disability. Results : As a result of this study, we identified that WHODAS 2.0 total score was 50.59, summary score was 9.94 and functional disability of the elderly in rural area is in the 70th percentile. The highest level of disability occurred in areas related to 'life activities (household)', 'participation in society' and the lowest level of disability occured in areas of 'self-care', 'getting along with people'. Functional disability was significantly correlated with age (r=.398), cognitive function (r=-.547), depression (r=-.563) but not educational levels (r=-.215). Finally, we confirmed that depression (𝛽=.371), cognitive function (𝛽=-.263), widowed status (𝛽=.303), age (𝛽=.272), non-participation of community program (𝛽=.165) was significantly influencing factors of functional disability and the explanatory power of these factors was 52.80 %. Conclusion : This study revealed important factors of functional disability. Therefore, we need to consider these factors when we developed program related to health for the elderly (aged > 65 years) in rural Korea. Further, we need to standardize WHODAS 2.0 in order to enhance its applicability in clinical practices.
This study aimed to examine the effects of upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors, academic major satisfaction, and job-seeking anxiety on university students' happiness along with the grade levels(the lower and upper grades). The participants were 581 university students in Seoul, Korea. Upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors (related to schoolwork and job-seeking) had negative effects on academic major satisfaction. Upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors related to job-seeking had positive effects on job-seeking anxiety. Academic major satisfaction decreased job-seeking anxiety, and promoted happiness. Job-seeking anxiety had negative effects on happiness. In the path model between variables, the differences according to the grade were found in the influence of upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors related to schoolwork on major satisfaction and in the influence of job-seeking anxiety on happiness. These results are expected to help select interventions that would foster happiness among university students.
Cell migration is essential for diverse cellular processes including wound healing, immune response, development, and cancer metastasis. Pi3-kinase (PI3K) is a key regulator for actin cytoskeleton and phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol (4,5)-diphosphate (PIP2) to phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate (PIP3). High levels of PIP3 by PI3Ks are associated with increased levels of F-actin and pseudopod extension at the leading edge of migrating cells such as neutrophils and Dictyostelium. LY294002 is a well-known PI3K specific inhibitor. Here, we investigated the effect of LY294002 on cell migration. First, we evaluated the appropriate concentration of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for using as a solvent for LY294002. DMSO is a highly polar organic reagent and one of the most common solvent for organic and inorganic chemicals. Cell morphology and cell migration were unaffected at the concentrations less than 0.1 % DMSO. Therefore, stock solution of LY294002 was prepared so that the final concentration of DMSO was 0.1 % or less when treated. When cells were treated with LY294002, cell migration was increased in a concentration-dependent manner. The maximum speed was detected in the presence of 30 µM LY294002. These results suggest that PI3Ks play a inhibitory role in regulating cell migration in our experimental conditions.
Purpose: This study was attempted to identify the awareness of paramedic students to patients with mental and behavioral disorders and suggest its improvement measures. Methods: Data were collected from the paramedic students after consent to this study through online. The period of data collection was from May 18 to August 1, 2022 and 120 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS statistics 28.0. Results: The level of prejudice of subjects showed 2.73 points and their level of discrimination showed 2.52 points. There was statistically significant difference according to gender, grade, experience of field practice, reason for major selection etc. in prejudice and discrimination levels. There was statistically significant difference according to contact experience to patients, contact place, taking subjects etc. in prejudice and discrimination levels. The high correlation showed between total prejudice and discrimination (r=.853, p<.001). The improvement measures of an awareness about patients were positive role of mass media, better educational contents etc. Conclusion: Paramedic students need to treat patients with mental and behavioral disorders without prejudice and discrimination. Therefore, it needed to develop and apply the various educational programs for paramedic students to be able to improve an awareness about patients with positive role of mass media about them.

This study focuses on the evaluation on the satisfaction of school education system based on perception levels of students corresponding to school locations. Twenty eight variables concerning with school education system were selected based on literature review and six factors such as reliability, sympathy, student supporting system, teachers' ability, principal physical environments, secondary physical environments were extracted by factor analysis. Satisfaction evaluation was performed by SERVPERP model based on perception level, and differences among respondents as well as school locations were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. The results said there is no difference on teachers' ability factors. Especially, perception levels of students in rural area were lower than those in urban area except teachers' ability and secondary physical environments factors. Most respondents dissatisfy the school education system and they have no intention to recommend their school facilities (hardware) as well as educational programs (software) to other students in different schools.
With the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, discussions on the use of artificial intelligence are actively taking place in many fields, and various policies for nurturing artificial intelligence talents are being promoted in the field of education. In this study, we propose a robot programming framework using artificial intelligence technology, and based on this, we use Python, which is used frequently in the machine learning field, and an educational robot that is highly utilized in the field of education to provide artificial intelligence. (AI) education program was proposed. The level of autonomous driving (levels 0-5) suggested by the International Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is simplified to four levels, and based on this, the camera attached to the robot recognizes and detects lines (objects). The goal was to make a line detector that can move by itself. The developed program is not a standardized form of solving a given problem by simply using a specific programming language, but has the experience of defining complex and unstructured problems in life autonomously and solving them based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It is meaningful.
Importance: Rabies is a neglected tropical viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. Objective: This study assessed the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the Shone Ttown community toward rabies. Methods: A survey-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Shone town, Ethiopia, from November 2022 to April 2023. Woreda was selected purposefully, while Kebeles and the study populations were selected by simple random sampling. Four hundred and sixteen respondents were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. Results: All respondents had heard about rabies from different sources, with the majority hearing from informal sources (62%). Approximately 51.9%, 0.7%, and 47.4% of individuals were aware of saliva contact, rabid animal bites, and both as means of transmission, respectively. The survey showed that 64.4% of participants knew the 100% fatal nature of rabies once the clinical signs developed, and 35.6% did not. Approximately 51.4% of respondents agreed that killing stray dogs was an effective method for rabies prevention. In this study, 72.6% of the respondents had contact with pets, and 36.8% of the interviewees had vaccinated their dogs. Only the educational level (p = 0.03) was associated with knowledge of the transmission route. Age (p = 0.04) and educational level (p = 0.01) had a statistically significant association with knowledge of the risk of not vaccinating dogs. Conclusions and Relevance: A lack of formal education in the communities, low levels of education, and the majority of respondents acquiring their knowledge from unofficial sources are important contributors to the low levels of awareness.

Introduction: There is a growing global interest in the issue of precarious employment. We aimed to analyze the characteristics and socio-demographic distribution of precarious employment using a summative score approach. Methods: To operationalize precarious employment, we utilized data from the Korean Working Conditions Survey and focused on three distinct dimensions: employment insecurity, income inadequacy, and a lack of rights and protections. By constructing a summative scale ranging from -16 to 2, with lower scores indicating higher precariousness, we measured employment precariousness among Korean wage workers. To compare employment precariousness according to survey participant characteristics, we employed the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test. Results: We analyzed a weighted number of 38,432 workers. The overall sample showed a median (Q1, Q3) summative scale score of -3 (-6, -1). The median summative score was lower for women compared to men (men: -2; women: -5; p < 0.001), as well as for young or older workers compared to middle-aged workers (young: -4; middle-aged: -2; older: -5; p < 0.001). Similarly, workers with lower educational levels (middle school or below: -8; high school: -5; college or above: -2; p < 0.001) and non-white collar workers (blue collar: -5; service/sales worker: -6; white collar: -2; p < 0.001) experienced higher levels of employment precariousness. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that certain vulnerable groups, such as women, young or older adults, workers with low educational attainment, and caregiving or low-skilled elementary workers, are disproportionately exposed to high employment precariousness. Active policy interventions are needed to improve the employment quality of vulnerable groups.

This study investigates how students perceive landscape design studio classes and provides basic data to set guidelines for future student-oriented pedagogical strategies in landscape architectural design education. This study is based on the premise that the current dominant educational method, which is based on positivism, should shift to a constructivist approach, which allows students to question objective and absolute truths and restructure knowledge based on their own experiences. Unlike lecture-oriented classes, studio education relies heavily on the perceptions, attitudes, and capabilities of individual students because the nature of the class asks each student to find solutions to given project problems in creative and visual ways. Therefore, it is important to understand the psychological state of students during these classes in order to set alternative criteria for design studio education. This study contains three parts. The first part reviews theoretical discourses to understand the demands for a student-oriented educational paradigm shift and the nature of the design studio at many levels. The second part analyzes how students perceive design studio classes in terms of their satisfaction and stress levels and how studio classes affect their decision making regarding future careers. The stress levels accompanying the design process are also investigated, based on a survey of undergraduate students who are enrolled in the landscape architecture programs of four universities in Korea. According to the findings, design studio classes play a specific role in students' decision making about their future careers. Almost half of students turn out to be dissatisfied with their design education, and half of students suffer from high stress levels caused by studio classes, especially in the early phases of the design process. The findings suggest that instructors should give more attention to discovering ways to help students initiate the design process and bridge ideas and forms, provide clear guidelines for evaluation of students' abilities, and develop a more holistic approach in design studio classes that is based on individual problem-solving processes.

This paper detailed the content and methods of the instructional activities of teacher-librarians in Korea. Using Kuhlthau's levels of education model as a theoretical framework, the study analyzed its data on the direct instructional activities the Korean teacher-librarians reported. The participants included four researchers in school libraries as well as the high school teacher-librarians in Seoul. Written survey were conducted for researchers and teacher-librarians respectively. The results show that there exists a gap between the theoretical emphasis on instructional activities of teacher-librarians and the practice of teacher -librarians in schools, and that the level of instructional activities has not yet advanced fully to the high levels of instructional activities. Future efforts should be made on developing legal as well as educational systems to support advancing the instructional levels of teacher-librarians. Integrating information literacy curricula into the national-level curriculum for public education could be a good example.
