  • In this paper we consider an application of the method of electromagnetic (EM) migration to the interpretation of a typical marine controlled-source (MCSEM) survey consisting of a set of sea-bottom receivers and a moving electrical bipole transmitter. Three-dimensional interpretation of MCSEM data is a very challenging problem because of the enormous number of computations required in the case of the multi-transmitter and multi-receiver data acquisition systems used in these surveys. At the same time, we demonstrate that the MCSEM surveys with their dense system of transmitters and receivers are extremely well suited for application of the migration method. In order to speed up the computation of the migration field, we apply a fast form of integral equation (IE) solution based on the multigrid quasi-linear (MGQL) approximation which we have developed. The principles of migration imaging formulated in this paper are tested on a typical model of a sea-bottom petroleum reservoir.

  • Korea and China have had close relations not only geographically but also ideally and culturally throughout history. Regarding their lifestyles on housing patterns, however, Koreans had a sedentary way of life, usually sitting on the floor while Chinese had a standing lifestyle, sitting on a chair. This paper tries to have a comparative analysis on similarities and distinctions of two countries' traditional furniture that had complied with each lifestyle. This paper also aims to explore the similarities and distinctions of the form and function of the traditional furniture of the two countries and then to put results of this paper in design and plan of modern furniture and housing in our times. The study can be summarized as follows. Even if, cultural and historical relationships of two countries, there is a different of traditional furniture's forms and types. The major differences are as following : Korean furniture is predominantly on the floor level with storing furniture while Chinese one is intermixed with seat-level and floor level styles. These characters seem to be derived from their own housing and life style. In Ming and Qing period China, Their developed in which intermediate people and building. But, in Korea their housing style had floating floor against wet earth, which finished woods, Ondol. Because of these finishing, the Korean traditional furniture was developed into a good form and a suitable dimension for moving. These differences in furnishing style seemed to well reflect building and housing style of each country. And Image map and positioning map can show the differences in a whole aspect.

  • This study explores the beneficial methodology to increase cultural values of urban style Hanok, Korean traditional residence. Based on the literary geographical approach, this study defines the physical identities of special Bukchon Hanok area in Seoul. The explored physical identities are to provide basic fundamentals for supplying and maintaining new Hanok buildings, including how to preserve and restore the traditional Hanok areas. They are also to develop various Hanok related cultural products and to encourage Hanok popularization. In addition, this study is to add more the humane values and significances to the previous relevant researches. With these perspectives and through above mentioned methodology, the study draws the physical identities of Bukchon Hanok area and meanings as belows: The first one is the collective identity. Bukchon Hanok area is mainly composed of organic spaces with its collective scenary. Narrow alleys and curved lanes created by collective gaps between Hanok buildings, provide residents and visitors with abundant choices of moving path. The second one is the formal identity. Bukchon Hanok maintain their unique layout patterns. The basic units of Chae are combined in specific ways such as 'ㄱ', 'ㄷ', 'ㅁ' types and result typical formal expression of the area. The third one is grounding identity which represent the relationship between the earth and every-day living space. Each Chaes of house always surround Madang, Korean traditional court yard with rare vegetation. And the connection to the ground is transferred to the memories of its dwellers. Lastly, the current Hanok still preserve similar characteristics of past time Hanok such as materials, structure and styles by using unique building technics and exposing traditional ornamenting styles.

  • The topography of the sea floor and textural characteristics of surface sediments are documented in areas off sectors 1,2, and 4 of the Saemangeum dyke and inside the dyke. These were investigated during the years 2002 to 2005, when the dyke construction almost came to an end, and were compared with natural topographic analogs before the dyke construction from the maritime maps of 1982 and 1994. Along and across the dyke are a number of erosional troughs formed by intensified currents during the dyke construction. The sea floor off sector 4 has undergone gradual accumulation of sands moving from the north by currents varying in direction from normal to parallel to the dyke. This is in a strong contrast with a slight erosional environment prevailing over the sea floor before dyke construction. off sectors 1 and 2, a topography with an alterative pattern of erosional troughs and sand shoals develops normal to the dyke. Eroded materials from the troughs seem to have added to the sand shoals. As a result, the troughs, former natural tidal channels, have become increasingly deeper, whereas the sand shoals have become somewhat shallower. The sea floor inside the dyke has also been remarkably shallower with expanding tidal flats due to trapping by the dyke of continuous sediment input from the Dongjin and Mangyeong rivers. Sands, all of which are considered to have originated originally from the two rivers, dominate the entire Saemangeum area.

  • The remote monitoring system including hemodynamic information and pump status of the implanted animal could be helpful during the in vivo experiment or clinical trial for an artificial heart Implantation. In order to monitor the course of the in vivo experiment continuously and anywhere, web-based remote monitoring system was developed, which can monitor pressures(AoP, LAP, RAP, PAP) and flow information as well as the pump operating conditions. The system consists of data sending, storing viewer part. The data sending part was constructed using component object model and the viewer part was constructed using the Java applet. In addition, the dialog box was introduced to communicate earth other instantly and the alarming function was also introduced when the hemodynamic values were out of the desired ranges. The developed remote monitoring system was applied during the in vivo experiment of the BVAD (Bi-ventricular Assist Device) implantation for 1 month and showed designed work without failure.

  • The present paper describes the design of a Solid State Telescope (SST) on board the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute satellite-1 (KASISat-1) consisting of four [TBD] nanosatellites. The SST will measure these radiation belt electrons from a low-Earth polar orbit satellite to study mechanisms related to the spatial resolution of electron precipitation, such as electron microbursts, and those related to the measurement of energy dispersion with a high temporal resolution in the sub-auroral regions. We performed a simulation to determine the sensor design of the SST using GEometry ANd Tracking 4 (GEANT4) simulations and the Bethe formula. The simulation was performed in the range of 100 ~ 400 keV considering that the electron, which is to be detected in the space environment. The SST is based on a silicon barrier detector and consists of two telescopes mounted on a satellite to observe the electrons moving along the geomagnetic field (pitch angle $0^{\circ}$) and the quasi-trapped electrons (pitch angle $90^{\circ}$) during observations. We determined the telescope design of the SST in view of previous measurements and the geometrical factor in the cylindrical geometry of Sullivan (1971). With a high spectral resolution of 16 channels over the 100 keV ~ 400 keV energy range, together with the pitch angle information, the designed SST will answer questions regarding the occurrence of microbursts and the interaction with energetic particles. The KASISat-1 is expected to be launched in the latter half of 2020.

  • For developing an Automation equipment in construction, it is a key issue to develop 3D modeling technology which can be used for automatically recognizing environmental objects. Recently, for the development of "Intelligent Excavating System(IES), a research developing the real-time 3D terrain modeling technology has been implemented from 2006 in Korea and a stereo vision system is selected as the optimum technology. However, as a result of performance tests implemented in various earth moving environment, the 3D images obtained by stereo vision included considerable noise. Therefore, in this study, for getting rid of the noise which is necessarily generated in stereo image matching, the noise elimination algorithm of stereo-vision images for 3D terrain modeling was developed. The consequence of this study is expected to be applicable in developing an automation equipments which are used in field environment.

  • Reflection coefficients of the seafloor have been calculated from the amplitude ratio of secondary to primary water bottom reflection in seismic data obtained from Bransfield Strait, Antarctic Peninsula. Test processing for the coefficients shows that moving average is effective to reduce severe fluctuation of the coefficient measured at each point. Relationship between the coefficients and the properties of water bottom is analyzed to illuminate geological environment. In the central Bransfield Basin, the magnitude of reflection coefficients decreases as it is distant from the sedimentary sources. Reflection coefficients range from 0.12 to 0.2 near the continental slope of the basin, and from 0.1 to 0.12 in the basin floor. In the western Bransfield basin, reflection coefficients between 0.2 to 0.3 are obtained from the area eroded by glacial movement. On the volcanic structures near Deception Island, the coefficients show relatively high values more than 0.2. Paleo-geological structures uplifted by tectonic movement and outcropped by glacial erosion have relatively high coefficients.

  • The DEEP-South (the Deep Ecliptic Patrol of the Southern Sky) photometric census of small Solar System bodies produces massive time-series data of variable, transient or moving objects as a by-product. To fully investigate unexplored variable phenomena, we present an application of multi-aperture photometry and FastBit indexing techniques for faster access to a portion of the DEEP-South year-one data. Our new pipeline is designed to perform automated point source detection, robust high-precision photometry and calibration of non-crowded fields which have overlap with previously surveyed areas. In this paper, we show some examples of catalog-based variability searches to find new variable stars and to recover targeted asteroids. We discover 21 new periodic variables with period ranging between 0.1 and 31 days, including four eclipsing binary systems (detached, over-contact, and ellipsoidal variables), one white dwarf/M dwarf pair candidate, and rotating variable stars. We also recover astrometry (< ${\pm}1-2$ arcsec level accuracy) and photometry of two targeted near-earth asteroids, 2006 DZ169 and 1996 SK, along with the small- (~0.12 mag) and relatively large-amplitude (~0.5 mag) variations of their dominant rotational signals in R-band.

  • This study researched the concepts that elementary school students have after having learned volcano and earthquake. The reacher collected and adjusted the journals related to this study, and sampled the concepts included in Chap. One "Moving Earth", the first term of the elementary school sixth year. The students' descriptive responses were analyzed after subjective questions on the basis of above were developed and put into. After the contents described in the answer sheets were categorized by key words and the types of concept were made out by qualitative analysis, it was showed what was differences between the sexual, regional and achievement levels. The results of this study were as follows; first, though the types of concept about volcano and earthquake were found variably, it was showed that wrong preconception was not corrected, especially the exact understanding about terms not attained to, which led to the trouble in conceptual readjustment of students. Second, though the response rate about the types of scientific concept was found high that volcano was made out of explosion and eruption of magma and lava, there were also children who described not the interior factor of globe but the surface factor. Third, according to the results divided into the interior factor of globe and the surface factor and analyzed about earthquake, there were a great number of children who responded as the surface factor though most of the students responded to the interior factor of globe. Fourth, through some types of concept, it was found that the formation of concept was much influenced by experience of children's life, curriculum, and the method of study. Fifth, In the most test question, the scientific concept was found that boys were higher than girls in the distinction of sex, the children of cities than those of town and island, and the upper group than the lower group in the achievement levels.
