In order to achieve the purpose of this study, first, the current challenges of early childhood education and the form of early childhood distance education in Korea were examined. Second, after examining the outline and characteristics of the HyFlex Learning Model(HLM) and the application cases of overseas institutions, in particular, the cases of applying the HLM in overseas early childhood education institutions were reviewed. Third, things to consider when applying the HLM in the field of early childhood education in Korea were derived. As a result, the HLM was investigated to be applicable not only in higher education but also in early childhood education as a model that emphasizes the learner's choice, learner-centered/directed, and activity. In order to apply the HLM to the early childhood education field in Korea, several points to be considered were proposed. Finally, the contribution of this study and further study were suggested.

To achieve this, a survey was carried out on 350 teachers and directors in Daejeon-based kindergartens and child-care centers from September 21 to September 30, 2013. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, 59.4% of them thought that it needed the evaluation authentication of teaching materials and implements for young children. 32.9% of them had a high perception of the early childhood education field. 39.4% of them had high need of the early childhood education field. And 45.1% of them expected a high effect of introducing the evaluation authentication system of teaching materials and implements for young children. Second, most of them had the highest need of the evaluation authentication of teaching materials and implements for young children in terms of education, followed by function and field. And most of them placed the highest emphasis on social development, safety and language in terms of education, function and field, respectively. Consequently, the use of teaching materials and implements, which the social development and safety in terms of education and function are respectively evaluated and authenticated by the diversity of teaching materials and implements for young children, has need of the high evaluation and authentication of teaching materials and implements that can guarantee the quality when young children use a lot of experiment and observation implements such as block play, reading materials, manipulating materials, making implements.

Second, face validation was assessed by 7 academic experts, and statistical validation processes were done twice. The data used in the final statistical analyses included 206 questionnaires for early childhood teachers. Statistical validation included item response analysis, item discrimination analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability analysis. Results: The 3 factors identified were as follows: Communicate teaching competence, practical teaching competence, and instrumental teaching competence. The validity and reliability of the Teaching Competency Scale for Character Education in Early Childhood Teachers were acceptable. Conclusion: This new scale will be a useful tool to better support character education for early childhood teachers and contribute to providing a basis for developing more sophisticated tools.

  • This paper draws attention on the importance of computational thinking, which is being utilized more and more in recent educational environment. Also, it suggests a teaching and learning model for improving computational thinking within early childhood education. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this era demands people to possess integrative thinking and problem-solving skills. As a result, education on computational thinking is done beginning from the early childhood, enabling children to take the leading part in the future digital generation. However, despite the appearance of many education services and products regarding computational thinking, the field lacks evaluation and academic verification. Thus, this study will complement the methodological aspect of computational thinking.

  • This study aims to determine factors influencing pre-service early childhood teachers' perception of technology equipment. Online survey is conducted to 289 students majoring in Early Childhood Education and Child Development located in city A, B, and C. SPSS 25 program analyzes 273 answers. The results show that technology education experience in high school influences TPACK and TPACK's sub-factor technology knowledge; and that technology education experience in college (university?) has a positive influence on computational thinking, perception of technology, TPACK, and TPACK's sub-factors-technology knowledge, early childhood education knowledge, and TPACK knowledge. In addition, perception of technology equipment shows high correlation with TPACK and computational thinking. Indeed, computational thinking and TPACK have 42.3% explanatory power on perception of technology equipment. The results imply that education system supporting computational thinking and TPACK should be prioritized for pre-service early childhood teacher to use technology effectively in the field.

  • Computers have become an indispensable part of everyday lives in 21st century. This is particularly true in early childhood education; multimedia use in kindergarten has rapidly grown in the last decade. Although ample research had been done on the issues of teachers' role in multimedia settings and selecting quality materials, few studies have been done on the proper environment for multimedia use in early childhood education. In this regard, this research examines the current status of multimedia use-animated illustration films, CD-ROM titles, and internet-in kindergarten. In addition, computer environment in kindergarten is investigated in order to provide guidelines for appropriate facilities and equipments. For smooth integration of computer activities into a school system, computers are located in ordinary classrooms in more than half of kindergarten in Seoul. Computers are used in independent lab settings in the last of the kindergarten in Seoul and there are four different types of lab settings. Among them computer at perimeter style is preferred for the ease of student-teacher, and student-student interactions. The importance of environment for early childhood education cannot be overestimated. It is so critical for early childhood education that the people in this field regard the environment as 'the third teacher' next to parents and teachers. Therefore the multimedia environment should also be considered seriously for the maximum use in early childhood institutions.

  • This study attempted to analyze the jobs of early childhood special education teachers working in kindergarten's special classes using the DACUM technique. To this end, the DACUM Committee was formed with six early childhood special education teachers with extensive field experience. A total of six DACUM workshops were conducted to derive job definition, job descriptions, and job specifications. As a result, the job description of early childhood special education teachers consisted of 9 duties and 53 tasks, and the job specification consisted of 80 knowledge, 98 skills, and 22 attitudes. Early childhood special education teachers working in kindergarten's special classes were tasks differentiated from special education teachers working in elementary and secondary school including home-linked guidance, health and safety management, elementary school transfer guidance, environmental composition according to play topics, and indoor and outdoor play activities guidance. In the case of knowledge, the Special Education Act on the Disabled, etc. and knowledge on behavioral modification took precedence. Skill showed high frequency of observation-record, parental interviews and parental education skills. Attitudes as experts and administrators took priority. The results of this job analysis can help organize a curriculum to train early childhood special education teachers with high job competency in universities.
