One hundred and seventy three mothers whose preschool children were attending child-care centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do participated in the survey. Kinlaw et al.(2001)'s Importance of Effort/Ability Scale was used to assess the mother's belief about the factors on academic achievement. Stipek et al.(1992)'s Activities Sub-scales was revised to measure a social capital, that is the mother's formal and informal activities providing to their preschool child. Educational level was utilized as human capital and monthly income was considered as financial capital. Also, using open ended questions, the subjects were asked to respond to the numbers of extra-curricula activities their child was presently attending, and when he or she began to attend the extra-curricular activity. The main results are as follows. In general, the mothers provided informal activities to their preschool child more than formal activities. Also, they believed the teacher's instruction is the most important and the child's ability the least important in their child's academic achievement. The number of extra-curricular activities was predicted by mothers' formal activities and their belief on their child's ability. The age of starting extra-curricular activities were explained by mothers' formal activities and their educational level.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of foodservice managers in childcare centers and kindergartens for identifying the vulnerable areas of safety management. The foodservice managers in 1,144 of nationwide childcare centers and kindergartens were surveyed from May to October 2007 to answer a total 72 questions in areas of general characteristics, actual practice of foodservice management and safety management perception. Meals were served in 97.7% of surveyed facilities and 91.0% among them were self-operated. The hiring rate (27.8%) of dietitians in childcare centers was significantly lower than the rate (82.0%) of kindergartens. The needs of dietitian employment between childcare centers and kindergartens differed as 44.9% and 87.5%, respectively. In knowledge on food-borne illnesses, they have the wrong information in the field of season for frequent outbreak, major pathogens and foods causing food-borne illnesses. The food-borne illnesses (36.2%) were indicated as the major problem in foodservice facilities and the degree of risk exposure was considered as safe (70.1%). More than 70% of both facilities answered as sanitary in the status of personal hygiene. Only 38.0% recognized the Facility and Equipment Standard in the Childcare Law and Early Childhood Education Law. In preparation of meals and management of cooking processes, kindergarten scored significantly high compared to childcare centers (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01) while the necessity of standards was not different in both facilities. Among managers surveyed, 28.8% had taken food safety education from professional institutions and more than 80% in both facilities indicated the need of professional educations. These results suggest that it is necessary for the systematic sanitary education of foodservice managers by developing the sanitary management standard as well as the amendment of laws related foodservice in childcare centers and kindergartens.

  • This study examined the components of we-ness perceived by elementary school teachers. The results of this research can be used as a new indicator based on the essential relationship of Korea to explain and improve the teacher culture and organizational culture of school. The subjects were 206 elementary school teachers. The data were analyzed using correlation, ANOVA, and exploratory factor analyses with SPSS 23, and confirmatory factor analysis with Mplus 7.1. The results of this study are as follows. First, 'psychological wellbeing', 'caring relationship', 'ethical legitimacy', and 'sharing time' were derived as the factors of early childhood teachers' perception of we-ness. In addition, considering that we-ness can be spread not only to individual relations, but also to the class, and to the same organization as a school, it can be used to form a school culture based on Korean culture and suggest a teaching culture. On the other hand, this study examined elementary school teachers; hence, the results cannot be applied to all teachers. In addition, this study was a quantitative study exploring the sub-factors through statistical analysis. The results of the quantitative research should be elaborated through interviews with school members, and follow - up studies should be conducted through case studies.

  • The aim of this research is to find out how convergent operation of the learning coaching and compensation system affects the academic self-efficiency and learning performance of university students. In the second semester, a compensation system was prepared based on learning coaching and learning outcomes, made a notice in advance, and conducted a survey before and after operation to measure the academic self-efficacy. In addition, the MLST-II Learning Strategy Diagnosis Examination was conducted on G university students to diagnose the learning tendency. As a result, although G University students felt a reluctance by coaching the learning community and expected negative results during the course of participation in the learning community due to low motivation and low expectation of results, they showed a significant improvement in academic self-efficiency and learning outcomes. Therefore, even students with negative learning tendency will need to consider how to operate these programs in the educational field, as the expert's learning coaching and compensation systems produce positive results for students' academic self-efficiency and learning outcomes rather than leaving them to autonomy.
