The Causal Linkage Between Perceived E-Learning Usefulness and Student Learning Performance: An Empirical Study from Vietnam

  • The current study adds to the body of knowledge about the mediation in the causal link between students' perceptions of the utility of eLearning and their learning performance. The data was collected from 500 questionnaires that were delivered to the students at the Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City. Only 422 finished questionnaires were usable for analyses, indicating a responding rate of 84.4%. Multiple regressions were used to investigate causal correlations, whereas Goodman's (1960) techniques were used to investigate mediating relationships. The major findings reveal that both the utility and adoption of eLearning have an impact on students' learning performance, with usefulness being a crucial determinant of eLearning adoption for study. More meaningfully, statistical evidence on the mediation of adopting eLearning for study in the causal linkage from the usefulness of eLearning perceived by students to their learning performance was provided. The relevance of using eLearning for study is stressed in this study, where it is not only one of the key antecedents of their learning performance, but also acts as a mediator between the usefulness of eLearning and learning performance in the research model.

이러닝 특성이 학습자의 학업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The effects of e-learning characteristics on e-learner's scholastic performance)

  • 본 연구의 주요 목적은 교육공학 관점과 정보기술 관점의 통합적 연구모형을 통해 이러닝 특성과 이러닝 학업성과 간의 관계를 규명하는 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이러닝 시스템 품질, 이러닝 콘텐츠 특성, 상호작용 등을 독립변수로, 이러닝 학업성과를 종속변수로, 학습동기를 매개변수로 설정, 이들 변수간의 관계를 검증해 보았다. 연구를 위해 212명의 사이버 대학 재학생들이 설문조사에 참여하였다. 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 이러닝 특성 중 기술적 품질 컨텐츠 품질 학사지원 등이 학업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 둘째, 이러닝 특성과 학업성과간의 관계에 대한 학습동기의 매개효과 분석 결과, 학습 동기는 양자간의 관계에서 부분적인 매개 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과에 근거 향후 이러닝 이용자들의 학업성과 향상을 위한 몇 가지 시사점을 제시하면 이러닝 학습자들의 다양한 수준과 목적을 고려한 강좌 및 강의내용이 적절히 제공되고, 학습자와 이러닝 시스템 간 상호작용을 원활히 할 수 있는 기능이 적극 제공된다면 이러닝의 실질적 유효성을 훨씬 더 높일 수 있을 것으로 사려된다.

  • Recently, the development of ICT(information & communications technology) with the advent of new media paradigm shift in learning has brought a dramatic impact on the competitiveness of universities. The previous studies on the academic performance of e-learning mainly targeted on e-learning users, studying additional synchronization and system quality factors to measure academic performance. This study empirically analyzed the learning flow and academic performance considering both DeLone & McLean model system quality and synchronizing factors based on ARCS model. Relating to quality and synchronization factors, the academic performance of e-learning system was tested, and the difference between learning flow and academic performance was also analyzed based on time-series data, by the test difference(in the beginning, during, and final of the semester). The results of the study are as follows. First, the study shows that both system quality and synchronization directly affected the learning performance. Thus, when designing e-learning system, it is necessary to consider these two factors at the same time. Second, the indirectly mediating effect on the system quality and synchronization factors turned out to be significant in learning flow. Third, the result of regression analysis on the contents of utilizing dummy variable presents that the teacher's explanation has greater influence than multimedia has to the academic performance, and furthermore, the test difference showed no significance. Further research should be undertaken to consider the learner's degree of acceptance which reflects various aspects for building m-learning or u-learning.

  • Over the fast few years, web-based e-Learning have made remarkable progress. According to advance of e-Learning, the evaluation of e-Learning effectiveness and success model become more important. This study had a focus on the effect of system characteristic of e-Learning systems and self-efficacy on learning performance. Data has been collected from 192 person experienced in e-Learning. The questionnaire method was adopted to collect the data for this study. The research was conducted by using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 4.0. The research results and suggestions of the study are as follow. First of all, system quality and information quality of e-Learning system had positive relationship with perceived usefulness. Second, information quality was related positively to user satisfaction. Third, perceived usefulness was positively connected with user satisfaction. Fourth, user satisfaction and self-efficacy had relation to learning performance.

  • Information technology and the Internet have had a dramatic effect on education method and individual life. Universities and companies we making large investments in e-Learning applications but are hard to pressed to evaluate the success of their e-Learning systems. e-Learning can be seen as not only one of Internet based information systems which can provide education services but also one of teaching-teaming methods which can implement self-directed teaming. This paper tests the updated model of information system success proposed by Delone and McLean using a field study of a e-Learning. The five dimensions - information quality, system quality, service quality, user satisfaction, net benefit - of the updated model are parsimonious framework for organizing the e-learning success metrics identified in the literature. Questionaires are collected from 107 students who are enrolling a e-learning class using online survey. The model is tested using SPSS and LISREL. The results show that information quality and service quality are significant predictors of user satisfaction with the e-Learning system but system quality is not. Also user satisfaction is found to be a strong predictor of the learning performance. This strong association between user satisfaction and teaming performance suggests that user satisfaction may serve as a valid surrogate for teaming performance. Empirical testing of the updated DeLone & McLean model should therefore be extended to cover a wider variety of systems.

  • Recently, the growth of e-Learning systems and its related information technology has presented a unique challenge for both schools and industry. It would make an extremely phenomenal paradigm shift in the educational method and practice. Methods of assessing the quality of e-teaming services and contents are critical issue in both practice and research. Moreover, many researchers are interested in what qualify factors more affect to the Performance of e-Learning service. Nevertheless, service quality is a construct that is difficult to define and measure. e-Learning services are composed of many factors, and they are more complicated than the traditional education services because they we performed on the distance basis and the many platforms of IT infrastructure. The purposes of our research are to classify the e-Learning service dimension and identify their factors, to develop the measurement of the factors, and finally to test empirically their relationship between the service factors and e-Learning service performance. For the development of the service factors we considered SERVQUAL model and SERVPERF model which were developed in the service marketing area. The SERVQUAL model was more fitted to the e-Learning services than the latter. From that we derived several factors that fit to our research domain, ie, tangibles, access, reliability, credibility, security, responsiveness, assurance, empathy. We combined three factors of them(reliability, credibility, security) into a factor, system stability for the semantic simplicity, and divided responsiveness factor into system operator responsiveness and teacher responsiveness as the entity based dimension classification. In the e-Learning services research, Most researcher are mentioned the quality factors of contents, so we added to two contents quality factors, ie, contents production method and richness of contents itself. We examined the relationship between the service quality factors and e-Learning performance(student satisfaction and service reuse intention). As result three quality factors(contents production method, teacher responsiveness, empathy) significantly affected student satisfaction. To the other performance variable, ie, service reuse intention, the teacher related quality factors(such as teacher responsiveness, assurance, empathy) affected only. In conclusion, even in the on-line distance teaming, the teacher's role md earnestness is as important as ever.

  • e-Learning으로 대변되는 교육의 변화는 교육환경의 기술적인 측면뿐만 아니라 패러다임 자체를 바꾸어 놓고 있다. e-Learning 환경에서의 사용자는 시스템 사용자뿐만 아니라 학습자의 역할을 동시에 가지고 있기 때문에 이런 복잡한 현상을 설명하기 위해서는 보다 포괄적인 시각이 필요하다고 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 포괄적인 시각을 연구하기에 앞서 학습자의 동기 유발에 초점을 두고 학습 성과를 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 플로우 이론을 이용하여 제시하고자 한다. 연구 결과 첫째, 플로우의 구성 요소인 내재된 흥미와 주의집중은 종속 변수인 학습 성과에 유의적인 영향을 미치고 있으며, 특히 내재된 흥미가 주의집중보다 더 중요한 요인으로 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 내재된 흥미에 영향을 미치는 요인은 정보 품질과 숙련도로 나타났으며, 셋째, 주의집중에 영향을 미치는 요인은 인지된 사용용이성, 숙련도, 컴퓨터 자기효능감으로 나타났다.

e-러닝 컨텐츠에서 문제풀이 정보의 제시유형에 따른 성과 차이 분석 (The effect of types of test information on learning performance in the e-Learning contents)

  • e-러닝으로 대변되는 교육의 변화는 교수중심 수업방식이 학습자 중심의 수업방식으로, 기존의 교과서 중심에서 벗어나 다양한 멀티미디어 매체를 이용한 수업환경으로 바뀌어가고 있다. 지금까지 e-러닝 성과를 높이기 위한 다양한 연구가 있어왔고, 많은 연구에서 컨텐츠 품질이 학습 성과에 영향을 미지는 중요한 요인 중의 하나로_ 밝혀졌다. 본 연구의 목적은 e-러닝 컨텐츠에서 문제풀이 정보의 제시유형과 성별이 학습자의 e-러닝 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하는 것이다. 분석 결과는 첫째, 학습 이해도에 있어서 제시 유형과 성별간의 상호작용 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 여성의 경우 문제풀이 정보를 제공하는 것이 높은 이해도를 보인 반면에 남성의 경우는 설명형으로 제공해야 높은 학습 이해도를 보였다. 둘째, 학습 이해도와 학습 만족도에 있어서 문제풀이 정보의 제시 유형간에 유의적인 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 설명형이 가장 높은 학습 이해도와 만족도를 보였다. 마지막으로, 남성과 여성간의 성별 차이는 학습 이해도와 만족도에 아무런 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

학습 공동체의 특성이 기업 e-Learning 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Community of Learning(CoL) on the e-Learning Performance)

  • The present paper examines the effect of "community of learning" factors as well as learning and contextual factors on the e-learning performance empirically. The concept of community of learning, which was derived from community of practice, has not been emphasized in previous studies on e-learning. Data were collected from 226 people who had experienced e-learning and multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. The results are as follows; First, learning motivation and appropriateness of learning contents, ease of system use, and knowledge sharing have a positive effect on learner's satisfaction. Whereas, learning motivation, appropriateness of learning contents, ease of system use, knowledge sharing, and activated communication are appeared to affect the ability of performing tasks significantly.

e-러닝 기반 경영과학 강의방식에 관한 사례연구 (Case Study: e-Learning for Management Sciences Course)

  • E-learning is a networked phenomenon allowing for instant revisions and distribution, and goes beyond training and instruction to the delivery of information and tools to improve performance. The proponents of e-learning emphasizes that students learn more effectively when they interact and are involved with other students participating in similar endeavors. The paper outlines the process of development and design of e-learning based Management Sciences course, with the aim of ensuring widespread use, in undergraduate business program. Experiences in introducing students to e-learning course are reported. Feedback from students has been very positive but also indicates the need for ongoing support and direction. In addition, a survey was used to identify the determinants of students' academic performance of Management Science, and PLS based model is developed to analyze the results. Statistical results concerning the hypothesized model are provided.
