  • This paper derives the generalized stiffness to find dynamic characteristics and its derivatives of a continuous system. And a new sensitivity analysis method is presented by using the amount of change of generalized stiffness and vibrational mode caused by the variation of stiffness. In this paper, to get or detect appropriate results, cantilever beam and stepped beam and stepped beam are used. Deviations of sensitivity coefficient, natural frequency, and vibrational mode are calculated as result, and compared with the theoretical exact values.

  • There are many modelling methods using theoretical and experimental data. Recently, fractal interpolation methods have been widely used to estimate and analyze various data. Due to the chaotic nature of dynamic roundness profile data in roundness some desirable method must be used for the analysis which is natural to time series data. Fractal analysis used in this paper is within the scope of the fractal interpolation and fractal dimension. Also, two methods for computing the fractal dimension has been introduced which can obtain the dimension of typical dynamic roundness profile data according to the number of data points in which the fixed data are generally lower than 200 data points. This fractal analysis result shows a possible prediction of roundness profile that has some different roundness profile in round shape operation.

  • The end-milling force behaviour is very complex and it is related to a de-noising phenomenon, so it is very difficult to detect and diagnose this static cutting force phenomenon. This paper presents a new method of filtering of end-milling force in end-milling operation using filter bank technique, based on the wavelet transform. In this paper by comparing the history of end-milling force using wavelet filtering the fundamental end-milling property of the wavelet transform is well reviewed and analyzed. This result of wavelet transform using filter bank shows the possible static prediction of end-milling force with severe dynamic properties such as chatter in end-milling operation.

  • This paper studies the effect of pad at initial stage and wear during braking on the dynamic contact pressure distribution. Wear is influenced by variable factor (contact pressure, sliding speed, radius, temperature) during dynamic braking and variation in contact pressure distribution. Many researchers have conducted complex eigenvalue analysis considering wear characteristic with Lim and Ashby wear map. The conventional analysis method is assumed the pad has smooth and flat surfaces. The purpose of this paper is to validate that wear rate induced by braking is considered for the precise squeal prediction. After obtaining pad wear from experiment, it is incorporated with FE model of brake system. Finally, the comparisons in fugitive nature of squeal will be carried out between the complex eigenvalue analysis and noise dynamometer experiment.

  • In this paper, we assume that the dynamics of DC motor and nonlinear load are unknown. We train the inverse dynamic model of DC motor and nonlinear load using the neural network and construct speed control system based on the traind dynamic model and current control mode. Speed prediction scheme using neural network is also proposed the alleviate the time delay effect caused by the computation time of neural network. Simulation results show good performances of the control system. Finally, hardware configuration of the control system is outlined.

  • In many practical cases, design methods of pile have been used mainly semi empirical bearing capacity equations. It can be done that confirmation of pile bearing capacities through using of dynamic and static tests during constructing or after constructions. If a prediction of layered point pile bearing capacity could be done through simple tests during field investigation, it could be done that more reliable design of pile than a prediction of using semi empirical equations or static formulations. This paper suggests a method to estimated point bearing capacity during in-situ investigation by using the dynamic rod model pile and verifies the point bearing capacity compare with results of static pile load tests. From test results, the unit ultimate point bearing capacities are relatively similar through a dynamic rod model pile tests and static pile load tests. The unit ultimate point bearing capacity by using N value is shown about 50 % value of measured unit ultimate point bearing capacity from field test result and the prediction of the unit ultimate point bearing capacity by using N value is shown very conservative, illogical and uneconomical pile designs.

  • An end beam is one of the most important structural members supporting uncovered freight under in-service loading. In general, it needs to endure over 25 years. However fatigue fracture has occurred at dynamic stress concentration location of the end beam because user's specifications demanded high speed and vehicle manufacturer made the uncovered freight car with comparatively low strength and stiffness. For durability analysis, finite element analysis is performed to evaluate the problem of uncovered freight structure and local strain. The uncovered freight car was operated on actual problematic railroad line to measure dynamic stress versus time history on the critical part from which a crack is initiated often. Rainflow cycle counting method was used to estimate fatigue damage at dangerous area under operating condition. Therefore, this study shows that analytical fatigue life at the end beam can be predicted on the basis of S-N curve and structure analysis and has a fairly good correlation with experimental fatigue life.

A New Dynamic Prediction Algorithm for Highway Traffic Rate (고속도로 통행량 예측을 위한 새로운 동적 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a dynamic prediction algorithm using the cumulative distribution function for traffic volume is presented as a new method for predicting highway traffic rate more accurately, where an approximation function of the cumulative distribution function is obtained through numerical methods such as natural cubic spline interpolation and Levenberg-Marquardt method. This algorithm is a new structure of random number generation algorithm using the cumulative distribution function used in financial mathematics to be suitable for predicting traffic flow. It can be confirmed that if the highway traffic rate is simulated with this algorithm, the result is very similar to the actual traffic volume. Therefore, this algorithm is a new one that can be used in a variety of areas that require traffic forecasting as well as highways.

Free Surface Oscillation in Sloshing Problem Predicted with ALE Method

  • A numerical prediction method has been proposed to predict non-linear free surface oscillation in a three-dimensional container. The fluid motions are numerically predicted with Navier-Stokes equations discretized in a Lagrangian scheme with sufficient numerical accuracy. The profile of a free surface is precisely represented with three-dimensional body-fitted coordinates (BFC), which are regenerated in each computational step on the basis of the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation. In order to confirm the reliability of the computational method, it was firstly applied to three-dimensional flows within complicated-shaped rigid boundaries, such as curved pipes and ducts. Than it was applied to benchmark computations related to free surface oscillations. Following these basic verifications, non-linear sloshings in a cylindrical tank and transitions from sloshing to swirling motions were numerically predicted. Throughout these computations, the applicability of the present computational method has been confirmed and some of the predicted free surface motions were visualized as sequential images and animations to understand their dynamic futures.

  • This paper proposes a new method for predicting the derailment of a running train under cross-wind conditions, using the single wheelset derailment theory. The conventional theories used for predicting the derailment due to cross-winds were developed under the assumption that derailment will always be of the roll-over type, thus neglecting other possible types such as wheel-climbing, which may occur under special driving conditions. In addition, these theories do not consider running conditions such as dynamic wheel-rail interactions and friction effects. The new method considers the effects of dynamic wheel-rail interaction as well as those of lateral acceleration, rail cant, and cross-winds. The results of this method were compared and verified with those of the conventional methods and numerical simulations.
