  • This paper presents results of dynamic analysis of the missile initial motion arising from the missile detent force. Using ADAMS (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System) software, a non-linear 46-DOF (Degree of Freedom) model is developed for the launcher system including missile and launch tube contact problem. From the dynamic analysis, it is found that initial angular velocity of the missile increases when the missile detent force increases (more than 18 g) and also rocket exhaust plume is taken into account. To achieve the missile launching s ability, it needs to reduce the missile initial detent force and exhaust plume area of the launcher. Results of the dynamic analysis on the system natural frequency agree well with those obtained from experimental modal tests. The overall results suggest that the proposed method is a useful tool for prediction of initial missile stability as well as d :sign of the missile launcher system.

  • Corrugation of railway track can be caused by the various dynamic behavior of travelling wheels and track. In this paper, the coupled vibrations of travelling wheel and railway track are analyzed as the cause of corrugations. To analyze the coupled vibrations, the track supported by the sleepers and the traveling wheel are identified to the elastically supported infinite beam and the spring-mass system which runs at constant speed. The Hertzian contact spring is considered betwen the infinite beam and spring-mass system. The dynamic responses of elastically supported infinite beam and spring-mass system are calculated. The cause and development of rail corrugation are discussed in the view point of contact force fluctuation affected by the elastic supports and the corrugated surface profile of the track. By the obtained results, the possibilities of resonance are checked between the excitation by the corrugated surface profile and the natural frequency of contact spring-moving mass system. It may be thought to a development of railway corrugation.

  • In this paper, we introduce the on-line test of the current collection characteristics for HSR 350x(Korea High Speed Train project) that have been performed in the Kyoung-bu high-speed line since 2002. Through the analysis of measured data during on-line test, the variation trend of contact force between pantograph and contact wire of catenary according to the span type, the track conditions and driving patterns is reviewed. In order to analyze the variation trend of contact force, we have checked the span type of catenary in KP 24 - 125 out of Kyoung-bu high speed line and obtained the statistical processing result per each span type. This study shows that the track conditions do not affect on the dynamic performance between pantograph and contact wire catenary, and the span type and the driving pattern are important factors in determining the good interaction between them.

  • In order to maintain the faith and accuracy with precision of machinery, it is recently required the precise comprehension about approach which is appeared in the contact area between two bodies, because approach affects the static stiffness and dynamic characteristic of contact area. This study applied H. Hertz's circle contact area theory as much lower measuring force. It is measured approach influenced by various factors which were concerned with contact errors like material, form of two bodies, using calibration tester. As a result, the following conclusion can be obtained. 1) The approach appears greatly in order of carbon steel(SM20C), aluminum(A601-T6) and high density polyethylene(5305E) 2) The approach appears in order of concave, disc, convex form, in the ration of contact area size by the difference of curvature.

  • The beam structure models with an impactor or contact parts under impact forces have teen applied to the design of mechanical and electronic accessories. Switches, hard-disk pick-ups and sensors are typical structural examples of the structure to be designed to colliding with other parts of structures. In this paper, in order to examine the relationships between the changes of the stiffness and damping of the impactor and vibrations of the dynamic characteristics of the impact model of a cantilevered beam with an impactor, impact force of the impactor and response characteristics of the cantilevered beam were analyzed by both numerical simulation and experiment. Since the stiffness and damping of the impactor have high nonlinear characteristics, the contact model using revised Herz-model was established by experiments. Also, the results of numerical analyses for dynamic response and impact force of a cantilevered beam with an impactor have a good agreement with experimental results.

  • The HDD (hard disk drive) using Load/Unload (L/UL) technology includes the benefits which are increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance than those of contact-start-stop (CSS). Dynamic L/UL has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main design objectives of the L/UL mechanisms are no slider-disk contact or no media damage even with contact during L/UL, and a smooth and short unloading process. In this paper, we focus on lift-off force, pitch static attitude (PSA), roll static attitude (RSA) and dimple point. The "lift-off" force, defined as the minimum air bearing force, is another very important indicator of unloading performance. A large amplitude of lift-off force increases the ramp force, the unloading time, the slider oscillation and contact-possibility. PSA and RSA are also very important parameters in L/UL system and stability of slider is mainly determined by PSA and RSA. Dimple point by PSA and RSA is also important indicator. Therefore we find the optimal dimple point of SFF HDD suspension for improving the unloading performance.

  • The traveling wave ultra-sonic motor (TWUSM) is operated through the frictional force between the rotor and the stator. Hence, the contact mechanism should be analyzed to estimate the motor performance. However, the nonlinearity of the contact mechanism of the TWUSM makes it difficult to propose a proper contact model and a characteristic analysis method. To address these problems, a novel contact model is proposed and be termed the cylindrical dynamic contact model (CDCM) in this research. An estimation method of the motor performance is proposed using the CDCM, an analytical method, and a numerical method. The feasibility and usefulness of the proposed characteristic analysis are verified through experimental data.

  • The purpose of this study were to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the portable slipmeters with respect to actual slipping and to compare their output with those of force platform. The selected slipmeters were commonly used devices for slipperiness measurement in situ floors. Their output quantity represented force (BOT-3000), loss of energy(British pendulum striker) and angle of inclination(English XL). The validity of these devices was studied with respect to actual slipping using a force platform. The precision of these devices was also evaluated with force platform. Based on dynamics of human subject behavior when slipping during normal walking, the all devices tested in this study showed poor performances: low built up ratio, low normal pressure, and long contact time prior to slip. Nevertheless, their results reasonably correlated with those calculated from the ground reaction forces generated by the operation of the selected slipmeters on the force platform although the absolute values of COF from these three devices could be quite different. Also the results showed good repeatability under the some test conditions.

  • A numerical method is presented for the dynamic analysis of military tracked vehicles of high mobility. To compute the impulsive dynamic contact forces which occur when a vehicle passes on a ground obstacle, the track is modeled as the combination of elastic links interconected by pin joints. The mass of each track link, the elastic elongation of a track link between pin joints by the track tension, and the elastic spring effects on the upper and lower surfaces of each track link have been considered in the equations of motion. And the chassis, torsion bar arms, and road wheels of the vehicle are modeled as the rigid multi bodies connected with kinematic constraints. The contact positions and the contact forces between the road wheels and track, and the ground and the the track are simultaneously computed with the solution of the equations of motions of the vehicle consisting of the multibodies. The iterative scheme for the solution of the multi body dynamics of the tracked vehicle is presented and the numerical simulations are conducted.

  • In this work, an optimum shape synthesis for rolling contact components was done to minimize contact forces considering dynamic characteristics of the system. Even this method was applied to an OHC type cam follower system, it can be expanded to general rolling contact shape design problems which are strictly forced to follow predetermined motion. First, the follower optimum angular motion was derived to minimize the valve peak acceleration while satisfying all the constraints of valve motion. Then the cam and follower contact shape were synthesized to give the proposed follower motion. Theoretically, two components shape to generate a predetermined motion can not be uniquely determined. So the cam shape was syntehsized with parametric synthesis method to minimize the peak contact force between cam and follower when the follower shape is assumed as a circle or an ellipse.
