Design of the 1.8V 6-bit 2GSPS CMOS ADC for the DVD PRML (DVD PRML을 위한 1.8V 6-bit 2GSPS CMOS ADC 설계)

  • In this paper, CMOS A/D converter with 6bit 2GSPS Nyquist input at 1.8V is designed. In order to obtain the resolution of 6bit and the character of high-speed operation. we present an Interpolation type architecture. In order to overcome the problems of high speed operation further a novel encoder, a circuit for the Reference Fluctuation, an Averaging Resistor and a Track & Hold for the improved SNR are proposed. The proposed Interpolation ADC consists of Track & Holt four resistive ladders with 64 taps, 32 comparators and digital blocks. The proposed ADC is based on 0.18um 1-poly 3-metal N-well CMOS technology, and it consumes 145mW at 1.8V power supply.

  • 집안의 TV 수신기로 접수되는 TV 프로그램 신호를 끊임없이 외부의 라우터로 중계하여 집밖의 어디에서든 인터넷만 연결되어 있으면 집안의 TV, PVR 또는 DVD 플레이어를 원격 작동하여 집밖에서 집안의 기기들의 컨텐츠를 감상할 수 있다. 이 때 홈 서버용 개인형 방송 미디어 플레이어를 제안함으로써 집 밖의 원거리에 있는 내 PC상에서 집 안의 기기들의 컨텐츠 데이터를 실제 리모콘을 조작하듯이 TV를 켜고, 끄고, 채널을 변경하고, 외부입력(PVR 또는 DVD 플레이어 등)을 전환하는 등 가상의 리모콘을 통해 사용자 마음대로 전송받고 제어할 수 있는 홈 서버용 개인형 방송 미디어 플레이어를 제안한다.

  • This paper presents the VLSI implementation of RS(reed-solomon) decoder using the Modified Euclidean Algorithm(hereafter MEA) for DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) and CD(Compact Disc). The decoder has a capability of correcting 8-error or 16-erasure for DVD and 2-error or 4-erasure for CD. The technique of polynomial evaluation is introduced to realize syndrome calculation and a polynomial expansion circuit is developed to calculate the Forney syndrome polynomial and the erasure locator polynomial. Due to the property of our system with buffer memory, the MEA architecture can have a recursive structure which the number of basic operating cells can be reduced to one. We also proposed five criteria to determine an uncorrectable codeword in using the MEA. The overall architecture is a simple and regular and has a 4-stage pipelined structure.

  • DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) is the data storage media devised to make high storage density and high data input/output possible. Therefore higher rotational speed and better accuracy in optical pick-up are required compared with the existing optical storage device. These operational functional requirements are concerned with abilities of optical storage device. Especially, High rotational speed is deeply concerned with the noise and vibration of optical storage device, is important problem in development of optical storage device so much. This paper propose a new concept ROM media of optical storage device named as Cylindrical ROM media, and evaluate this by means of Axiomatic approach and empirical data.

Synthesis and Optical Recording Properties of Coupled Hemicyanine Salts for DVD-R

  • A series of coupled-hemicyanine dyes with alkylene spacer were successfully synthesized by a reaction of coupled aldehydes with corresponding salts, respectively. These coupled dyes had more excellent thermal properties (high decomposition temperature, stiff decomposition behavior) and higher molar absorption properties than an uncoupled dye. The coupled dyes with perchlorate anions showed the strongest exothermic decomposition while those with hexafluorophosphorate anions showed endothermic decomposition. As the coupling length (n=3, 4, 5, 6) increased, thermal properties decreased and dyes with even spacer was more thermally stable than dyes with odd spacer. Among several coupled dyes, C4-NP-ClO4 and C4-Cl-ClO4 exhibited the best recording properties with the lowest jitter value of 7.5∼9.5% in authoring disc.

  • Extensive studies have been conducted for reducing the residual stresses and birefringence in injection-molded optical disk substrate. Flow-induced and thermally-induced stresses and birefringence have been found as two main sources during injection molding process. However, high speed rotation also induces extra stresses and birefringence in real operation of disk drives. In the present paper rotation-induced in-plane birefringence has been measured and presented for CD and DVD substrates at different radial position. About 10 - 15 nm of extra retardation has been measured up to 4,800 rpm.

  • A Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoder which decodes PRML signal of DVD has been designed by CMOS circuit. The analog processing-based Viterbi decoder implements are functions of the conventional digital Viterbi decoder utilizing the analog parallel processing circuit technology. The Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoding technology is applied for the PR(1,2,2,1) signal decoding of DVD. The benefits are low power consumption and less silicon consumption. In this paper, the comparison of the Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi Decoder which has a function of the error correction between Max operation and Average operation is discussed.

  • The objective of this study is to review diverse determinants of windowing in Korean drama such as rating, theme, type of drama, quantity of newsbreak and independent production. The after-market will be overseas market, domestic cable TV and emerging two revenue sources such as VOD and DVD. Korean dramas aired on free TV between 2000 and 2004 will be analysed by chi-square.

  • Sound contents of these days are in the trend of 3D surround audio which has much higher quality then CD audio with the aid of DVD, Development environments of sound contents should be advanced and the efficient application of this system is quite necessary. In this paper, we proposed an improving method for utilizing sound/audio card systems which are necessory for developing game and multimedia sound contents as well as relate know-hows of producing 3D sounds with sound production tools for their efficient usages and applications.

  • 본 논문은 가정 내나 소호용의 멀티미디어 게이트웨이 서버 시스템에 관한 것이다. 가정 내 컴퓨터 시스템의 보급률이 높아지고 그 활용에 대한 관심이 많아지고 있다. 현재는 가정 내까지 ADSL망이 들어와 있고 가정 내에나 소호에 컴퓨터 유사 시스템들이 사용되므로 이들을 연결하는 망의 구성이 필요하다 본 논문의 장비는 이러한 망의 구성과 내부에서 외부의 망으로 접근을 하는 방법을 제공할 뿐아니라 외부망에서 내부망을 접근하여 내부기기를 통제하는 서어비스에 관해서도 논한다. 또한 DVD나 DTV 등의 멀티미디어 서어비스에 관한 것도 논하기로 한다. 가정이나 소호에 관련한 장비로는 무선랜, 블루투스, HomePNA, IEEE1394, DVD, Ethernet 등으로 구성되며 PLC에 관해서도 간략하게 논하도록 한다. 이러한 멀티미디어 게이트웨이 서버는 인터넷 게이트웨이로서 뿐만아니라 서어비스 게이트웨이로서의 역할을 하게된다.
