  • By measuring changes in blood lactate and plasma enzyme (CPK, GOT, GPT) with electrical stimulation applied at two duty cycles, this study is intended to look into which type of duty cycle may have more effects on blood lactate and plasma enzyme constituents through animal experiment so as to determine any duty cycle appropriate for electrical treatment. In this study, electrical stimulation was applied to total 20 Korean house rabbits (weight: 3~3.5 kg) by means of an electrical therapeutic apparatus called TS6000 (made in Netherlands) at duty cycle of 50% and 20% respectively for 30 minutes. Here, 5 cc of blood was collected from their carotid artery before stimulation and in 30 minutes after stimulation respectively to carry out biochemical experiment and analysis. As determined through the above experiment, blood lactate rate was increased to 333.07% at 50% duty cycle after experiment and 185.71% at 20% duty cycle after experiment respectively. In both cases, blood lactate rate was significantly increased to higher level after electrical stimulation than before. Moreover, the rate of change in the average of blood lactate rate at both duty cycles also showed significant differences. CPK rate was boosted to 301.82% at 50% duty cycle after experiment and 321.35% at 20% duty cycle after experiment respectively. In both cases, CPK rate was remarkably boosted to higher level after stimulation than before (p<.05). However, there was not any significant difference in the rate of change in average CPK at both duty cycles (p<.05). GOT rate was significantly boosted up to 38.97% at 50% duty cycle after experiment (p<.05), while it was slightly increased to 1.68% at 20% duty cycle after experiment without any significant difference. Rather, GPT rate dropped slightly at both duty cycles after experiment, but there was not any significant difference. Although blood lactate and GOT were relatively less generated at 20% duty cycle after electrical stimulation than at 50% duty cycle, the change of duty cycle didn't have any significant influence on CPK rate. In this regard, this study failed to come any consistent conclusion about the association between change of duty cycle and muscle fatigue. Therefore, it is advisable that follow-up studies seek various ways to a little more effectively apply electrical stimulation to laboratory animals by avoiding their muscle fatigue. • Duty cycle is determined as the ratio of operating time to total time. Duty cycle in reliability prediction is one of the significant factors to be considered. In duty cycle application, non-operating time failure rate has been easily ignored even though the failure rate in non-operating period has not been proved to be small enough. Ignorance of non-operating time failure rate can result in over-estimated system reliability calculation. Furthermore, utilization of duty cycle in reliability prediction has not been evaluated in its effectiveness. In order to address these problems, two reliability models, such as MIL-HDBK-217F and RIAC-HDBK-217Plus, were used to analyze non-operating time failure rate. This research has proved that applying duty cycle in 217F model is not reasonable by the quantitative comparison and analysis.

  • Circulatory and respiratory activities were observed in men exposed to the environment of engine room of a cruising Republic of Korea Navy ship and compared to the control values obtained in an ordinary laboratory room on land. The environment of an engine room of cruising navy ship was presumed to be a multiple stress acting on men. The environment of the engine room included high temperature $(35-42^{\circ}C)$, low relative humidity (20-38% saturation), vibration (about 7 cycles per second), rolling and pitching of ship and noises. Sixteen men were divided into two groups consisted of each 8 subjects. Subjects of sea duty group had experience of continuous on board duty averaging 3.5 years. Men of land duty group had no experience of on board activity. On land observations were made on one day prior to the boarding and leaving the port and four days after landing. In between observations in the engine room were made on the first, 5 th, 9 th, 12 th, and 14 th day of on board activity. The whole experimental period lasted for 20 days. Measurements on circulatory and respiratory parameters were at standing resting state (after 30 minutes standing in the case of on land study and 15 minutes in engine room study) and within one minute after cessation of on the spot running of which rhythm was 30/min. and lasted for 5 minutes. Oxygen consumption and pulmonary function test were done in the period of two minutes from the 3rd to 5th minutes of running. The following results were obtained. 1. Body temperature showed no change regardless of group difference or on land or on board measurements. 2. Pulse rate increased markedly after boarding the ship id both groups. Pulse rate increased from the first day on board at rest and after exercise as compared to the on land control value. This increase in pulse rate was more marked after exercise. Sea duty group showed less increase in pulse rate at rest than the land duty group. Standing and resting pulse rate of sea duty group on lam was 81 and increased to 87 at the 5th day on board and remained smaller than the land duty group throughout the period on board. Control standing and resting pulse rate of land duty group on land was 76 and reached 89 at the 9th day on board and thereafter decreased a little. Pulse rate of land duty group at rest on board remained greater than that of sea duty group throughout the period on board. 3. Systolic blood pressure of sea duty group increased after boarding the ship and remained higher than the control value on land. In the land duty group, however, systolic blood pressure decreased during the period on board the ship. Diastolic blood pressure decreased in both groups. 4. Resting breathing rate of land duty group increased and remained higher than the control value on land. In sea duty group, however, resting breathing rate showed a transient increase on the 1st day on board and decreased thereafter to the control value on land and kept the same level throughout the period of cruise. Absolute value of breathing rate in the sea duty group was greater than the land duty group both at rest and after exercise. 5. There was a lowering of breathing efficiency in both groups. Thus, increases in tidal volume and minute ventilation volume and decreases in maximum breathing capacity, vital capacity, capacity ratio and air velocity Index were observed after boarding the ship. An increase in ventilation equivalent was also observed in both groups. The lowering of breathing efficiency was more marked in the land duty group than the sea duty group. 6. Energy expediture increased in both groups during their stay on the ship and was more marked in the sea duty group. 7, Lactate concentration in venous blood at rest and after exercise increased after boarding the ship and no group difference was observed.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate energy savings for inverter driving multi-stage centrifugal pump. Variable speed driving pump system has high efficiency compared with constant speed driving pump system. Because of difficulty to estimate operating efficiency of variable speed driving pump system, energy saving rates are used to replace operating efficiency. energy saving rates are calculated from pump input power and pump duty cycle. But another researches have used pump duty cycles of each season for energy saving rate. In this study, for estimating energy saving rate more high accuracy, pump duty cycles are measured for 1 year. pump duty cycles, depending on the season and be classified according to the weekday/weekend or during the week day. By this pump duty cycles, Energy saving rate is calculated appropriately.

  • A heavy duty hydrogen enriched CNG engine has the possibility to obtain stable operation at ultra lean condition and to reduce emission extremely. And it can also serve as a so called bridge technology between the current fossil fueled engine and the future hydrogen power system. The emission, torque and brake thermal efficiency characteristics of a heavy-duty hydrogen-CNG engine were investigated to determine the proper mixing rate of hydrogen and CNG. It was found that the proper mixing rates at ${\lambda}=1.4$ and ${\lambda}=1.6$ were around 20% and 30% for hydrogen addition rate respectively.

  • Background: In this study, we observed their growth and physiological responses using a variety of duty ratio under the mixed light using red, blue, and white lights. The red+blue mixed light was treated with 95%, 90%, 85%, 80%, and 75% duty ratios and red+blue+white mixed light with 85% and 70% duty ratios. We examined the width and length of leaves, total number of leaves, and number of shoots to examine their growth responses. The physiological responses were studied by measuring their photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency, chlorophyll content, and fluorescence ($F_o$, $F_m$, and $F_v/F_m$). Results: We found that lower duty ratio caused the length and width of the leaves to grow longer under red+blue mixed light but that it did not cause any difference in the red+blue+white mixed light condition. In addition, there was no difference in the number of leaves and shoots among all treatments. In the red+blue mixed light condition, the photosynthetic rate was no difference, but both transpiration rate and stomatal conductance were the highest at 95% duty ratio than in other ratios. Water use efficiency pattern was similar to that of photosynthetic rate; water use efficiency was no difference. Chlorophyll content was the highest at 95% duty ratios, and it was the least at 90%, 85%, and 75% duty ratio. $F_o$ and $F_m$ values were relatively high at 85% and 80% duty ratio and low at 90% duty ratio while $F_v/F_m$ showed no difference. Conclusions: Under the red+blue+white mixed light, all physiological items showed no difference between 70 and 85% treatments. But, photosynthetic rate, water use efficiency, chlorophyll content, and $F_v/F_m$ were relatively greater in the red+blue+white mixed light than in the red+blue mixed light. Therefore, red+blue+white mixed light treated with 70% duty ratio could lessen the environmental stress and save more power when cultivating Silene capitata in a plant factory.

  • This paper describes a novel internal clock generator, called duty cycle-corrected analog synchronous mirror delay (DCC-ASMD). The proposed circuit is well suited for dual edge-triggered systems such as double data-rate synchronous DRAM since it can achieve clock synchronization within two clock cycles with accurate duty cycle correction. To evaluate the performance of the proposed circuit, DCC-ASMD was designed using a $0.35\mu$m CMOS process technology. Simulation results show that the proposed circuit generates an internal clock having $50\%$ duty ratio within two clock cycles from the external clock having duty ratio range of $40\;\~\;60$.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the determination method of designed duty of water in the rice fields through the comparison of the net unit duty of water at the late reduction division to heading stage with that at the planting stage. The data used for analysing this problem are the data of precipitation and gauge evaporation observed by Cheong-ju Meterological Center, the coefficient of evapotranspiration by College of Agriculture, Chung Buk University and the data of transplanting progressing in Boun area. The results obtained from this analysis are summarized as follows. 1.The occurring year of 1/10 probability value for available precipitation, gauge evaporation and mean maximum daily evapotranspiration during growing season is the year of 1977. 2.The 1/10 probability values of mean maximum evapotranspiration per day under the production rate of 1, 400kg/l0a and 1, 500kg/10a based on the weight of dry matters are 9. 2mm/day and 9. 6mm/day, respectively. 3.The net unit duty of water required in the fields that the maximum planting rate exists is more than the one in the fields that the planting rate is uniform in the planting stage. 4.The determination of net unit duty of water in the late reduction division to heading stage or the planting stage depends upon the daily evapotranspiration and percolation rate in the late reduction division to heading stage or the water depth required for planting and daily consumptive use of water after planting at the planting stage. Therefore the use of figure 5-(1) to figure 5-(6) can easily make the determination of the designed net unit duty of water out of above two kinds of net unit duty of water.
