A study of DSC using Ultrasonic and Thermal treatment on Photo-Electrode (염료감응형 태양전지 광전극 초음파 열처리에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, there were many researches for efficiency improvement of DSC. Among of these works, research of surface treatment is still a prerequisite for electron diffusion, light-harvesting and surface state of DSC.[1] Using of the surface treatment, it can be raise up porosity of $TiO_2$ nano-crystalline structure on photo-electrode. There are chemical, physical, electrical and optical methods which raise up its porosity. In this paper, we have designed and manufactured MOPA-type ultrasonic circuit (100W, frequency and duty variable). Manufactured ultrasonic circuit to use to force cavity density and power into $TiO_2$ paste. Then, we have optimized forcing time, frequency and duty of ultrasonic irradiation for surface treatment of photo-electrode of DSC. In I-V characteristic test of DSC, ultrasonic and thermal treated DSC shows 19% improved its efficiency against monolithic DSC. And it shows stability of light-harvesting from drastically change of light irradiation test.

  • Duty-cycling could efficiently prolong the life time of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) by let nodes be in dormant state most of the time, and only wake up (for sending or receiving) for a very short period. Flooding is one critical operation of WSNs. Many studies have been studied to improve the delay and/or energy efficiency of flooding. In this paper, we propose a novel time slot design, and the switching decision that reduce energy consumption for the schedule-based flooding tree. Each node, if failed to receive from its parent, will look for other candidate, among its siblings to overhear the flooding packet. By accurately collect information from other siblings, each node can make the best as possible switching decision; therefore the energy efficiency of the network is improved.

  • In this paper, the circuit of AC Choppers for $CO_2$ laser power supply are proposed and investigated. IGBT-controlled ac voltage regulators, operating at high frequency chopping mode. Chopping-to-supply duty ratio plays an important role in terms of laser output. Laser input energy is varied by controlling the leakage transformer used with the proposed system. This improved circuit employs a 3 electrode - type and Ring Blower. This improved circuit system has many advantages compared with the conventional SMPS such as simple design requirement, easy implementation, high reliability, low switching loss, and consequently high efficiency. As a result, the maximun output was 16W at duty-ratio of 92%, total gas mixture of $CO_2$ : $N_2$ : He = 1 : 9 : 15, total pressure of 15torr.

  • Diesel emission control is being addressed worldwide to help preserve the global environment. This paper mainly deals with the effects of oxidation catalysts to reduce emissions from the automotive heavy-duty diesel engine. Two types of the oxidation catalyst with different kinds of precious material were used. An 11 litter displacement diesel engine with turbocharger was operated to evaluate DOC with various engine speed, load conditions under D-13 mode cycle. We could propose the detail emission data of an automotive heavy-duty diesel engine and the characteristics of the conversion efficiency of the DOC under the D-13 mode. It was found that the mean conversion efficiencies of CO and THC were 49.7% and 61% under the D-13 mode test, respectively.

  • Since June 25th 1950, the beginning of the cold war (Korean war), Korean peninsula is still in a state of war. Officially South and North Korean government call a truceafter three years from the beginning day, however both countries are still having several combats in these days. So every Korean citizen male has duty for serving military duty and this lasts even after the serving regular military force, as reserved military. Although South Korea is very small country, the size of military is very large so informing all reserved military takes some time. Since this nation is confronting the enemy and considering the global potential threat, South Korean military needs expedite informing system to call up the reserved military to active duty. In this project, the current informing system has been analyzed and compared with the new method which is using social network service such as Twitter. However mobilization order is very critical. So in our new model there are two ways combined. Using twitter to inform and then use traditional ways to finish the order. This method will provide more efficient and accurate way to cover the call ups.

  • The modularized equalizers normally use additional components among the modules in the long series-connected lithium-ion battery string. In these approaches, the overall systems are heavy, bulky, and high-priced. Furthermore, the losses related to additional components decrease the system efficiency. To avoid these problems, a modularized equalizer, which has no additional components among the modules, is required. This paper proposes a novel control scheme using the magnetizing energy of the multi-winding transformer for the module equalization. In this scheme, the high duty cycle is applied to the module where the voltage is higher than the reference voltage and the low duty cycle is applied to the module where the voltage is lower than the reference voltage. Due to the different duty cycle, more electric charges are transferred from high voltage module to the low voltage module during the turn-off switching interval. Using the proposed control scheme, the equalizer system does not suffer from the size, cost, and loss related to the modularization. The experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed modularized equalizer.

  • This paper is the result of a research on hybrid tuning technology developed to improve the actual fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of in-use light-duty diesel trucks. In this study, a hybrid powertrain was constructed by inserting an electric motor between the diesel engine and manual transmission of an internal combustion engine vehicle and installing a battery. To verify the safety, a test was conducted based on the Korean tuning regulations. In particular, since there has been no case of tuning an internal combustion engine vehicle into a hybrid vehicle in Korea, it was necessary to carry out all procedures to receive tuning approval. The approval process consists of a technical review, safety verification test, and application for tuning approval. As a result, the test vehicle was approved for tuning because both the technical review and vehicle test results were suitable. Therefore, this study confirmed the safety of diesel hybrid tuning technology, and laid the foundation for the research and development of technologies to tune into an eco-friendly vehicle as well as the activation of related industries.

  • Hydrogen utilization in the transportation sector, which relies on fossil fuels, can significantly reduce greenhouse gas by using to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and its adoption depends performance of hydrogen refueling station. The present study developed a model to simulate the back-to-back filling process of heavy duty hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at hydrogen refueling stations using a cascade method. And its quantitatively evaluated hydrogen refueling station performance by simulating various mass flow rates and storage tank capacity combinations, analyzing vehicle state of charge (SOC) of vehicles. In the cascade refueling system, the capacity of the high-pressure storage tank was found to have the greatest impact on the reduction of filling time and improvement of efficiency.

Efficiency Improvement of HBT Class E Power Amplifier by Tuning-out Input Capacitance

  • This paper demonstrates an efficiency improvement of the class E power amplifier (PA) by tuning-out the input capacitance ($C_{IN}$) of the power HBT with a shunt inductance. In order to obtain high output power, the PA needs the large emitter size of a transistor. The larger the emitter size, the higher the parasitic capacitance. The parasitic $C_{IN}$ affects the distortion of the voltage signal at the base node and changes the duty cycle to decrease the PA's efficiency. Adopting the L-C resonance, we obtain a remarkable efficiency improvement of as much as 7%. This PA exhibits output power of 29 dBm and collector efficiency of 71% at 1.9 GHz.

An Energy-Efficient Asynchronous Sensor MAC Protocol Design for Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크를 위한 에너지 효율적인 비동기 방식의 센서 MAC 프로토콜 설계)

  • Synchronization MAC Protocol such as S-MAC and T-MAC utilize duty cycling technique which peroidically operate wake-up and sleep state for reducing energy consumption. But synchronization MAC showed low energy efficiency because of additional control packets. For better energy consumption, Asychronization MAC protocols are suggested. For example, B-MAC, and X-MAC protocol adopt Low Power Listening (LPL) technique with CSMA algorithm. All nodes in these protocols joining a network with independent duty cycle schedules without additional synchronization control packets. For this reason, asynchronous MAC protocol improve energy efficiency. In this study, a low-power MAC protocol which is based on X-MAC protocol for wireless sensor network is proposed for better energy efficiency. For this protocol, we suggest preamble numbering, and virtual-synchronization technique between sender and receive node. Using TelosB mote for evaluate energy efficiency.
