  • This paper describes a Delay Locked Loop (DLL) with low supply voltage and wide lock range for Synchronous DRAM which employs Double Data Rate (DDR) technique for faster data transmission. To obtain high resolution and fast lock-on time, a new type of phase detector is designed. The new counter and lock indicator structure are suggested based on the Dual-clock dual-data Flip Flop (DCDD FF). The DCDD FF reduces the size of counter and lock indicator by about 70%. The delay line is composed of coarse and fine units. By the use of fast phase detector, the coarse delay line can detect minute phase difference of 0.2 nsec and below. Aided further by the new type of 3-step vernier fine delay line, this DLL circuit achieves unprecedented timing resolution of 25psec. This DLL spans wide locking range from 500MHz to 500MHz and generates high-speed clocks with fast lock-on time of less than 5 clocks. When designed using 0.25 um CMOS technology with 1.8V supply voltage, the circuit consumes 32mA at 500MHz locked condition. This circuit can be also used for other applications as well, such as synchronization of high frequency communication systems.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy dual method for analyzing long-term transmission system expansion planning problem considering ambiguities of the power system using fuzzy lineal programming. Transmission expansion planning problem can be formulated integer programming or linear programming with minimization total cost subject to reliability (load balance). A long-term expansion planning problem of a grid is very complex, which have uncertainties fur budget, reliability criteria and construction time. Too much computation time is asked for actual system. Fuzzy set theory can be used efficiently in order to consider ambiguity of the investment budget (economics) for constructing the new transmission lines and the delivery marginal rate (reliability criteria) of the system in this paper. This paper presents formulation of fuzzy dual method as first step for developing a fuzzy Ford-Fulkerson algorithm in future and demonstrates sample study. In application study, firstly, a case study using fuzzy integer programming with branch and bound method is presented for practical system. Secondly, the other case study with crisp Ford Fulkerson is presented.

  • A tapped delay line time-to-digital converter (TDC) can be easily implemented using internal carry chains in a field-programmable gate array, and hence, its use is widespread. However, the tapped delay line TDC suffers from performance degradation because of differences in the delay times of dedicated carry chains. In this paper, a dual edge measurement method is proposed instead of a typical step signal to the delay cell to compensate for the performance degradation caused by wide-delay cells in carry chains. By applying a pulse of a fixed width as an input to the carry chains and using the time information between the up and down edges of the signal pulse, the timing accuracy can be increased. Two dedicated carry chain sites are required for the dual edge measurements. By adopting the proposed dual edge measurement method, the average delay widths of the two carry chains were improved by more than 35%, from 17.3 ps and 16.7 ps to 11.2 ps and 10.1 ps, respectively. In addition, the maximum delay times were improved from 41.4 ps and 42.1 ps to 20.1 ps and 20.8 ps, respectively.

  • Thermoforming is one of the most versatile and economical processes available for the manufacturing polymer products. The drawback of thermoforming is difficult to get uniform thickness of final products. For the distribution of thickness strongly depends on the temperature distribution of sheet, the adjustment of heater power is very important In this paper, an optimization study for getting uniform temperature distribution was carried out using dual optimization steps. At first, the steady state optimal distribution of heater power is searched by numerical optimization to get uniform temperature of sheet surface. In the second step, time-dependent optimal heater inputs have been found out to decrease the temperature difference through the direction of thickness using Rseponse Surface Method and D-optimal method. The optimization results show that the time-dependent optimal heater power distribution gives acceptable uniform sheet temperature in the field of forming temperature..

  • An unstructured hybrid mesh flow solver has been developed for the simulations of three dimensional steady and unsteady incompressible flow fields. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with an artificial compressibility method were discretized by using a node-based finite-volume method. For the unsteady time-accurate computation, a dual-time stepping method was adopted to satisfy a divergence free flow field at each physical time step. The one equation Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model has been adopted to solve the high-Reynolds number flow fields. This method has been applied to calculate the steady flow fields around submarine configurations and unsteady flow fields around a 3-D infinite cylinder.

  • Resource allocation based on quantized feedback plays a critical role in wireless mesh networks with a time division multiple access (TDMA) physical layer. In this study, a resource allocation problem was formulated based on quantized feedback for TDMA wireless mesh networks that minimize the total transmission power. Three steps were taken to solve the optimization problem. In the first step, the codebook of the power, rate and equivalent channel quantization threshold was designed. In the second step, the timeslot allocation criterion was deduced using the primal-dual method. In the third step, a resource allocation scheme was developed based on quantized feedback using the stochastic optimization tool. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme not only reduces the total transmission power, but also has the advantage of quantized feedback.

  • In this paper, it is proposed the implementation of face authentication system based on real-time image processing. We described the process implementing the two steps for real-time face authentication system. At first face detection steps, we describe the face detection by using feature of wavelet transform, LoG operator and hausdorff distance matching. In the second step we describe the new dual-line principal component analysis(PCA) for real-time face recognition. It is combines horizontal line to vertical line so as to accept local changes of PCA. The proposed system is affected a little by the video size and resolution. And then simulation results confirm the effectiveness of out system and demonstrate its superiority to other conventional algorithm. Finally, the possibility of performance evaluation and real-time processing was confirmed through the implementation of face authentication system.

  • For study on the unsteady blockage effect, flows around a rotationally oscillating circular cylinder with relatively low forcing frequency in closed test-section wind tunnels have been numerically investigated by solving compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical scheme is based on a node-based finite-volume method with the Roe's flux-difference splitting and an implicit time-integration method coupled with dual time-step sub-iteration. The computed results of the oscillating cylinder in the test section showed that the fluctuations of lift and drag are augmented by the blockage effects. The drag further increases because of low base pressure. The pressure on the test section wall shows the harmonics having the oscillating and the shedding frequencies contained in the blockage effect.

  • For study on the unsteady wall interference effect, flows around a forced oscillating airfoil in closed test-section wind tunnels have been numerically investigated by solving compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical scheme is based on a node-based finite-volume method with the Roe's flux-difference splitting and an implicit time-integration method coupled with dual time-step sub-iteration. The Spalart-Allmaras one-equation model is employed for the turbulence effect. The computed results of the oscillating airfoil having a thin wake showed that the lift curve slope is increased and the magnitude of hysteresis loop is reduced by the interference effects. Since the vortex around the airfoil is generated and convected downstream faster than the free-air condition, the phase of lift, drag and pitching moment coefficients was shifted. The pressure on the test section wall shows harmonic terms having the oscillating frequency contained in the wail effect.

  • An unstructured hybrid mesh flow solver has been developed for the simulation of three-dimensional steady and unsteady incompressible flow fields. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with an artificial compressibility method were discretized by using a node-based finite-volume method. For the unsteady time-accurate computation, a dual-time stepping method was adopted to satisfy a divergence-free flow field at each physical time step. An implicit time integration method with local time stepping was implemented to accelerate the convergence in the pseudo-time sub-iteration procedure. The one-equation Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model has been adopted to solve high-Reynolds number flow fields. The flow solver was parallelized to minimize the CPU time and to overcome the computational overhead. This method has been applied to calculate steady and unsteady flow fields around submarine configurations and a 3-D infinite cylinder. Validations were made by comparing the predicted results with those of experiments or other numerical results. It was demonstrated that the present method is efficient and robust for the prediction of steady and unsteady incompressible flow fields.
