Modeling of Grade Change Operations in Paper Mills

  • In this work we developed the closed-loop model of a paper machine during grade change with the intention to provide a reliable dynamic model to be used in the model-based grade change control scheme. During the grade change, chemical and physical characteristics of paper process change with time. It is very difficult to represent these characteristics on-line by using physical process models. In this work, the wet circulation part and the drying section were considered as a single process and closed-loop identification technique was used to develop the grade change model. Comparison of the results of numerical simulations with mill operation data demonstrates the effectiveness of the model identified.

  • In order to prevent the environmental pollution, the dryers are commonly used to treat sludge that one of sewages is polluting the quality of water. Generally, the drying method is various as to the property of material and use. Rotary dryer is a good apparatus to treat them. It is the way that is to make substance transmission and heat using hot air between sludge particle and heated gas. In this paper, we developed a 3-pass rotary dryer for a design program for the 3-pass rotary dryer with various conditions. The working conditions of dryer are a raw sludge feed rate, input & output water content and operation time etc.

  • Expression is on operation of separating liquid from solid liquid mixtures which has long been used on a universal scale in widely divergent fields. In fruit pulps processing and fermentation industries. removal of a portion of the liquid in filler cake is essential to the maximum yields of products. In sewage sludge treatments, dewatering of filter cakes is important to disposal by incineration. transportation. and landfill. In the chemical process industries, drying of wet cakes increases cost, and it is desirable to eliminate as much liquor as possible by non-thermal methods. This paper is mainly concerned with the development of a simplified equation for constant-pressure expression.

우리나라 벼의 생산과정에서의 에너지사용량 추정 (Energy Consumption Pattern for Rice Production in Korea)

  • This study was conducted in order to figure out the energy consumption pattern in rice production system of Korea, with literature investigation focused on energy requirement in rice production system in worldwide. The investigation reveals that 24,994 MJ/ha was needed to produce 4,500kg of rice production or 5.55 MJ/kg was consumed. The major enegry consumptions are resulted from the application of nitrogen fertilizer, fuel for farm machinery, and farm machinery embodied energy, which showed somewhat different energy consumption pattern than that of the developed country, like, U.S.A. Based on the machinery chosen in this investigation, it was found that 32.7% of the fuel energy, 2,431.8MJ, was consumed in drying operation, 32.2%, 2.402MJ, in tillage and land preparation. 25.8%, 1.923.6MJ in harvest. A linear relationship was found in pre harvest energy input and output of rice production.

  • In this study, the specimens of cement clinker minerals such as 80C3-S-15C4AF-5C3A added various blending materials were immersed in artificial seawater. In order to ascertain the effect of SO3 and blending materials on seawater resistance of the specimens, the acceleration experiment in the artificial seawater was carried out by repeating of immersion and drying operation periodically. As inner part of the specimen immersed in artificial seawater, Friedel's salt was produced by reaction with Cl ion. In outer part of the specimen, gypsum and ettringite were mainly formed. With the increase of SO3 content in the specimen the formation of ettringite was increased and Frieldel's salt in inner part was decreased. Total pore volume of the specimens was increased according to the amount of Cl ion penetrated and Mg(OH)2 leached in the solution.

  • Particle - bound water changes the physical and chemical properties of aerosol particles, such as size and light scattering properties. Consequently, it is necessary to remove water vapor from ambient aerosols before aerosol particles are sized and counted. Silicon gel diffusion dryer is commonly employed for this purpose. However, it can not be operated continuously While in operation, silicon gel becomes progressively more loaded with water and must periodically be regenerated by drying off the water. (omitted)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the pulpal responses to acid etching of dentine. Total 72 class V cavaties' were prepared on the healthy permanent teeth from 6 dogs, and were divided into 4 groups. These were filled with filling materials after acid etching with each etchant for 1 min. Control group ; ZOE filling without acid etching. Group 1: Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 2: Drying with hot air and Zinc oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 3: Scotchbond application and silux filling. Group 4: Silux filling. The dogs were sacrificed after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks and 6 weeks following operation. The specimens were routinely prepared and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin. Followings were the results obtained through microscopic examination. 1. There was mostly severe pulpal responses in case of Silux filling after acid etching of dentine. 2. The pulpal responses of Silux filling after acid etching and application of Scotch bond group were more severe compared to Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but less severe compared to Silux filling group after acid etching of dentine. 3. The pulpal responses of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group were similar to those of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling after drying with hot air group. 4. There was slight pulpal responses in early stage in case of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but recovered to normal state soon after.

개량 곳간용 벼이송장치(移送裝置) 개발(開發) (Development of a Rough Rice Handling Equipment for In-Bin Drying and Storage System)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a grain handling system for loading, unloading and transporting of rough rice stored at the in-bin drying and storage (IBDS) developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST). A mechanized Fain handling system consisted of a portable auger and a gate was developed and tested. The test results can be summarized as the following: 1) The loading capacity of the handling system developed is $16.2m^3/h$ (8.3 ton/h) for the Indica type rice and $13.0m^3/h$(7.3 ton/h) for the Japonica type. It is greater than that of manual handling as much as 2.5 - 2.7 times. 2) The unloading capacity of the handling system developed is $16.0m^3/h$(8.2 ton/h) for the Indica type rice and $12.6m^3/h$(7.0 ton/h) for the Japonica type. It is greater than that of the manual as much as 4.7 - 5.5 times. 3) For 3-ton capacity of the storage, the loading and unloading can be performed for 20 and 30 minutes by one man operation of equipment. while 60 and 120 minute for the manual of 2 men, respectively. 4) The volumetric efficiency of the system developed is 0.42 - 0.54 and the power efficiency is 4.0 - 4.4. 5) The break-even quantity of the handling system developed is about 38.6 ton($68.7m^3$) of rough rice and the initial investment for the system would be returned within five years for the most owners of the KAIST IBDS system.

우리나라 제사공장의 경영분석 (Analysis of the Korean Filatures Management)

  • 1968년도 우리나라 제사공장경영실태조사분석결과 다음과 같은 성적을 얻었다. 1. 공장당 1 일평균구견량은 약 10,800kg, 선견량은 105kg/인이였으며 건견량은 8683kg/일이며 42%가 저온건견되고 있다. 2. 자견기의 길이(m)별 자견능력은 50g/min이나 대인 자견능력은 시설규모가 큰 공장에서 적었다. 3. 대당 월간생사생산량은 6,000kg내외이고 대규모공장에서는 대당 월간생산량이 적은 경향이였다. 4. 규모별 생사 kg당 인건비는 소규모공장에서 제일 높았고 200~300대공장에서 제일 적었다. 5. 공장별로 분석한 6가지 요인중 다조조사인 경우 조사공정의 인건비가 제일 높았으므로 생사생산비의 절감은 자동화에 의한 조사인건비를 감소시켜야 할 것이다. 6. 제시된 6가지 요인이 차지하는 인건비는 약 46%가 상관하고 나머지 54%는 다른 요인이 생산비를 영향하고 있는 것으로 추정된다.

  • To determine the sterility of the prepared allogeneic bone of the human, culture of the allografts prior to implantation was performed on fresh-frozen and freeze-dried bone. Before the use of allografts to the patients, it must be confirmed about the sterility, cellular cytotoxicity, immune reaction, and osteoinductive potential as a biomaterials. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons demand for allograft bone will be increased in the future. Wonkwang Bone Bank attempted to meet this demand, has performed series of experimental study on the allograft bone of the Koreans to evaluate the physical and chemical suitability of the bone since the surgeons applications will have broadened from benign cystic lesions to fracture malunions and non-unions, large segmental defects, and whole-bone allorgrafts after tumor surgery. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Freeze-drying(FD) only shoed some bactericidal effects of the normal and osteo bone but in cases of performing EO gas sterilization, the FD effects was not clear. 2. The fact that FD has little effect than the EO gas sterilization on normal bone postulated that the presence of microbiota may be due to an operation and bone processing procedure. 3. FD and EO gas sterilization had a remarkable effect on the osteo bone. 4. The sterilization effect were EO gas, Freeze-drying, Fresh-Frozen with descending order. But all sterilization method were not complete to preserve and implant allograft bone. We are now performing further continuous study on the radiation and chemical sterilization procedure to make safe and complete allograft bone.
