The piezoelectric thin film sensor can be used to interpret variations in structural and material properties, e.g. for structural integrity monitoring and assessment. To illustrate one of this potential benefit, PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) film sensors are used for monitoring impact damage in Gr/Ep composite panels. Both PVDF film sensors and strain gages are attached to the surface of Gr/Ep specimens. A series of impact tests at various impact energy by changing impact mass the height are performed on the instrumented drop weight impact tester. The sensor responses are carefully examined to predict the onset of impact damage such as indentation, matrix cracking, and delamination, etc. Test results show that the particular waveforms of sensor signals implying the damage initiation and development are detected above the damage initiation impact energy. As expected, the PVDF film sensor is found to be more sensitive to impact damage initiation event than the strain gage.
SMC(Sheet molding compound) composite is mainly used for forming of vehicle's body. Considering the car accident, it is essential to research the impact behavior and characteristics of materials. It is difficult to identify them because the impact process is completed in a short time. Therefore, the impact damage analysis using FE(finite element) model is required for the impact behavior. The impact damage analysis requires the parameters for the damage model of SMC composite. In this paper, ANN(artificial neural network) technique is applied to obtain the parameters for the damage model of SMC composite. The surrogate model by ANN was constructed with the result in LS-DYNA. By comparing the absorption energy in drop weight test with the result of ANN model, the optimized parameters were obtained. The acquired parameters were validated by comparing the results of the experiment, the FE model and the ANN model.

It is well known that the standard penetration test (SPT) has been used in all over the world to get geotechnical properties of the ground. However, it is difficult to apply the SPT to the dense sand, gravel, weathered rock, etc. For the application of the SPT in these grounds, it is necessary to change in the diameter and the impact energy of the SPT. For the improvement of site investigation technology, Large Penetration Testing device (KICT-type LPT) was developed and applied to the in situ condition. The drop height and weight of the hammer in developed system were decided as 760 mm and 150 kg, respectively. Semi-auto hammer drop system identical with KS F2307 and JI A1259S was adopted. And the developed sampler has the inner diameter of 63 mm and the length of 500 mm with the adjustment of energy ratio to the SPT of 1.5. The hammer energy level was measured during the performance of the KICT-type LPT using SPI system (quality control system from driven piles).

In this study, finite element analysis of Carbon-Steel Laminates with different layup pattern was conducted to verify similarity to the results of previous studies and to develop the effective model for low-velocity impact analysis. As in the experiment, Finite element analysis of the Fiber metal laminates (FMLs) with five different lamination patterns was carried out, and the impact resistance of the FMLs was confirmed by comparing the energy absorption ratio. The FMLs showed the higher energy absorption ratio than the mild steel having the same thickness, and it was confirmed that all the FMLs had the high energy absorption ratio over than 96%. In addition, the low-velocity impact analysis model proposed in this study can be effectively used to study composite forms and automotive structures.
The purpose of this study was to determine the biomechanical effect of wearing carbon nanotube-based insole on cushioning and muscle tuning during drop landing. Twenty male university students(age: $21.2{\pm}1.5yrs$, height: $175.4{\pm}4.7cm$, weight: $70.2{\pm}5.8kg$) who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited as the subjects. Average axial strain, average shear strain, inversion angle, linear velocity, angular velocity, vertical GRF and loading rate were determined for each trial. For each dependent variable, a one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) with repeated measures was performed to test if significant difference existed among different three conditions(p<.05). The results showed that Average axial strain of line 4 was significantly less in CNT compared with EVA and PU during IP phase. The average shear strain was less in CNT compared with EVA and PU during other phases. The inversion angle was increased in CNT compared with EVA and PU during all phase. In linear velocity, angular velocity, vertical GRF and loading rate, there were no significant difference between the three groups. This result seems that fine particle of carbon nanotube couldn't make geometric form which can absolve impact force by increasing density through eliminating voids of forms. Thus, searching for methods that keep voids of forms may play a pivotal role in developing of insole. This has led to suggestions of the need for further biomechanical analysis to these factors.

Recently, the applications of carbon fiber have been broader than ever when it comes to such industrials as automobiles, ships, aerospace, civil engineering and architecture because of their lightweight-ness and high mechanical properties. This study analyzed mechanical properties and flexural behavior of carbon fiber reinforced cement composites(CFRC) with different fiber contents and fiber lengths, and also impact resistance by natural drop test on mortar specimens was compared and examined. In addition, contents of carbon fiber(CF) were varied by 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0% and 3.0%. Fiber lengths was used for 6 mm and 12 mm, respectively. As a result of the test, the flow value was very disadvantageous in terms of fluidity due to the carbon fiber ball phenomenon, and the unit weight was slightly reduced. In particular, the compressive strength was decreased with increasing carbon fiber contents. On the other hand, the flexural strength was the highest with 12 mm fiber length and 2% fiber content. As the results of the impact resistance test, the specimens of plain mortar takes about 2~3 times to final fracture, while the specimens of CFRC is somewhat different depending on the increase of the fiber contents. However, when the fiber length is 12 mm and the fiber content is 2%, the impact resistance was the highest.

There is a growing need to introduce advanced pressure vessel steels with higher strength and toughness for the optimizatiooCn of the design and construction of longer life and larger capacity nuclear power plants. SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steels have superior strength and fracture toughness, compared to SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel. Therefore, the application of SA508 Gr.4N low alloy steel could be considered to satisfy the strength and toughness required in advanced nuclear power plants. The purpose of this study is to characterize the microstructure and mechanical properties of SA508 Gr.4N low alloy steels. 1 ton ingot of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was fabricated by vacuum induction melting followed by forging, quenching, and tempering. The predominant microstructure of the SA508 Gr.4N model alloy is tempered martensite having small packet and fine Cr-rich carbides. The yield strength at room temperature was 540MPa, and it was decreased with an increase of test temperature while DSA phenomenon occurred at around $288^{\circ}C$. Overall transition property of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was much better than SA508 Gr.3 low alloy steel. The index temperature, $T_{41J}$, of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was $-132^{\circ}C$ in Charpy impact tests, and reference nil-ductility transition temperature, $RT_{NDT}$ of $-105^{\circ}C$ was obtained from drop weight tests. From the fracture toughness tests performed in accordance with the ASTM standard E1921 Master curve method, the reference temperature, $T_0$ was $-147^{\circ}C$, which was improved more than $60^{\circ}C$ compared to SA508 Gr.3 low alloy steels.

Objective : The aim of this study to investigate the normal values of erythropoietin (EPO) and neuroprotective effects of quercetin and mannitol on EPO and hematocrit levels after acute severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rat model. Methods : A weight-drop impact acceleration model of TBI was used on 40 male Wistar rats. The animals were divided into sham (group I), TBI (group II), TBI+quercetin (50 mg/kg intravenously) (group III), and TBI+mannitol (1 mg/kg intravenously) (group IV) groups. The malondialdehyde, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, EPO, and hematocrit levels were measured 1 and 4 hour after injury. Two-way repeated measures analysis of variance and Tukey's test were used for statistical analysis. Results : The malondialdehyde levels decreased significantly after administration of quercetin and mannitol compared with those in group II. Catalase and glutathione peroxidase levels increased significantly in groups III and IV. Serum EPO levels decreased significantly after mannitol but not after quercetin administration. Serum hematocrit levels did not change significantly after quercetin and mannitol administration 1 hour after trauma. However, mannitol administration decreased serum hematocrit levels significantly after 4 hour. Conclusion : This study suggests that quercetin may be a good alternative treatment for TBI, as it did not decrease the EPO levels.
In the present study, a series of physical experiments and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of mode I and mixed-mode I/II cracks on the fracture modes and stability of roadway tunnel models. The experiments and simulations incorporated different inclination angle flaws under both static and dynamic loads. The quasi-static and dynamic testing were conducted by using an electro-hydraulic servo control device and drop weight impact system (DWIS), and the failure process was simulated by using rock failure process analysis (RFPA) and AUTODYN software. The stress intensity factor was also calculated to evaluate the stability of the flawed roadway tunnel models by using ABAQUS software. According to comparisons between the test and numerical results, it is observed that for flawed roadways with a single radical crack and inclination angle of 45°, the static and dynamic stability are the lowest relative to other angles of fractured rock masses. For mixed-mode I/II cracks in flawed roadway tunnel models under dynamic loading, a wing crack is produced and the pre-existing cracks increase the stress concentration factor in the right part of the specimen, but this factor will not be larger than the maximum principal stress region in the roadway tunnel models. Additionally, damage to the sidewalls will be involved in the flawed roadway tunnel models under static loads.
