Stability Improvement of a V/f Controlled Induction Motor Drive System using a Dynamic Current Compensator (다이나믹 전류보상기를 이용한 V/f 제어 유도전동기 드라이브 시스템의 안정도 향상)

  • This paper proposes the novel V/f control method to improve the stability of a V/f controlled induction motor drive system. The conventional V/f control method used in the proposed V/f control method is a vector-based method that is slightly different from the existing conventional V/f control method. The proposed control method uses a dynamic current compensator to improve the stability of a V/f controlled induction motor drive system. This proposed method is easy to implement and completely eliminates the motor oscillation phenomenon causing the instability of a V/f controlled induction motor drive system, especially when the system is driven near the resonant frequency in steady-state with light load. Additionally, this paper analyzes theoretically the instability of a V/f controlled induction motor drive system and shows the validity of the Proposed V/f control method through simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper presents the sensorless drive method for mono inverter dual parallel (MIDP) surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive system. MIDP motor drive system is a technique that can reduce the cost of the multi motor driving system. To maximize this merit of the MIDP motor drive system, the sensorless technique is essential to eliminate the position sensors. This paper adopts an appropriate sensorless method for MIDP SPMSM drive system, which uses the reduced order observer and phase locked loop (PLL) to reduce the calculation burden. The I-F control method is implemented for start-up and low speed operation. The validity and performance of the proposed algorithm are shown via experiments with 600-W SPMSMs.

  • In this paper, we introduce embedding drive synchronigation method using SC-CNN. SC-CNN provide us a good method to separate interconnected state variables of a system respectively and to make it possible to change current component to voltage component in the state variables. Using this advantage, We suggest another synchronization method called Embedding Drive Synchronization. Proposed Embedding Drive Synchronization change general drive synchronization method a little bit. we put transmitted signal between into the input of the state variables of the received part, not entirely replacing it. and we showed it proved.

  • When a fault relating to the urgent alarm occurs, we must prevent control rods from dropping and make one of two grippers in Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) grip the drive rod taking a control rod assembly. To enhance the reliability of holding control rods, we order two grippers to hold the drive rod. This action is called the double holding. In the middle of the movement of the drive rod, the latching of the drive rod can cause friction between a gripper and the drive rod. This state may give damage to both the gripper and the drive rod. In this paper, we have devised the method which can have two grippers hold the drive rod more stably, without damaging the equipment.

If a gripper with any problem is ordered to grip the drive rod, the gripper which cannot latch the rod stably will fail to take the rod. On the purpose of escaping this bad case, we order two grippers to hold the drive rod and enhance the reliability of holding control rods. This action is called the double hold. Double DOF control of an electromechanical integrated toroidal drive

  • The electromechanical integrated toroidal drive is a new drive system. For the control of the drive, the torque fluctuation and the steady-state errors should be removed and the fast response to the input change should be achieved. In this paper, the torque fluctuation of the drive system is analyzed and expressed as Fourier series forms. The transfer function of the torque control for the drive system is derived from its electromechanical coupled dynamic equations. A 2-DOF control method is used to control the drive system. Using definite parameter relationship of the 2-DOF control system, the steady errors of the torque control for the drive system is removed. Influences of the drive parameters on the control system are investigated. Using proper drive parameters, the response time of the control system is reduced and the quick torque response of the drive system is realized. Using a compensated input voltage, the torque fluctuation of the drive system is removed as well. The compensated input voltage can be obtained from the torque fluctuation equation and the transfer function. These research results are useful for designing control system of the new drive.

  • The model based method for energy saving of the separately excited DC motor drive system is proposed in the paper. The accurate power loss model is necessary for this method. Therefore, the adaptive tabu search algorithm is applied to identify the parameters in the power loss model. The field current values for minimum power losses at any load torques and speeds are calculated by the proposed method. The rule based controller is used to control the field current and speed of the motor. The experimental results confirm that the model based method can successfully provide the energy saving for separately excited DC motor drive. The maximum value of the energy saving is 48.61% compared with the conventional drive method.

  • The base/gate drive suppression method proposed by Joshi and Bose is that which detects the output current polarity of the leg and, according to the polarity, suppresses the base/gate drive of one of the ore switching devices of the leg. This method has the merit that it does not have the conventional dead time problem, reduces the power loss of the driving circuit and others. But this method has difficulty in implementation. In this paper, a new base/gate drive suppression method by detecting not the output current polarity but the output voltage polarity is proposed. The proposed method is easier to implement than Joshi and Bose's method.

  • In this paper, a modified microstep drive of PM step motor is presented. The open-loop drive of a step motor is attractive and widely accepted in applications of speed and position controls. However, the performance of the step motor is limited under the open-loop drive. The closed-loop control is advantages over the open-loop control not only in that step failure never occurs but that the motion is much quicker and smoother. However, a high resolution sensor is needed for detecting position and speed. The modified microstep drive is constructed as a microstep drive with speed feedback. The advantages of the proposed method is that the controller can be designed by a low resolution sensor and is simpler than other closed-loop controller. A concept of vector control is used for verifying the proposed scheme. Simulations show the performance of the proposed method and a comparison with a classic drive method.

  • High-speed feed drive systems have been widely used in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries. Specifications for high-speed systems require more advanced capabilities than conventional feed drive systems. It is necessary to devise special design concepts to achieve the level of performance for high-speed feed drive systems. In this paper, an integrated design method is proposed for high-speed feed drive systems in which the interactions between mechanical and electrical subsystems ought to be considered simultaneously during the design process. Based on the integrated design method, a nonlinear optimal design procedure of mechanical subsystems considering the Abbe and radius errors is accomplished through the design process of electrical subsystems satisfying the control stability and the saturation condition of actuators as well as the relative stability. Both mechanical and electrical parameters are considered as design variables. Simulations and numerical case studies show that the integrated design method of high-speed feed drive systems creates results satisfying the desired performances of mechatronic systems.
