The Effects of the Drinking-Reduction Program Adopting Transtheoretical and Leisure Models on Problem Drinking Behavior and Cognition (범이론과 여가모형을 적용한 절주프로그램이 문제음주행위와 인지에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study is to examine the effects of the drinking-reduction program that utilizes transtheoretical model and leisure ability model on the problem drinking behavior, alcohol outcome expectancy, and abstinence self-efficacy of. problem drinkers at workplaces. Method: The subjects consisted of 54 male problem drinkers who scored over 12 points in the AUDIT-K with 23 persons in the experimental group and 31 persons in the control group. The research results were analyzed using the SAS program with Chi-square test, t-test, repeated ANOVA, and post-hoc comparison. Results: 1) The experimental group showed a significantly lower score in problem drinking behavior than the control group. 2) The experimental group showed a significantly lower score in alcohol outcome expectancy than the control group. 3) The experimental group showed a significantly higher score in abstinence self-efficacy than the control group. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the drinking-reduction program effectively reduces the drinking behavior of problem drinkers at workplaces, reduces alcohol outcome expectancy, and enhances abstinence self-efficacy. Accordingly, it is considered that a drinking-reduction program can be a useful nursing intervention method for problem drinkers at workplaces to reduce drinking and improve the quality of life.

The Relationships among Drinking Behaviors, Sober Motivation, and Drinking Problems of Citizens living in an Urban Area (일부 도시지역 주민의 음주행태와 절주동기, 문제음주와의 관계)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify a regional difference among drinking behaviors, sober motivation, and drinking problems. Methods: The subjects included 600 citizens living in two regions, Busan. Descriptive analysis, t-test, correlation, and path analysis were used to confirm the regional difference. Results: The path of drinking method on sober motivation was statistically significant in both regions and drinking attitude was found to be a common factor that weakens an individual's sober motivation. Besides, the path of social networking on sober motivation had a difference in statistical significance between the two regions. Finally, the influence of social networks of District N (comparison region) on sober motivation was statistically significant and stronger than that of District D. Conclusions: A social environment-centered intervention to address drinking problems is essential in District N because of its people's tendency to drink together. On the other hand, an individual-focused intervention is preferred in District D where sober motivation is mainly affected by drinking method and attitude.

Juvenile Drinking and Dietary Habit in High School Students (남녀고등학생의 음주실태와 음주에 따른 식습관 비교)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the drinking status, drinking habit and dietary habit of high school students using anonymous questionnaires. DVS and skipped meal status were obtained by 24 hour recall method. Two hundreds ninety seven of 380 students (78.2%) have experienced the drinking even though 73.7% of them was not addictive. One hundred sixty one students (54.2%) initiated drinking in the middle school, mostly because of ‘peer pressure’ and ‘curiosity’. The most plausible reasons for drinking were ‘for mingling’ and ‘for stress reduction’, and they used to have desire for drinking mostly when felt ‘anger or frustration’ and ‘feel good’. Drinking behavior was significantly different in age of first smoking, drinking history, amount, reason for drinking and desire for drinking between male and female student. There was no significant difference in dietary habits between drinking students and non-drinking students. DVS, skipped meal status, snack preferences and food intake frequency also did not show the significant differences. However, considering that the drinking experience of high school students increased, and drinking experience of female students approached to that of male student, more attention needs to be given to juvenile drinking and its'prevention.

Influences of Level of Alcohol Consumption and Motives for Drinking on Drinking Permissiveness in University Students (대학생의 음주 정도, 음주 동기가 음주 허용도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the risk factors influencing drinking permissiveness in university students. Method: The participants in this descriptive survey on causal relations were 219 students enrolled in university who were selected by convenience sampling. The data collected from April to July, 2005 were used in multiple regression analysis to build a prediction model. Results: Differences in drinking permissiveness according to general characteristics were as follows: gender, drinking frequency, drinking in more than one place each time and frequency of excessive drinking. The relationship between drinking permissiveness and amount of alcohol consumption (drinking frequency/month, amount/each time) showed positive correlations. The relationship between drinking permissiveness and motives to drink (social, enhancement, confirmity, coping motives) also showed positive correlations. The causal factors of drinking permissiveness were social motives, capacity/each time and drinking frequency/month. Conclusion: The findings suggest that board intervention programs should be provided to prevent problems of excessive drinking. It is also recommended that a program be developed that can help control the variables identified in this study along with follow up study to verify the model.

  • According to the population increase and industrialization, the drinking water source, Han River and other sources, are contaminated by industrial wastewater, domestic sewage, and agricultural discharges. Among the contaminants, and toxic substances, pesticides is most interesting items (or human health Our drinking water has some problems of THMs, Fe, odor, etc., $o many people use groundwater or bottled water. But sometimes there are many reports about groundwater contamination owing to the agricultural chemicals, waste disposal, industrial wastewater. In America, there are about 45,000 groundwave supply company and in korea about 20% of total population are using groundwave as drinking water source. In America, studies about SEE is increasing Instead of liquid- liquid extraction method, because of many advantages of SEE methods. Author tried to investigate SPE methods in the spiked water samples to compare with liquid- liquid extraction method and got the following results. The amount of organic solvents which are used In SPE method is less than 1/10 compared with liquid- liquid method, the analytical duration time is shortened, and the ethyl acetate was good fluent among several organic solvents.

Factors Influencing on Drinking Refusal Self-Efficacy among University Students (일 지역 대학생의 음주거부 자기효능감 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing on drinking refusal self-efficacy among university students. Method: The subjects consisted of 228 university students. The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires, which were constructed to include satisfaction of campus life and the DRSEQ-R(Drinking Refusal Self-Efficacy Questionnaire-Revised). Data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC WIN. 12.0 program. Results: The mean score indicating satisfaction of campus life was 3.20, and drinking refusal self-efficacy was 4.36. Satisfaction of campus life was positively correlated with drinking refusal self-efficacy. The gender, social circle, family history of drinking, drinking frequency, drinking quantity, and satisfaction of campus life explained 33.7% of the variance for drinking refusal self-efficacy. Conclusion: The findings suggest that satisfaction of campus life is an important factor for improving drinking refusal self-efficacy in university students. Therefore, strategies should be developed in order to promote drinking refusal self-efficacy and increase satisfaction of campus life in order to prevent drinking problems.

  • The study was carried out to improve and regulate the drinking water quality standard and drinking water quality monitoring substances. For the reliability and safety of finished water, It has been monitored for trace organic and inorganic compounds of 333 in finished water of water treatment plants during 1989 to 2003. As a result of monitoring, 51 compounds were detected from 333 compounds, and it has been regulated the drinking water quality standard of 26 substances and 20 mitoring substance. Improvement and regulation method of the drinking water quality standard was performed by comparing and analyzing with detection concentration, detection frequency, risk assessment and foreign drinking water quality standard.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of pregnant women's experiences with drinking alcohol during first trimester of pregnancy Methods: The data were collected through in-depth interviews of 7 pregnant women who drank alcohol in the first trimester. Giorgi's phenomenological method was used for data analysis. Results: Findings included 6 main themes and 14 themes. The main themes concerning pregnancy and drinking were: 'Open attitude in drinking, History of drinking in family or spouse, Seeking information in how drinking affects pregnancy, Regret not doing planned pregnancy and not quitting drinking before pregnancy, Willing to stop drinking until the child birth, Awareness about importance of preconception care. Conclusion: The results of this study provide a deeper understanding of pregnant women's experiences of drinking alcohol during the first trimester of pregnancy. These results can be used in the development of strategies to prevent drinking alcohol during first trimester and to support preconception care and prenatal care.

The Effect of an Alcohol Education Program on Behavior Related Drinking by the Elderly with Drinking Problems (알코올 교육 프로그램이 음주문제를 가진 노인의 음주관련 지식과 행동에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: In this study, the effects of an alcohol education program for elderly persons with drinking problems and the effects of knowledge of the behavior associated with alcohol use by elderly individuals with drinking problems were evaluated. Method: A single-group repeated study was conducted to evaluate 19 elderly individuals with drinking problems who used the G-city Elderly Welfare Center, with more than eight points in AUDIT results. The changes in drinking knowledge and alcohol behavior following an alcohol education program were evaluated. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed by a Wilcoxon signed rank test. and the relationship between drinking knowledge and changes in alcohol behavior was measured by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: The results indicated that drinking knowledge after conducting education increased significantly(Z=-3.826, p<.001), and that this increased knowledge resulted in significant changes in alcohol behavior(Z=-3.830, p<.001). There was a significantly positive relationship between drinking knowledge and changes in alcohol behavior(r=.464, p=0.013). Conclusion: Alcohol education programs effectively educate the elderly with drinking problems regarding alcohol, which influences their alcohol behavior.

Educational Needs of Drinking Prevention for Primary School Students (초등학생의 음주예방교육 요구)

  • Purpose: To provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention problem through the investigation of the educational needs on drinking of primary students. Method: Subjects were 630 fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in 5 primary schools in Seoul. Data were collected from November to December 2000 by using structured questionnaire. Result: 1) Among the students under inquiry, 41.2% answered the had educational need about drinking. Educational need about drinking was significantly higher in the students with higher mothers educational level than those of with lower ones. 2) With regard to the appropriate class in providing education, 37.3% selected normal class education. 47.3% of the respondents said experiments would be the most effective education method. 61.8% of the students picked school nurses as the most appropriate person in carrying out the education. As for the most effective media for education, 40.3% chose video/television. The most concerning topic was academic achievement with 51.9% of the surveyed. As for the rate of preference in methods of drinking prevention education, Significant differences were shown in the class, teaching method, instructor, media, memory of education and concerning topic according to the gender. Conclusion: The results of the finding suggest that the various programs of drinking prevention education for the primary students should be developed with consider the difference of preference by the grade and the gender.
