  • The network interference gives positive and negative effects to security and QoS simultaneously by disturbing the decoding of receiver and eavesdropper. The transmission of artificial noise enables to indirectly control these contradicting effects. This paper proposed the secrecy enhancement technique via artificial noise with protected zones of transmitter and receiver and investigated its gain by using stochastic geometry. For given arbitrary artificial noise power ratio, we first analyzed connection outage probability and secrecy outage probability for four different scenarios (separated, overlapped, included secrecy protected zones- type A, B) according to distance and size of protected zones of the transmitter and receiver. We then derive the secrecy transmission rate and find the optimal artificial noise power ratio to maximize it. Finally, with numerical examples, we investigate the effects of the system parameters such as size of protected zones of transmitter and receiver on the optimal artificial noise power ratio.

  • Deformations of bridge deck ends on abutments and piers bring about severe problems in track geometry and require maintenance work. In case of concrete slab track, more severe deformation and additional forces on rail and rail supports can be induced by bridge deck deformation, which affect the serviceability of track structure since concrete slab track is much stiffer than ballasted track and the behavior of track structure is integrated with that of bridge deck. In this study, the design variables affecting the serviceability of track structure are selected and the influence level is estimated by a parametric study. As a result, it is found that continuous span is advantageous than simply supported span and the stiffness of bridge bearing and rail fastener as well as the distance between last rail support and bridge bearing are most important parameters.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of a solar high-temperature receiver with heat pipes was investigated by numerical simulation. The concentration ratio of the solar receiver ranges 1000 and the concentrated heat is required to be transported to a certain distance for specific applications. This study deals with internal geometry variation of a solar receiver incorporating high-temperature heat pipe. The isothermal characteristics in the receiver section is of major concern. The diameter of the solar thermal receiver was 120 mm and the length was 400 mm. The angle of receiver end wall was varied between $0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The wall thickness of the heat pipe channel was 4mm and 48 axial channels of the same dimensions were attached to the outer wall of the receiver with even spacing in the circumferential direction. The channels are changed to high-temperature sodium heat pipes. Commercial softwares were employed to deal with the radiative heat transfer inside the receiver cavity and the conduction heat transfer along the channels. The numerical results are compared and analyzed from the view Point of high-temperature solar receiver.

  • In this paper, we present a method which is based on the concept of the rotation of subspaces. This method is highly related to the angle (or distance) between subspaces arising in many applications. An effective procedures is first derived for finding the optimal transformation matrix which rotates one subspace into another as closely as possible in the least squares sense , and then this algorithm is applied to the solution to general direction-of-arrival estimation problem of multiple broadband plane waves which may be a mixture of incoherent, partially coherent or coherent. In this typical application, the rotation of signal subspaces (ROSS) algorithm is effectively developed to achieve the high performance in the active systems for the case in which the noise field remains invariant with the measurement of the array spectral density matrix (or data matrix). It is not uncommon to observe this situation in sonar systems. The advantage of this techniques is not to require the preliminary processing and spatial prefiltering which is used in Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method. Furthermore, the array's geometry is not restricted. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the high performance achieved with this new approach relative to that obtained with Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method for incoherent sources and forward-backward spatial smoothed MUSIC for coherent sources including the signal eigenvector method (SEM).

  • This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical research on the slamming phenomenon. Two experimental techniques were proposed in this study. The traditional free drop tests were carried out. However, the free drop tests done in this study using an LM guide showed excellent repeatability, unlike those of other researchers. The coefficients of variation for the drop test done in this experiment were less than 0.1. The other experimental technique proposed in this study was a novel concept that used a pneumatic cylinder. The pneumatic cylinder could accelerate the specimen over a very short distance from the free surface. As a result, high rates of repeatability were achieved. In the numerical study, the development of in-house code and utilization of commercial code were carried out. The in-house code developed was based on the boundary element method. It is a potential code. This was mostly applied to the computation of the wedge entry problem. The commercial code utilized was FLUENT. Most of the previous slamming research was done under the assumption of a constant body velocity all through the impact process, which is not realistic at all. However, the interaction of a fluid and body were taken into account by employing a user-defined function in this study. The experimental and numerical results were compared. The in-house code based on BEM showed better agreement than that of the FLUENT computation when it cames to the wedge computation. However, the FLUENT proved that it could deal with a very complex geometry while BEM could not. The proposed experimental and numerical procedures were shown to be very promising tools for dealing with slamming problems.

  • In todays security industry, personal identification is also based on biometric. Biometric identification is performed basing on the measurement and comparison of physiological and behavioral characteristics, Biometric for recognition includes voice dynamics, signature dynamics, hand geometry, fingerprint, iris, etc. Iris can serve as a kind of living passport or living password. Iris recognition system is the one of the most reliable biometrics recognition system. This is applied to client/server system such as the electronic commerce and electronic banking from stand-alone system or networks, ATMs, etc. A new algorithm using nonlinear function in recognition process is proposed in this paper. An algorithm is proposed to determine the localized iris from the iris image received from iris input camera in client. For the first step, the algorithm determines the center of pupil. For the second step, the algorithm determines the outer boundary of the iris and the pupillary boundary. The localized iris area is transform into polar coordinates. After performing three times Wavelet transformation, normalization was done using sigmoid function. The converting binary process performs normalized value of pixel from 0 to 255 to be binary value, and then the converting binary process is compare pairs of two adjacent pixels. The binary code of the iris is transmitted to the by server. the network. In the server, the comparing process compares the binary value of presented iris to the reference value in the University database. Process of recognition or rejection is dependent on the value of Hamming Distance. After matching the binary value of presented iris with the database stored in the server, the result is transmitted to the client.

  • Small RFID tag antenna were fabricated on Si substrate and their physical and electrical properties were evaluated. With decreasing the size of tag antenna on Si substrate, small SMD-type RFID tags could be fabricated, which is very useful for PCB tracking. Firstly, tag antenna pattern and the electromagnetic properties were simulated with HFSS. The frequency was 13.56MHz, the line-width and line-gap were modeled in the range of $50{\sim}200{\mu}m$. S parameters, SRF, and Q value were calculated from geometry. When the line-width and line-gap were 100um and the loop-turn was 10, the SRF was 80MHZ and the Q value was ca. 9. When the microstrip antenna pattern of aluminum was fabricated by using DC sputtering, Vpp of ca. 1.6V was obtained when the reader-tag distance was 40mm.

  • In physical engineering, the turbulent flow on the surface roughness is very important. With the welding, design and paint, the hull surface roughness at each stage in the various aspects are important factors to be considered. In this study, the hull surface roughness geometry that was generalized to the PIV was applied to the tank test. The roughness of the surface changed the distance of the interval. Experimental velocity is Re = $1.1{\times}10^4$, Re = $2.0{\times}10^4$ and Re = $2.9{\times}10^4$. The turbulent intensity at the time-average were examined The roughness coefficient occurred with increasing turbulence intensities was stronger. The turbulence intensity away from the roughness in the shape was zero. The variation of turbulence intensity at the experimental flow conditions change was not affected.

  • In this study, the characteristic of a 3-D micro-woven material, which is one of the newly developed periodic open-cell structure, is analyzed through various computational simulations. To increase the accuracy of the numerical simulations, the distance between each directional wire is parameterized using six design variables, and its model geometry is precisely discretized using tetrahedron elements. Using the improved computational model, the material properties of the mechanical, thermal, and fluidic behavior are investigated using commercial software and compared with the previous experimental results. By changing the space between the x- and y-directional wires, a parametric test is performed to determine the tendency of the change in the material properties. In addition, the correlation between two different material properties is investigated using the Ashby chart. The result can further be used in determining the optimal pattern and wire spacing in 3-D micro-woven materials.
