Tin-doped indium oxide(ITO) thin films were deposited on polyethylene terephthalate(PET) at room temperature by oxygen ion beam assisted evaporator system and the effects of oxygen gas flow rate on the properties of room temperature ITO thin films were investigated. Plasma characteristics of the ion gun such as oxygen ions and atomic oxygen radicals as a function of oxygen flow rate were investigated using optical emission spectroscopy(OES). Faraday cup also used to measure oxygen ion density. The increase of oxygen flow rate to the ion gun generally increase the optical transmittance of the deposited ITO up to 6sccm of $O_2$ and the further increase of oxygen flow rate appears to saturate the optical transmittance. In the case of electrical property, the resistivity showed a minimum at 6 sccm of $O_2$ with the increase of oxygen flow rate. Therefore, the improved ITO properties at 6 sccm of $O_2$ appear to be more related to the incorporation of low energy oxygen radicals to deposited ITO film rather than the irradiation of high energy oxygen ions to the substrate. At an optimal deposition condition, ITO thin films deposited on PET substrates showed the resistivity of $6.6{\times}10^{-4}$${\Omega}$ cm and optical transmittance of above 90%.
LED arrays with pixel numbers of $3{\times}3$, $4{\times}4$, and $5{\times}5$ have been studied in this paper in order to enhance the optical output power and decrease heat dissipation of an AlGaInP-based light emitting diode display device (pixel size of $280{\times}280{\mu}m$) fabricated by micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems. Simulation results showed that the thermal resistances of the $3{\times}3$, $4{\times}4$, $5{\times}5$ arrays were $52^{\circ}C/W$, $69.7^{\circ}C/W$, and $84.3^{\circ}C/W$. The junction temperature was calculated by the peak wavelength shift method, which showed that the maximum value appears at the center pixel due to thermal crosstalk from neighboring pixels. The central temperature would be minimized with $40{\mu}m$ pixel pitch and $150{\mu}m$ substrate thickness as calculated by thermal modeling using finite element analysis. The modeling can be used to optimize parameters of highly integrated AlGaInP-based LED arrays fabricated by micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems technology.
The $Gd_{1.9-x}Li_{0.1}Eu_xO_3$ (x=0.02, 0.05, 0.08, and 0.12) powders (${\thickapprox}1{\mu}m$) synthesized by sol-gel method, whose surfaces are modified in a colloidal silica suspension (size of $SiO_2$ particles: ${\sim}30$ nm), have been fabricated to highly stable and effective luminescent films on the glass substrates. Thanks to the fused $SiO_2$ nano particles in the vicinity of the glass softening temperature (at around $700^{\circ}C$), $Gd_{1.9-x}Li_{0.1}Eu_xO_3$ powders are strongly attached onto the surface of glass substrate (>9H, pencil hardness tester). This simple and low-cost method to get $Gd_{1.9-x}Li_{0.1}Eu_xO_3$ phosphor films without any loss of luminescence brightness would promise for applications to display devices.

The Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films were deposited on a glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering in pure Ar and $Ar+H_2$ gas ambient at temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ and annealed in hydrogen ambient at the temperature range from 100 to 300 $^{\circ}C$, respectively. It was found that either the addition of hydrogen to the sputtering gas or the annealing treatment effectively reduced the resistivity of the AZO films. When the AZO films were annealed at the temperature of 300 $^{\circ}C$ for lhr in a hydrogen atmosphere, the resistivity decreased from $2.60{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}cm$ to $8.42{\times}l0^{-4}\;{\Omega}cm$ for the film deposited in pure Ar gas ambient. Under the same annealing conditions of temperature and hydrogen ambient, the resistivity of AZO films deposited in the $Ar+H_2$ gas mixture decreased from $8.22{\times}l0^{-4}\;{\Omega}cm$ to $4.25{\times}l0^{-4}\;{\Omega}cm$. The lowest resistivity of $4.25{\times}l0^{-4}\;{\Omega}cm$ was obtained by adding hydrogen gas to the deposition and annealing process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of all films showed preferable growth orientation of (002) plane. The average transmittance is above 85 % and in the range of 400-1000 nm for all films.

Organic electronics are the domain in which the components and circuits are made of organic materials. This new electronics help to realize electronic and optoelectronic devices on flexible substrates. In recent years, organic materials have replaced conventional semiconductors in many electronic components such as, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and organic photovoltaic (OPVs). It is well known that organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) have many advantages in comparison with inorganic light-emitting diodes LEDs. These advantages include the low price of manufacturing, large area of electroluminescent display, uniform emission and lower the requirement for power. The aim of this paper is to model polymer LEDs and OLEDs made with small molecules for studying the electrical and optical characteristics. The purpose of this modeling process is, to obtain information about the running of OLEDs, as well as, the injection and charge transport mechanisms. The first simulation structure used in this paper is a mono layer device; typically consisting of the poly (2-methoxy-5(2'-ethyl) hexoxy-phenylenevinylene) (MEH-PPV) polymer sandwiched between an anode with a high work function, usually an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate, and a cathode with a relatively low work function, such as Al. Electrons will then be injected from the cathode and recombine with electron holes injected from the anode, emitting light. In the second structure, we replaced MEH-PPV by tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminum (Alq3). This simulation uses, the Poole-Frenkel -like mobility model and the Langevin bimolecular recombination model as the transport and recombination mechanism. These models are enabled in ATLAS- SILVACO. To optimize OLED performance, we propose to change some parameters in this device, such as doping concentration, thickness and electrode materials.

Atomic force microscope (AFM) has become a common tool for the structural and physical studies of biological macromolecules, mainly because it provides the ability to perform experiments with samples in a buffer solution. In this study, structure of proteins and nucleic acids has been studied in their physiological environment that allows native intermolecular complexes to be formed. Cr and Au were deposited on p-Si (100) substrate by thermal evaporation method in sequence with the thickness of $200{\AA}$ and $500{\AA}$, respectively, since Au is adequate for immobilizing biomolecules by forming a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) with semiconductor-based biosensors. The SAM, streptavidin and biotin interacted each other with their specific binding energy and their adsorption was analyzed using the Bio-AFM both in a solution and under air environment. A silicon nitride tip was used as a contact tip of Bio-AFM measurement in a solution and an antimony doped silicon tip as a tapping tip under air environment. Actual morphology could also be obtained by 3-dimensional AFM images. The length and agglomerate size of biomolecules was measured in stages. Furthermore, $R_{a}$ (average of surface roughness) and $R_{ms}$ (mean square of surface roughness) and surface density for the adsorbed surface were also calculated from the AFM image.

Aluminum nitride (AlN) thin film and TiN film as a buffer layer were deposited on INCONEL 600 substrate by reactive RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature(R.T.) under 25~75% $N_2/Ar$ atmosphere. The as-deposited AlN films at 25~50% $N_2/Ar$ showed a polycrystalline phase of hexagonal AlN, and an amorphous phase. The peak of AlN (002) plane, which was determinant on a performance of piezoelectric transducer, became strong with increasing the $N_2/Ar$ ratio. Any change in the preferential orientation of the as-deposited AlN films was not observed within our $N_2$ concentration range. The piezoelectric sensing properties of AlN module were performed using pressure-voltage measurement system. The output signal voltage of AlN module showed a linear behavior between 20~80 mV in 1~10 MPa range, and the pressure-sensing sensitivity was calculated as 3.6 mV/MPa.

We demonstrate the hybrid polymer-quantum dot based multi-functional device (Organic bistable devices, Light-emitting diode, and Photovoltaic cell) with a single active-layer structure consisting of CdSe/ZnS semiconductor quantum-dots (QDs) dispersed in a poly N-vinylcarbazole (PVK) and 1,3,5-tirs- (N-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl) benzene (TPBi) fabricated on indium-tin-oxide (ITO)/glass substrate by using a simple spin coating technique. The multi-functionality of the device as Organic bistable device (OBD), Light Emitting Diode (LED), and Photovoltaic cell can be successfully achieved by adding an electron transport layer (ETL) TPBi to OBD for attaining the functions of LED and Photovoltaic cell in which the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level of TPBi is positioned at the energy level between the conduction band of CdSe/ZnS and LiF/Al electrode (band-gap engineering). Through transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study, the active layer of the device has a p-i-n structure of a consolidated core-shell structure in which semiconductor QDs are uniformly and isotropically adsorbed on the surface of a p-type polymer core and the n-type small molecular organic materials surround the semiconductor QDs.
In this study, the stress-strain response and the cracking behaviors of ITO film on a PET substrate are investigated. The cracking behaviors of ITO thin films deposited on a thermoplastic semi-crystalline polymer developed for flexible display applications was investigated by means of tensile experiments equipped with an electrical measurement apparatus and an in-situ optical microscope. Electrical resistance increased gradually in the elastic-to-plastic transition region of the stress strain curves and cracks formed. Numerous cracks were found in this region, and the increase of the resistance was linked to the cracking of ITO thin films. Upon loading, the initial cracks perpendicular to the tensile axis were observed at about 1% of the total strain. They propagated to the entire sample width as the strain increased. The spacing between the horizontal cracks is thought to be determined by the fracture strength and the thickness of the ITO film as well as by the interfacial strength between the ITO and PET. The effect of the strain rate on the cracking behavior was also investigated. The crack density increased as the strain increased. The spacing between the horizontal cracks (perpendicular to the stress axis) increased as the strain rate decreased. The increase of the crack density as the strain rate decreased can be attributed to the higher fraction of the plastic strain to the total strain at a given total strain. The higher critical strain for the onset of the increase in the resistance and the crack initiation of the ITO/PET with a thinner ITO film (300 ohms/sq.) suggests a higher strength of the thinner ITO film.
$SnO_2$ single layer films and 2 nm thick Ni thin film intermediated $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ trilayer films were deposited on glass substrate at room temperatures by RF and DC magnetron sputtering and then the optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated to enhance opto-electrical performance of $SnO_2$ single layer films. As deposited $SnO_2$ films show the optical transmittance of 81.8% in the visible wavelength region and a resistivity of $1.2{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}cm$, while $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films show a lower resistivity of $5.8{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$ and an optical transmittance of 77.1% in this study. Since $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films show the higher figure of merit than that of the $SnO_2$ single layer films, it is supposed that the $AZO/Ni/SnO_2$ films can assure high opto-electrical performance for use as a transparent conducting oxide in various display applications.
