Reduced Swing Polarity Inversion Driving Method for a-Si:H TFT Based AMOLED

  • We have proposed a new driving method which improve the current stability of a-Si:H TFTs for AMOLED. It performs the negative bias annealing on driving TFTs during a certain period of a frame time. In the proposed method, the range of data signals is significantly reduced by modulating VSS.

New Driving Method for High Contrast Ratio and Reduction of Reset Period of AC-PDPs

  • The ramp reset driving method proposed in [1] has been widely adopted because of its stability and high contrast ratio. However, when the conventional ramp reset method is used in PDPs of higher resolution, the long required time for reset often becomes a problem. In this paper, a new driving method that requires much less reset time and that significantly improves the contrast ratio is introduced. Using this new driving method, the required time for reset could be reduced to 150us from 350us of the conventional ramp reset method, and the contrast ratio is almost infinite because the luminance of the off-cell is almost zero.

  • TFT-LCD is widely used for flat panel display. The large-size TFT-LCD panel requires a high speed driving and various driving methods because of signal delay, which is responsible for the shading effects. In this work, the floating and double driving methods are applied to Pixel Design Array Simulation Tool(PDAST) and the pixel characteristics of TFT-LCD array is simulated. Also, we have implemented the semi-empirical TFT model to PDAST, which makes to obtain a more accurate pixel characteristics.

  • Driving simulators provide engineers with a power tool in the development and modification stages of vehicle models. One of the most important factors to realistic simulations is the fidelity obtained by a motion bed and a real-time visual image generation algorithm. Virtual reality technology has been widely used to enhance the fidelity of vehicle simulators. This paper develops the virtual environment for such visual system as head-mounted display for a vehicle driving simulator. Virtual vehicle and environment models are constructed using the object-oriented analysis and design approach. Based on the object model, a three-dimensional graphic model is completed with CAD tools such as Rhino and Pro/ENGINEER. For real-time image generation, the optimized IRIS Performer 3D graphics library is embedded with the multi-thread methodology. The developed software for a virtual driving simulator offers an effective interface to virtual reality devices.

Analysis of the Influence of the Address Electrode Width on High-speed Addressing Using the Vt Close Curve and Dynamic Vdata Margin

  • In order to drive the high-density plasma displays, a high-speed driving technology must be researched. In this experiment, the relationship between the width of the address electrode and high-speed driving is analyzed using the Vt close curve and the panel structure for high-speed driving is proposed. In addition we show that the wider the width of the address electrode is, the narrower the width of the scan pulse becomes. Therefore, we could achieve the minimum data voltage of 50.1V at a scan pulse width of $1.0/{\mu}s$ and a ramp voltage of 210V at an address electrode width of $180/{\mu}m$ for the high-speed driving 4-inch test PDP.

  • In order to achieve high efficiency and low cost, new high-speed addressing method is suggested. This can be implemented by reducing the address discharge time lag through the priming effect. This paper suggests a new ADR(Address During Reset) driving method which provides priming particles by a separated driving method without adding auxiliary electrode or auxiliary discharge. The experimental results show an approximately 100ns reduction in the formative delay time of address discharge and a reduction in jitter of over 200ns. Also, due to enough time being available for reset, there was a reduction of about 29$\%$ in linht emitted during the reset period considerably.

  • Motion-estimation/motion-compensation (ME/MC) provides superior motion picture quality but its huge computation load results in high cost. Impulsive driving is a cost-effective solution but it suffers from large flicker and brightness loss. Motion compensated impulsive driving technology has been developed to achieve high motion picture quality in a cost-effective implementation by combining ME/MC and impulsive driving. The key idea is to apply ME/MC or impulsive driving selectively according to the motion vector distribution of the incoming image sequence. In this paper, the description of the algorithm and the experimental results are provided.

  • 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널에서 기입기간 동안 공통전극에서의 벽전하를 이용하여 기입방전특성을 향상시키기 위하여 수정된 구동 파형을 제시한다. 플라즈마 디스플레이의 구동방식에 있어서 초기화 기간 후에 상판의 두 전극에는 음전하가 쌓이게 되고 하판의 기입전극에는 양전하가 쌓이게 된다. 기입기간 중의 기입방전은 주사펄스와 기입펄스가 동시에 인가될 때 발생되는데 주사전극의 음전하와 기입전극의 양전하가 주로 이용된다. 반면에 공통 전극에서는 기입기간 동안 파형인가 없이 전압만 유지하기 때문에 공통전극의 벽전하는 크게 기여하지 않는다. 본 연구에서는 기입기간 중 주사 및 기입 펄스의 인가시각에 맞춰 공통 전극에서도 펄스를 인가하여 기입방전 특성을 조사하였다. 공통 전극에서의 인가전압의 높이와 펄스의 인가시각에 따른 기입 방전특성을 조사하는 실험을 각각 진행하였으며 그 결과 최적의 전압높이와 인가시각 조건하에서 기입방전의 발생시간을 종래보다 약 200 ns 정도 단축시켰다.

A High Voltage NMOSFET Fabricated by using a Standard CMOS Logic Process as a Pixel-driving Transistor for the OLED on the Silicon Substrate

  • A high voltage NMOSFET is proposed to drive top emission organic light emitting device (OLED) used in the organic electroluminescent (EL) display on the single crystal silicon substrate. The high voltage NMOSFET can be fabricated by utilizing a simple layout technique with a standard CMOS logic process. It is clearly shown that the maximum supply voltage ($V_{DD}$) required for the pixel-driving transistor could reach 45 V through analytic and experimental methods. The high voltage NMOSFET was fabricated by using a standard 1.5 ${\mu}m$, 5 V CMOS logic process. From the measurements, we confirmed that the high voltage NMOSFET could sustain the excellent saturation characteristic up to 50 V without breakdown phenomena.

  • CMOS LCD driving circuits using poly-Si TFT have been designed and basic blocks including test patterns have been fabricated. Column driver drives the pixels by block because polu-Si TFT can not operate at the speed of video signal. Row driver has mode selection circuit which can select a mode between interlacing mode and non-interlacing mode. Experimental results show shift register can operate at 1MHz colck frequency with 4pF load.
