A Study on the Design of Ergonomic Bridge Conning Display (인간공학적 Bridge Conning Display 설계에 관한 연구)

  • According to the development of technology of the navigational equipments, many bridge equipments have been improved, however, marine accidents by human error have not been reduced. Therefore, a matter of primary concern is focused on whether bridge equipments of ships are ergonomically arranged to reduce errors due to human factors. As part of a design of IBS(Integrated Bridge System) standard, rules of the conning display to save time and additional movements to obtain important informations of a ship should be established as soon as possible. In the present study, ergonomic design factors for the conning display are studied through the survey of related works, heuristic evaluations, sketch method tests as well as questionnaires. Using these factors, new conning display was designed and the ergonomic indices were evaluated by comparing tests of the existing conning displays. It is found that the designed conning display obtained high ergonomic index showed better performance, therefore, the ergonomic index studied in the present paper can be used as a useful design standard in the conning display design procedures.

  • We have developed the LCD Simulator, which is called "ProLCD", in order to reduce time and efforts for the design and analysis of LCDs. We describe the numerical models implementing the computation of LC directors and electro-optics, the graphic user interface and the visualization modules. Many applications show that ProLCD is a very useful, interactive design tool with good reliability.

  • Lamp mura has become a challenge for slim LCD-TV backlight design. The aim of this paper is to apply a novel diffuser plate to improve lamp mura issue instead of increasing lamps or optical films. The results are positive and contribute to the design of slimmer TV without cost up.

  • This research is regarding color-analyzing Italian children's furniture and display space, in which application method of furniture display is looked at by understanding relations of furniture and display space through theoretical consideration and by understanding each factor of composition. Moreover, it establishes a formality of scientific and systematic standard in the color scheme of furniture and display space through using NCS Color System and the related Color Harmony Theory of Ostwald and Faber Birren as analysis tools. In the process of analyzing the colors of furniture and display space, I aimed to comprehend color trend of Italian children's furniture display space by comparing and analyzing Italian children's furniture dealers. I was able to comprehend the color relationship between furniture and display space from the results of analysis of examples of children's furniture display space and analysis of color deviation. Therefore, with this research I suggest the primary data and application strategy from a systematic point of view through Color Harmony Theory in color scheme of children's furniture display space in contemporary Italy.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop subject of up-to-date scientific technology, according with science museum, and to deviate from the old style, simply-seeing display, and the passive display which simply support narrative styles by one-way action. In addition, for motivating audience to take part in the display, this study is to analyze displaying technique, key marks of an exhibit and then to create the way which science museum should follow in order to plan interactive scenario and display technique. By analysis and consideration of museums, which I took for a sample, this study will work out display scenario, based on interactive concept, and experience display technique. Moreover, this study will suggest alternatives and basis in order to develop display technique of up-to-date science in science museum.

  • We discuss the design and fabrication of CCD or C-MOS imaging lenses with hybrid diffractive / refractive optics. The hybrid lenses are made of optical grade plastic materials. We have been able to significantly reduce the number of elements while maintaining very high optical quality. This paper describes the conception, design, fabrication and evaluation of hybrid lenses in comparison with conventional refractive lenses. The new lens has excellent optical quality, very light weight, compact size and low manufacturing cost.

  • The one of the most important thing for the successful realization of display functions in modern exhibition activities is based on exhibition space and the information communication between designers and visitors. Therefore, the information transmission has become an important function of modern exhibition activities. How to transmit information effectively is the key factor of successful exhibition design. However, 'people flow' and 'transportation' are taken as the main issues for a lot of the design works in space design of exhibition. But the information transmission is seldom taken into account as an important factor. The ultimate objective of exhibition design is to transmit the exhibits' information effectively to visitors, so the effective transmission of exhibiting information becomes the most important criteria in exhibition design. The successful exhibition can be well designed through information transmission by means of material objects, a lighting, properties, sounds, color, performance, etc The successful effects of the exhibition also depends on a great extent of the display design and a modeling in exhibition space. Modern exhibition design is getting more importance on the research on forms including basic features and exhibition space relations of forms. This research discusses on the design method that is favorable to information transmission In order to deal with the factor of display and modeling in exhibition space.

Smartphone Use at Night Affects Melatonin Secretion, Body Temperature, and Heart Rate

  • In the present study, we investigated the physiological effects of smartphone use at night when the display luminance and white balance were differently manipulated. Two levels of luminance and two types of white balance were combined to form four types of displays. Subjects were instructed to use smartphones between 23:00 to 01:00 twice a week for two weeks, and for each trial, subjects were given one of the four display types. Melatonin concentration in the saliva, body temperature and heart rate were measured before and after each experiment. The experimental result showed that the low luminance display supported melatonin secretion and thermoregulation compared to the high luminance display. With regard to the white balance, higher melatonin level was observed when using the display that filtered blue light. The low luminance display together with yellowish tint best supported restful sleep at night in terms of every physiological response. This study collectively demonstrates that bright and blue light emitted from smartphone displays adversely affect melatonin secretion, body temperature, and heart rate, and therefore, suggests the use of a display with low luminance or a display that filters blue light for a restful sleep at night.

  • For lower power and smaller size with higher image quality, it is desirable to have more units integrated on a display panel. It needs careful design considerations in selecting CMOS, SOP or PCB. An experimental display system is designed and power and delay considering chip area, data rates and bus width are analyzed for all technology combinations to obtain optimum design methodologies.
