  • In this article, sensitivity analysis of atmospheric dispersion model RIMPUFF is considered. Uncertain parameters are taken to be triangular fuzzy numbers, and sensitivity analysis is carried out by using the Hartley-like measure. Codes for evaluating membership function using the Vertex method and the Hartley-like measure are prepared using Matlab.

  • The model simplification method of the linear time invariant continuous system is proposed. Using the energy dispersion method the dynamic modes with dominent energy contribution are selected, and the poles of the denomenater are retained. And there is investigated how the dynamic modes affected the system characteristic. The parameters of the numerator are determined by time moment matching method. This method is that the algorithm is simple and also the simplified model found is always stable if the original system is stable, and through examples we assured that this method leads to good results in both transient and steady state responses.

  • A enw channel current model of GaAs MeSFET suitagle for applications to microwave CAD has been developed. The current model includes the bias-dependent frequency dispersion effects and its parameters are extracted from the pulsed I-V measurements at several quiescent bias points. The model is verified by applying to the nonlinear circuit designs of power amplifier and MMIC mixer.

  • For the preparation of carbon-slurry fuel, the effects of process parameters on the carbon dispersion stability in the liquid fuel have been investigated. The dispersion stability of carbon-slurry fuels could be monitored by measurements of particle size and carbon contents in the different positions, and observation of dispersion states after centrifuging. Through the application of various additives, it was found that NB463S84 based on polyolefin succinimde showed the best dispersion and longest stability life of carbon-slurry fuel. Also, PIBSI (polyisobutenyl succimide) with the similar functional groups to NB463S84 was effectively synthesized and same dispersion stability was verified by application to carbon-slurry fuel. Finally, the possibility of practical use of carbon-slurry fuels was confirmed by application of the mixing conditions obtained from g scale to kg scale preparation.

  • For transmitting the ultra-high speed optical signals with better performance, the techniques to suppress or mitigate the signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion and optical Kerr effects are required. Dispersion management (DM), optical phase conjugation, and the combination of these two are promising techniques to compensate for the signal distortion. However, the fixed length of single mode fiber (SMF) and the fixed residual dispersion per span (RDPS) usually used in these optical links restricts flexible link configuration. The goal of this paper is to investigate the possibility of the flexible configurations of the ultra-high and long-haul optical transmission systems by using the artificial and the random distribution of SMF length and RDPS of each fiber spans consisted of the optical link. It is confirmed that the proposed link configurations should be one of the methods suitable for implementing the flexible optical transmission systems, however which depend on other link parameters, such as the averaged RDPS, and the launch power.

  • In this study, estimation of nonlinear adsorption isotherms(Langmuir & Freundlich adsorption isotherm) and advection-dispersion model parameters was conducted using genetic algorithm(GA) for Zn and Cd adsorption. Estimated parameters of nonlinear adsorption isotherms, which were obtained from the optimization process using genetic algorithm(GA), are nearly same with the parameters obtained from a linearization process of the nonlinear isotherms. Estimated effective diffusion coefficients, which were obtained from a finite element analysis of the advection-dispersion model and an optimization procedure using the genetic algorithm, for the metals were approximately in the order of $10^{-7}cm^2/s$ which could be obtained based on the linear distribution coefficient. The effective diffusion coefficients based on the nonlinear retardation factors were in the range of $10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-5}cm^2/s$. As a result, the correlation coefficient obtained between the measured and calculated concentration was over 0.9 which means that the genetic algorithm should be successfully applied to estimate the unknown parameters of the nonlinear adsorption isotherms and advection-dispersion model.

  • A prompt subsurface runoff producing mechanism whih creaters a depletion curve of direct runoff hydrograph is simulated by a dead zone dispersion model technique. Runoff processes are carried out by routing of the outflow resulted from previous linear channel and effective rainfall from its corresponding subwatershed through a series of conceptual linear channels representing subwatersheds of a catchment. Working rules are explained for evaluation the model parameters such as translatory velocity, diffusive factor, and parameters concerning the infiltration and relative magnitude of the prompt subsurface flow region.

  • This study developed a Poisson generalized linear mixed model and a procedure to estimate genetic parameters for count traits. The method derived from a frequentist perspective was based on hierarchical likelihood, and the maximum adjusted profile hierarchical likelihood was employed to estimate dispersion parameters of genetic random effects. Current approach is a generalization of Henderson's method to non-normal data, and was applied to simulated data. Underestimation was observed in the genetic variance component estimates for the data simulated with large heritability by using the Poisson generalized linear mixed model and the corresponding maximum adjusted profile hierarchical likelihood. However, the current method fitted the data generated with small heritability better than those generated with large heritability.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an anisotropic heterogeneous crustal layer over a gravitational semi-infinite sandy substratum. It is assumed that the heterogeneity in the crustal layer arises due to exponential variation in elastic coefficients and density whereas the semi-infinite sandy substratum has homogeneous sandiness parameters. The coupled effects of heterogeneity, anisotropy, sandiness parameters and gravity on Rayleigh waves are discussed analytically as well as numerically. The dispersion relation is obtained in determinant form. The proposed model is solved to obtain the different dispersion relations for the Rayleigh wave in the elastic medium of different properties. The results presented in this study may be attractive and useful for mathematicians, seismologists and geologists.

  • In this paper, we facilitate the analysis of 1D PBG structure using a ABCD matrix formulation after converting field parameters into circuit parameters. Dispersion diagrams for an infinite 1D PBG structure are derived and compared with the frequency responses for a finite structure (N=10). When the proposed method is adopted, the analysis and synthesis of 1D PBG structures become very convenient.
