  • Dispersion pattern of the citrus red mite (CRM), Panonychus citri (McGregor) was determined to develop a monitoring method in the satsuma mandarin fields, Citrus unshiu L., in Jeju-do, during 1999 and 2000. CRM population was sampled by collecting leaves. Taylor's power law provided better description of mean-variance relationship for the dispersion indices compared to Iwao's patchiness regression. Slopes and intercepts of Taylor's power law from leaf samples did not differ among surveyed groves. Fixed-precision levels (D) of a sequential sampling plan were developed using Taylor's power law parameters generated from all motile stages of CRM in leaf sample. This sampling plan for leaf sample estimate was tested with resampling validation for sampling plan using 4 independent data sets. Resampling simulation analysis demonstrated that actual fixed-precision level values were better than desired D values of 0.20, 0.25 and 0.30. Required numbers for tree sampling at the density of more than 7 mites per tree were fewer than 18.

  • We determined the optical constants of organic light emitting material of Alq$_3$ in a spectral range between 1.5 and 6 eV using the physical model introduced by Forouhi and Bloomer[Phys. Rev. B 34, pp. 7018-7026, 1986.]. The initial parameters of $A_i,\;B_i,\;C_i$ of Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relations were determined from the absorption peaks and widths of absorption spectra of the Alq$_3$ film. The refractive index of substrate, a fused silica, is derived from the Sellmeier equation with the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra. Then, the complex refractive index and thickness of the Alq$_3$ film were calculated by use of a nonlinear least square fitting program with the Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relation and the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra.

  • In Korea, the aquifers at the coastal areas are mostly shallow alluvial unconfined aquifers. To simulate the flow and dispersion in unconfined aquifer, a FDM model has been developed to solve the nonlinear Boussinesq equation. Related analysis and verification have been executed. The iteration method is used to solve the nonlinearity, and the model shows 3-D shape because it is a 2-D y model that consider the undulation of water table and bottom. For the verification of the model, the output of flow module is compared to the 1-D analytic solution of Lee (1989) which have the drawdown or uplift boundary condition, and the two results show almost the same value. and the mass balance of dispersion module shows about 10% error. The developed model can be used for the analysis and design of the flow and dispersion in the unconfined aquifers. The model has been applied to the estuary area of Ssangcheon watershed, and the parameters have been deduced as a result : hydraulic conductivity is 90 m/day, and longitudinal dispersivity is 15 m. And the analysis with these parameters shows that the wells are situated in the influence circle of each others except for No. 7 well. Groundwater discharge to sea is $3700m^3/day$. And the chlorine ion ($cl^-$) concentration at the pumping wells increase at least 1000 mg/L if groundwater dam is not exist, so the groundwater dam plays an important role for the prevention of sea water intrusion.

  • Natural state materials contain a lot of available nutrient components. Among them, natural nutrient substances are utilized not only as the ingredient of functional foods but also as the excipients of functional cosmetics and pharmaceutic. Of these nutrient substances, solubility parameters of each components were calculated to choose the most suitable solvents for solutions. The solubility parameters for each components were composed of the dispersion contribution of the molecular attractive function, the polar contribution of the molecular attractive function and the contribution of the hydrogen bonding force. The chi parameters ($\chi_{12}$) were calculated with the information of the solubility parameter for the solute and solvent and were used as the criteria for the optimal solute-solvent pair. The optimal solvents were suggested with the numerical values of chi parameters for some amino acids.

  • In this study, when interpreting leakage using the concept of geographical dispersion based on grid, to choose an appropriate spatial resolution, the statistical characteristics of drainage path length and the pattern of change of hydrodynamic parameters have been observed. Drainage path length has been calculated using an 8-direction algorithm from digital elevation model, from which the hydrodynamic parameters of the watershed were estimated. The scales of topographical map for this analysis are 1:5,000 and 1:25,000, appling grid sizes 5, 10, 15, 20 m and 20, 30, 50, 100, 150, 200 m, respectively. As results of this analysis, depending on the scale of stream networks, the statistical characteristics of drainage path length by spatial resolution and hydrodynamic parameters of the watershed have been changed. Based on the above results, when interpreting leakage using the concept of the geographical dispersion based on grid, in the case of 1:5,000 scale topographical map, a spatial resolution of 5 m will be better showing geographical and hydrodynamic characteristics to apply to the well developed stream network in basins, spatial resolution of 5~20 m to the less developed stream network in basins. And in the case of 1:25,000 scale topographical map, spatial resolution below 50 m is more desirable to show above two characteristics to apply to both cases.

  • In this paper, the effect of impulsive line on the propagation of shear waves in non-homogeneous elastic layer is investigated. The rigidity and density in the intermediate layer is assumed to vary quadratic as functions of depth. The dispersion equation is obtained by using the Fourier transform and Green's function technique. The study ends with the mathematical calculations for transmitted wave in the layer. These equations are in complete agreement with the classical results when the non-homogeneity parameters are neglected. Various curves are plotted to show the effects of non-homogeneities on shear waves in the intermediate layer.

  • We report a method for simultaneous measurements of cell gap, twist angle, birefringence dispersion of liquid crystal (LC) material and alignment directions in filled reflective LC cells. The method is based on spectral measurements of the LC cell reflectivity for three orientations ($0^{\circ},45^{\circ},90^{\circ}$) of the exit polarizer and may be applied for LC cells with low and high gaps.

  • This paper calculates the band structure of the GaAs/(Al,Ga) As semiconductor superlttice with the interface3 grading, in consideration of different effective masses in each region. Including the effective masses, superlattice period, well and barrier widths, and the interface, the dispersion relation is derived, and the effects that the above parameters affect the subband (or miniband) structure of the superlattice and effective energy gap are investigated. It is particularly found that this case(ma<>mb<>mc) is significantly different from the same effective mass case(ma<>mb<>mc).

  • The effect of various parameters on the propagation of surface waves in electro-magneto thermoelastic orthotropic granular non-homogeneous medium subjected to gravity and initial compression has been studied. All material coefficients are obeyed the same exponent-law dependence on the depth of the granular elastic half space. Some special cases investigated by earlier researchers have also been deduced. Dispersion curves are computed numerically and presented graphically.

  • Magnetic Fe nanoparticles were synthesized by CVC process using Fe(CO)$\sub$5/ as precursors. The nanoparticles have core-shell structures with uniform dispersion. For the specific purposes, the micostructures as well as the magnetic states of Fe nanoparticles can be controlled by adjusting the process parameters, such as the carrier gases, the decomposition temperature, the cooling of powder, etc.
