Solid dispersions of poorly water-soluble drug, sibutramine, were prepared with hydrophilic polymer, poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone (PVP), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and organic acid, citric acid, to improve the solubility of drug. Physicochemical variation and shape of microsphere were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Microspheres containing additives showed more spherical shape than non additive microspheres. In vitro release behavior of microspheres presented at simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.2) and simulated intestinal fluid (pH 6.8). The solid dispersion form transformed the drug into an amorphous state and dramatically improved its dissolution rate. These data suggest that the solid dispersion technique is an effective approach for developing the appetite depressant drug products and various pharmaceutical excipients are able to control the release behaviors.
Sonic wave dispersion characteristics are one of the most important targets of study, particularly in estimating shear wave velocity from borehole sonic logging. We have tested dispersion characteristics using monopole and dipole sources. Theoretical dispersion curves were computed for tool-absent and tool-included models having the same physical properties but different diameters (including ${\Phi}520mm$, ${\Phi}150mm$, and ${\Phi}76mm$). Comparisons were made between boreholes of different sizes and between tool-absent and tool-included models. Between the tool-included and the tool-absent boreholes, a close similarity in dispersion curve shape was revealed for the monopole source, and a significant difference was shown for the dipole source. However, for the cut-off frequency, particularly in the engineering boreholes (${\Phi}76mm$ and ${\Phi}50mm$), a significant difference was observed for signals from the monopole source, but approximately the same cut-off frequencies were found with the dipole source. This indicates the need of careful choice of source frequency in monopole-source sonic logging, particularly in an engineering borehole. The results of numerical experiments show that cut-off frequency is exponentially proportional to the inverse of borehole radius, irrespective of the mode type and the presence of a tool, and that the cut-off frequencies for each borehole environment could be expressed as an exponential function, rather than the inversely proportional relationship between the cut-off frequency and the borehole radius that was previously generally recognised. From the direct comparison of dispersion curves, the effects on the dispersion characteristics of borehole size and the presence of the tool can be revealed more clearly than in previous studies, which presented the dispersion curve and/or characteristics for each borehole environment separately.
Paclitaxel is a taxane diterpene amide, which was first extracted from the stem bark of the western yew, Taxus brevifolia. This natural product has proven to be useful in the treatment of a variety of human neoplastic disorders, including ovarian cancer, breast and lung cancer. Paclitaxel is a highly hydrophobic drug that is poorly soluble in water. It is mainly given by intravenous administration. Therefore, The pharmaceutical formulation of paclitaxel ($Taxol^{(R)}$; Bristol-Myers Squibb) contains 50% $Cremophor^{(R)}$ EL and 50% dehydrated ethanol. However the ethanol/Cremophor EL vehicle required to solubilize paclitaxel in $Taxol^{(R)}$ has a pharmacological and pharmaceutical problems. To overcome these problems, new formulations for paclitaxel that do not require solubilization by $Cremophor^{(R)}$ EL are currently being developed. Therefore this study utilized a supercritical fluid antisolvent (SAS) process for cremophor-free formulation. To select hydrophilic polymers that require solubilization for paclitaxel, we evaluated polymers and the ratio of paclitaxel/polymers. HP-${\beta}$-CD was used as a hydrophilic polymer in the preparation of the paclitaxel solid dispersion. Although solubility of paclitaxel by polymers was increased, physical stability of solution after paclitaxel/polymer powder soluble in saline was unstable. To overcome this problem, we investigated the use of surfactants. At 1/20/40 of paclitaxel/hydrophilic polymer/ surfactant weight ratio, about 10 mg/mL of paclitaxel can be solubilized in this system. Compared with the solubility of paclitaxel in water ($1\;{\mu}g/mL$), the paclitaxel solid dispersion prepared by SAS process increased the solubility of paclitaxel by near 10,000 folds. The physicochemical properties was also evaluated. The particle size distribution, melting point and amophorization and shape of the powder particles were fully characterized by particle size distribution analyzer, DSC, SEM and XRD. In summary, through the SAS process, uniform nano-scale paclitaxel solid dispersion powders were obtained with excellent results compared with $Taxol^{(R)}$ for the physicochemical properties, solubility and pharmacokinetic behavior.

The aim of this study is to research applicable possibility or Dry Sorbent Injection Technique(DSI) in sox removal process using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) software package. It will be applied for 500MW in capacity coal-fired thermal power plant operated by South Korea N. Power Co., Ltd. The DSI process is adapted between a preheater and an EP process in the technological assembly. The numerical analysis performs in predicting and optimizing of DSI process's characteristics, which consists of structure of duct, position of injection nozzles, injection speed, and dispersion of sorbent. Computing results are shown that degree of sorbent dispersion depends on structure of duct and position of injection nozzles strongly. The highest dispersion efficiency was obtained when we set a Lobed-plate inside the duct and 6 injection nozzles on the duct(4 injection nozzles at the corners and 2 injection nozzles on upper and under walls as a rectangle duct shape). We also know that change of injection speed of sorbent doesn't have an large effect on the sorbent dispersion but it can effect to drop pressure.

In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for optical pulse shape distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and SPM(self phase modulation) in high speed optical transmission system with dispersion shift fiber. We adopted the power symmetric MSSI(mid-span spectral inversion) as compensation method. We used EOP(eye-opening penalty) parameter in order to evaluate the compensation efficiency of distorted optical pulse. We evaluated input signal power range being able to maintain stable reception performance in the case of various chirp parameter of modulated optical pulse. And, in order to verify the applicable to wideband WDM system, we evaluated the wavelength range being able to maintain stable reception performance through the EOP calculation of various dispersion coefficient of first fiber D$\_$11/. We showed that proposed MSSI is effective compensation method to down chirped optical pulse transmission rather than up chirped optical pulse transmission in anomalous dispersion range. And we showed that this method have possibility of relative high power transmission and wideband transmission in WDM system.

This technical note demonstrates the feasibility of using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for the characterization of U-7Mo/Ale5Si dispersion fuel. Our measurements show 5.0% Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) for the reproducibility of measured $^{98}Mo/^{238}U$ ratios in fuel particles from spot analysis, and 3.4% RSD for $^{98}Mo/^{238}U$ ratios in a NIST-SRM 612 glass standard. Line scanning allows for the distinction of U-7Mo fuel particles from the Al-5Si matrix. Each mass spectrum peak indicates the presence of U-7Mo fuel particles, and the time width of each peak corresponds to the size of that fuel particle. The size of the fuel particles is estimated from the time width of the mass spectrum peak for $^{98}Mo$ by considering the scan rate used during the line scan. This preliminary application clearly demonstrates that laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry can directly identify isotope ratios and sizes of the fuel particles in U-Mo/Al dispersion fuel. Once optimized further, this instrument will be a powerful tool for investigating irradiated dispersion fuels in terms of fission product distributions in fuel matrices, and the changes in fuel particle size or shape after irradiation.
Flow and scalar dispersion around Cheomseongdae are numerically investigated using a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model with the renormalization group (RNG) $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence closure scheme. Cheomseongdae is an ancient astronomical observatory in Gyeongju, Korea, and is chosen as a model obstacle because of its unique shape, that is, a cylinder-shaped architectural structure with its radius varying with height. An interesting feature found is a mid-height saddle point behind Cheomseongdae. Different obstacle shapes and corresponding flow convergences help to explain the presence of the saddle point. The predicted size of recirculation zone formed behind Cheomseongdae increases with increasing ambient wind speed and decreases with increasing ambient turbulence intensity. The relative roles of inertial and eddy forces in producing cavity flow zones around an obstacle are conceptually presented. An increase in inertial force promotes flow separation. Consequently, cavity flow zones around the obstacle expand and flow reattachment occurs farther downwind. An increase in eddy force weakens flow separation by mixing momentum there. This results in the contraction of cavity flow zones and flow reattachment occurs less far downwind. An increase in ambient wind speed lowers predicted scalar concentration. An increase in ambient turbulence intensity lowers predicted maximum scalar concentration and acts to distribute scalars evenly.
Lubricant-based nanofluids were prepared by dispersing carbon nanoparticles in gear oil. In this study, the effects of the particle size, shape and dispersity of the particles on the tribological properties of nanofluids were investigated. Dispersion experiments were conducted with a high-speed bead mill and an ultrasonic homogenizer, and the surfaces of the nanoparticles were simultaneously modified with several dispersants. The effective thermal conductivity of the nanofluids was measured by the transient hot-wire method, and the tribological behaviors of the nanofluids were also investigated with a disk-on-disk tribo-tester. The results of this study clearly showed that the combination of the nanoparticles, the deagglomeration process, the dispersant and the dispersion solvent is very important for the dispersity and tribological properties of nanofluids. Lubricant-based nanofluids showed relatively low thermal conductivity enhancement, but they were highly effective in decreasing the frictional heat that was generated. For nanofluids containing 0.1vol.% graphite particles in an oil lubricant, The friction coefficient in the boundary and fluid lubrication range was reduced to approximately 70% of the original value of pure lubricant.

This paper presents a theoretical study of transmission performance for optical duobinary transmitters employed a Mach-Zehnder modulator. Especially, we have investigated the performance of the various transmitters for transmitting 25Gbps optical duobinary signals at a wavelength of 1550nm without any dispersion compensation methods over single mode fiber. Due to the characteristics of generating their duobinary signals, each transmitter has a distinct optical power spectrum and an eye opening shape. By these, there was a difference in the dispersion tolerance. We could find a suitable transmitter for 25Gbps transmission considering the structure complexities and the restricted conditions with the simulation results.
Particulate reinforced aluminum alloys produced by indirect squeeze casting are difficult to shape by cutting or milling. Therefore near net shape forming of complex shapes is of high economic and technical interest. The complex shape products of $SiC_p/6061$ Al composites are fabricated by the melt-stirring and indirect squeeze casting process. The mold temperatures are $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$ and applied pressures are 70, 100, and 130 MPa. The volume fractions of the reinforcements are in the range of 5 vol% to 15 vol%. The reinforcement dispersion state are observed using on optical microscope. By employing observed results systematically a correlation is demonstrated among the microstructure, particles behavior, mechanical properties and processing parameters for an optimum melt-stirring(compocasting) and indirect squeeze casting process of MMCs. A procedure to establish the optimum squeeze casting of Al-MMCs is proposed.
