  • Developed in the study is the analysis of human factors involved in accidents of Korean Construction Projects. The 556 cases are sampled from a survey material 'Serious Accident Cases in the Construction Projects' edited by Korea Industrial Safety Corporation in 1995 through 1997. The analysis of these cases shows that existing classification system is not good for practical applications in real spots since they are difficult for engineers to understand. In this paper, human factors are classified into three groups by extracting the analysis and arrangement of the cases. Futhermore, We'll propose here a new type of accident which is subdivided. If engineers use this type of accident, they will be probably able to analyze efficiently human factors which are involved in accidents and relatied with how it happen. In the case of fall and upset accidents, personal factors seem to be critical when workers are horizontally moving in an unstable manner, and vertically moving without boarding facilities. Futhermore work environmental factors are important when workers release some materials and are performing building and dismantling tasks.

  • The Sijeon (Licensed Markets) legally permitted by the government along the Jongno and the Namdaemunro Avenues played a central commercial role in Hanyang. However, after the opening of the port in the late Joseon era, the Licensed Markets suffered a blow and declined due to the introduction of a new product of civilization and the appearance of foreign merchants. Although the Licensed Markets, which have been maintained without major changes for a long time, have played a major role in the urban spatial structure, the exact location has not been still determined, and researches until now has remained limited for such that. In this study, based on the 1912 land survey records, the location of the Licensed Markets pre-and post- 1910 is identified, and the spatial change of the dismantling process is investigated.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate asbestos handling history of workers at automobile manufacturing plants in Korea. Methods: National regulations on asbestos and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA) database on the information of asbestos containing products were reviewed. We investigated asbestos related materials from one automobile manufacturing plant. Material safety data sheets(MSDS) collected in 2010, work environment monitoring results reported from 2000 to 2013, trade union reports and asbestos survey reports were reviewed. We also interviewed workers with long career and did walk-through survey. Results: The Ministry of Labor in Korea has permitted asbestos manufacturing since 1990. In 1997, the use of crocidolite and amosite asbestos were banned. In 2007, the Korean government announced a total ban on the manufacturing, importation and use of all kinds of asbestos, which took full effect in 2009. A total of 174 asbestos products information from KOSHA database was analyzed. Extruded cement panel for building, special brake for crane farm machinery, gasket, joint sheet and thermal insulator were produced until 2007. From automobile manufacturing plant survey, we confirmed that asbestos containing materials(ACM) such as gasket, heating induction materials have been used until 2011. Asbestos containing building materials(ACBM) such as bamlites, slate and ceiling tex were reported at 122 asbestos dismantling projects in 2014. Conclusion: Although the use of all kinds of asbestos were banned from 2009, ACMs and ACBMs installed before 2009 were still found at automobile manufacturing plant until 2011 and 2014 respectively. In particular, asbestos slates should be managed because most of slates had not been removed until 2014.

  • On July 5, 1997, environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan publicized the recycling regulation of waste home appliances that include four items, namely, television, refrigerator, washing machine, and air conditioner. It is believed that this regulation pioneers the law enforcement of waste home appliances in the world. To comply with tile policy, several contemporary waste disposal plants specialized in waste home appliances were established according to a follow-up technical specification oil the waste treatment facilities and methodology. Therefore, the traditional dismantling facilities were substituted and waste collection routes were altered as well accordingly. This study investigates the collection and recycling costs of waste home appliances in accordance with these newly established routes and facilities, respectively. Cost survey was conducted among collectors and recycling plants of waste home appliances; consequently, tire collection and recycling costs were analyzed, correspondingly. Results show that the recycling costs of waste home appliances were much higher than that of other waste items. Since the market share of recycled materials is lacking, these waste recycling plants of home appliances can only survive under the subsidy of EPA in Taiwan. Due to some arduous problems, the subsidiary system has already caused serious financial unbalance for a foundation under EPA of Taiwan, which associated with waste recycling in Taiwan.

  • The survey was conducted to investigate the relation between slaughter inspection results and the quality of cattle carcasses by inquiring animal products grading service results of Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation (KAPE) about partial-disposed cattle carcasses after dismantling inspection. Of the 13,586 slaughtered cattle, 1,343 (9.9%) cattle heads were partially disposed from January to August, 2012 at slaughterhouses in Gwangju area, Korea. Of the 1,343 partial disposed cattle, 613 (45.6%) cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1". Among partially disposed 1,171 Hanwoo heads, 613 (52.3%) cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1". However, none of dairy and beef cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1" out of 163 and 9 partial disposals, respectively. Of the 221 partial disposals by enteric fat necrosis, 139 carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1", and the ratio; 62.9% (P=0.001), was higher than that (50.3%) of total cattle carcass grade which is above "Grade 1". From these results, it is suggested that quality of cattle carcasses which is mainly determined by marbling might be related to the fatty lesions such as fatty liver and enteric fat necrosis.

  • Gang-foam is used in many construction projects because it is not only precise in terms of vertical, horizontal, and specifications, but also easy to install and dismantle. However, major accidents occur every year due to non-compliance with safety rules and work order, also manuals and checklists currently in use are insufficient. Thirty-seven surveys was conducted by analyzing major accident cases of domestic gang-form construction project and deriving 20 risk factors and 43 check points. Based on the survey, the importance and appropriateness of check points were evaluated. As a result of this study, a checklist was presented, check points were placed in the order of importance based on assembly, installation, dismantling, and lifting of the Gang-form process. The checklist was organized so that workers could comply with safety rules and work order. Through this, it is expected to prevent major accidents and contribute to efficient safety management.

  • The generation of construction waste can be divided into a decommissioning phase and a new construction phase, and most of the waste is generated at the decommissioning stage. However, recently, domestic new construction construction has expanded to 150 trillion yards per year, so construction work is increasing rapidly. Especially, as the size of the construction work with much waste of construction waste exceeds 100 trillion, the management of the amount of construction waste in the new construction site is required. Unlike the dismantling work site, the new construction site can separate waste generated by each property, and relatively low foreign matter content is generated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the amount of construction waste generated by new construction sites and to calculate the unit amount of construction waste based on this. In addition, since the existing unit cost is centered on concrete and mixed waste, we set the basic unit by setting synthetic resin, waste wood, and waste board as additional items. The basic unit survey was carried out to investigate the wastes according to the characteristics of each construction period. As a result of the survey, the new construction site showed that most wastes were discharged in the first 30% and after 70% of the process, and the ratio of mixed construction waste was as high as 45%. As a result of this study, it was found that about twice as much waste was produced as compared with the conventional standard product.

  • Many studies have been conducted on asset management of public facilities, as the importance of such management has been increasing. This basic study aims to present strategies for the practical use of public asset management, and seeks to propose efficient management and utilization measures from a cost perspective by comparing and analyzing the importance and impact relationship between cost items for public asset management. In this study, 19 sub-items and the top 4 items were chosen by deriving cost factors based on the previous literature. A survey was conducted, and the results of the survey were analyzed by using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) methods. The AHP was used to derive the priority between items, and ISM was used to identify major groups and mutual influences. As a result, those items showing both high priority and high importance, such as user cost, dismantling/disposal cost, replacement cost, maintenance/repair cost, etc. are determined as priority items to be considered for public asset management of public facilities. Also, it is necessary to minimize the impact on other items in public asset management by those items which are impacted less by other items but have significant impact on the items such as initial construction costs, conceptual design costs, construction costs, and supervision costs. It is expected that the results and analysis methods presented in this study can be used to provide strategies for asset management of public facilities.
