  • Disk type single phase switched reluctance motor which is a simple robust construction, simple control circuit and low manufacturing cost, has a characteristics of axial and radial flux machines. However, because this DSPSRM has a complicated magnetic circuit, it is difficult to analyze the design characteristics.. In this study, the calculation of design parameter based on the conventional design theory of electric machine and the characteristics analysis by computer simulation was performed. As the DSPSRM has the characteristics of both AFM and RFM, it is difficult to analyze its characteristics by the 2D FEM. 3D FEM was applied in the analysis of energy distribution and approximated calculation of torque characteristics with rotor positions. With analysis results, prototype of DSPSRM is manufactured.

  • For the purpose of improving accuracy in friction and wear test, a hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester was developed and its performance was evaluated experimentally. The performance estimation of the tribotesrer was accomplished by comparing both the consistency of the applied normal load and the robustness of the control against the mechanical disturbances with those of the pneumatic and the dead weight loading method respectively. The developed hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester showed the better reliability in the performance and the hydraulic loading method provided the more accurate friction coefficient.

  • For high voltage operation, a new type of piezoelectric transformer using radial vibration of disk, poled with the same direction was proposed. The piezoelectric ceramics was composed to PZT-PMN-PSN. The diameter and thickness of a disk type piezoelectric transformer were 45[mm]and 4[mm], respectively The surface ratio of driving electrode and generating electrode of the piezoelectric transformer was 2 : 1. The resonance characteristics of input admittance, step-up voltage ratio and power transmission efficiency of the piezoelectric transformer were measured by varying the load resistance(0.1∼70[kΩ]). As a result, both resonance frequency and step-up voltage ratio increased with increasing load resistance. The step-up voltage ratio was reached more than 60 times under no load resistance. The maximum efficiency of 97% at load resistance of 2kΩ was obtained.

  • Disk type Single Phase SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) can be used axial and radial direction magnetic flux. Therefore, the energy density per unit of volume is high and the axis can be shorter than that of any other motor. In this paper, the flux-linkage was measured according as rotor positions of disk type single phase SRM, which is designed and fabricated in previous studies. From the measured data, we got the magnetization curves, inductance profile, co-energy and torque. Also, we compared the value of the measurement with the value of analysis through 3D FEM simulation.

  • In this paper, a disk-type ultrasonic motor using a combination of radial and bending vibration modes is newly designed and fabricated. The characteristics of the test motor are also measured. By means of traveling elastic wave induced at the surface of circumference of the elastic disk, a steel bar in contact with the surface of circumference of the elastic disk bonded onto the piezoelectric ceramic disks is driven in both directions by changing the sine and cosine voltage inputs. The stator of the motor is composed of two sheets of piezoelectric ceramic disks to bond onto both surfaces of an elastic disk, respectively. As a result, the diameter of the elastic body is increased and the resonant frequency is decreased. The resonant frequency of the stator is about 92 kHz, which is composed with piezoelectric ceramic disks of 28 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, and an elastic body of 32 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness. A driving voltage of 20 VPP Produces 200 rpm with a torque of 1Nm and an efficiency of about 10%.

  • This technical note describes the calculation method of continuous constant linear velocity Archimedean spiral paths which are applied to the pin-on-disk abrasion test. Approximate constant linear velocity Archimedean spirals have unstable velocities in the very near region of the rotational origin. Thus, in this technical note, the offset distance from the rotational origin was given by using a hollow type rock sample to maintain the constant velocity during the test. Also, to connect the inward and outward spirals continuously, the information of start and end points were input on the next spiral path consecutively. Furthermore, the calculation program was developed to provide convenience for calculating constant linear velocity spirals according to the specimen dimension and abrasion test conditions.

  • We compared three EDTA-based phenotypic screening methods for detecting IMP-1 and VIM-2 type metallo-${\beta}$- lactamase (MBL)-producing isolates of Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas spp., EDTA-double disk synergy test (EDTADDST), Etest MBL, and imipenem (IPM)-EDTA disk test. A total of 183 isolates (65 Acinetobacter spp. and 118 Pseudomonas spp. showing IPM resistance), confirmed to MBL genes by PCR, were used. The criteria for MBL production were (i) presence of a synergistic zone between IPM and EDTA disks in EDTA-DDST, (ii) reduction of IPM minimal inhibitory concentration by ${\geq}$ 3 twofold dilutions in the presence of EDTA in the Etest MBL, and (iii) ${\geq}$ 7 mm increase in the inhibition zone around the IPM plus EDTA disks compared with a sole IPM disk in the IPM-EDTA disk test. In this study using 87 MBL-producing and 96 MBL-nonproducing isolates, the sensitivities/specificities of EDTA-DDST, Etest MBL and IPM-EDTA disk tests were 94.3/78.1%, 89.7/91.7%, and 97.7/95.8%, respectively. When the threshold for the increase of the inhibition zone around the IPM plus EDTA disk over a sole IPM disk was altered to ${\geq}$ 5 mm and ${\geq}$ 8 mm for Acinetobacter spp. and Pseudomonas spp., respectively, the sensitivity and specificity of the test were 98.9% and 96.9%, respectively. Of the three EDTA-based phenotypic tests, the IMP-EDTA disk test was superior for detection of MBL-producing isolates.

  • This paper describes a shaped-beam antenna for increasing the antenna gain of a radiating element. The proposed antenna structure is composed of an exciting element and a multi-layered disk array structure(MDAS). The stack micro-strip patch elements were used as the exciter for effectively radiating the electromagnetic power to the MDAS over the broadband, and finite metallic disk array elements - which give the role of a director for shaping the antenna beam with the high gain - were finitely and periodically layered onto it. The efficient power coupling between the exciter and the MDAS should be carried out in such a way that the proposed antenna has a high gain characteristic. The design parameters of the exciter and the MDAS should be optimized together to meet the required specifications to meet the required specifications. In this study, a shaped-beam antenna with high gain was optimally designed under the operating conditions with a linear polarization and the frequency band of $9.6{\sim}10.4\;GHz$. Two methods constructed using thin dielectric film and dielectric foam materials respectively were also proposed in order to implement the MBAS of the antenna. In particular, through the computer simulation process, the electrical performance variations of the antenna with the MDAS realized by the thin dielectric film materials were shown according to the number of disk array elements in the stack layer. Two kinds of antenna breadboard with the MDAS realized with the thin dielectric film and dielectric foam materials were fabricated, but experimentation was conducted only on the antenna breadboard(Type 1) with the MDAS realized with the thin dielectric film materials according to the number of disk array elements in the stack layer in order to compare it with the electrical performance variations obtained during the simulation. The measured antenna gain performance was found to be in good agreement with the simulated one, and showed the periodicity of the antenna gain variations according to the stack layer number of the disk array elements. The electrical performance of the Type 1 antenna was measured at the center frequency of 10 GHz. As the disk away elements became the ten stacks, a maximum antenna gain of 15.65 dBi was obtained, and the measured return loss was not less than 11.4 dB within the operating band. Therefore, a 5 dB gain improvement of the Type 1 antenna can be obtained by the MDAS that is excited by the stack microstrip patch elements. As the disk array elements became the twelve stacks, the antenna gain of the Type 1 was measured to be 1.35 dB more than the antenna gain of the Type 2 by the outer dielectric ring effect, and the 3 dB beam widths measured from the two antenna breadboards were about $28^{\circ}$ and $36^{\circ}$ respectively.

  • In this study, friction tests were carried out in order to investigate the friction behavior of textured surface in unlubricated state using ball-on-disk type apparatus. Test specimens were SUJ2 bearing steel ball and SM45C steel disk. Square arrays of circular micro-dimples were created on the surface of disk specimen by Nd:YAG Laser. Friction tests were performed for the disk specimen with various micro-dimple parameters and was also conducted for the variation of normal loads and relative velocities. The results showed that fiction coefficient of textured surface was lower than that of non-textured surface and the deeper depth of micro-dimple was, the lower friction coefficient obtained at the same diameter of micro-dimple in unlubricated state. Area density of micro-dimple had an effect on the friction coefficient. It was also found that friction coefficient generally decreased with the increase of normal load and relative velocity.
