  • Location service is usually provided by the GPS method using satellites. In the next generation mobile communication systems which use smart antennas, location service can be accomplished using direction of arrival (DOA) estimation techniques. In this paper, we propose a DOA estimation technique for the location service of the next generation mobile communication systems and investigate the validity of the proposed technique through computer simulation. First, DOA estimation problems of distributed sources are considered using vortical and horizontal array processors which are orthogonal to each other. The DOA of the elevation angle is estimated by the vertical array processor and then that of the azimuth angle is estimated by the horizontal array processor. Finally, the procedures of the location service for specific signal sources using three smart antennas are exhibited by computer simulation to show that the proposed DOA estimation technique can be used for the location service in the next generation mobile communication systems.

  • Maximum likelihood(ML) diretion-of-arrival(DOA) estimation is essentially optimization of multivariable nonlinear cost function. Since the final estimate is highly dependent on the initial estimate, an initialization is critical in nonlinear optimization. We propose a multi-dimensional(M-D) search scheme of uniform exhaustive search and improved exhaustive search. Improved exhaustive search is superior to uniform exhaustive search in terms of the computational complexity and the accuracy of the estimates.

  • The safety of a tunnel under seismic motion is most often evaluated by ovalling deformation of tunnel. This paper research about tunnel's longitudinal deformation. Because of spatial variation of seismic ground motion, the longitudinal structures like tunnel are likely to experience relative displacements along longitudinal direction. The spatially variable ground motion can be estimated by coherency function obtained empirically, and can be considered from different arrival times of ground motion. As a result of estimating tunnel's relative displacements at maximum curvature of tunnel, the displacements and curvatures estimated by coherency function affect the tunnel's safety more than different arrival times. However, if tunnel's displacements by coherency function superpose on displacements by different arrival times, the relative displacements and curvatures of tunnel will be more severe. Therefore, to estimate accurately tunnel's deformation in longitudinal direction has to consider both coherency and wave passage effects.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new direction finding(DF) technology using TDOA(time-difference of arrival) and PDOA(phase difference of arriving signal) method. The proposed technology has a good DF accuracy without DF ambiguity. TDOA or PDOA technology is used to the most of intelligence systems in 21 century. The principle of TDOA is to receive a signal with two parallel antennas, measure the time difference of arrival signal, and converse the time difference to the direction of incident signal. Those technology make a DF system small size but the DF accuracy is low into short antenna installation distance. The principle of PDOA is similar to TDOA except measuring the phase difference of arrival signal, These technology get a good DF accuracy in short antenna installation distance but have a DF ambiguity. The proposed DF method is simulated into DF system operation environment with noise, and has a good DF accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to improve the performance of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of a speech source using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based algorithm. Basically, the proposed algorithm utilizes a complex coefficient band pass filter to generate the narrow band signals for signal analysis. Also, reverberation component reduction and quadratic function-based response approximation in MUSIC spatial spectrum are utilized to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the well-known generalized cross-correlation (GCC)-based DOA estimation algorithm in the aspect of the estimation error and success rate, respectively.Abstract should be placed here. • It is difficult to detect and to track the moving targets like tanks and diesel vehicles due to the variety of terrain and moving of targets. It is possible to be happened the aliasing conditions as the difficulty of antenna deployment in the complex environment like the battle fields. In this paper, we study the problem of detecting and tracking of moving targets which are emitting wideband signals under severe spatial aliasing conditions because of the sparse arrays. We developed a direction of arrival(DOA) estimation algorithm based on subband MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) method which produces high-resolution estimation. In this algorithm, the true bearings are invariant regardless of changes of frequency bands while the aliased false bearings vary. As a result, the proposed algorithm overcomes the aliasing effects and improves the localization performance in sparse passive arrays.

  • The optimization techniques are explored in the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation based on single acoustic pressure gradient vector sensor (APGVS). By analyzing the working principle and measurement errors of the APGVS, acoustic intensity approaches (AI) and the minimum variance distortionless response beamforming approach based on single APGVS (VMVDR) are deduced. The radius to wavelength ratio of the APGVS must be not bigger than 0.1 in the actual application, otherwise its DOA estimation performance will degrade significantly. To improve the robustness and estimation performance of the DOA estimation approaches based on single APGVS, two modified processing approaches based on single APGVS are presented. Simulation and lake trial results indicate that the performance of the modified approaches based on single APGVS are better than AI and VMVDR approaches based on single APGVS when the radius to wavelength ratio is not bigger than 0.1, and the two modified DOA estimation methods have excellent estimation performance when the radius to wavelength ratio is bigger than 0.1.

  • This paper shows the extension of SpSF (Sparse Spectrum Fitting) algorithm, which is one of covariance matrix fitting-based DOA (Direction-of-Arrival) estimation algorithms, from the time domain to the frequency domain, and presents that SpSF can be implemented in the frequency domain. The superiority of the SpSF algorithm has been demonstrated by comparing DOA estimation performance with the performance of Conventional DOA estimation algorithm in the frequency domain for sinusoidal incident signals.

  • This paper studies measurement of sonic boom created by supersonic flight and its arrival angle estimation techniques. Since sonic boom propagates as an impulsive noise and includes infrasound frequency, we propose measurement instrumentation acquiring sonic boom signature without distortion. And we suggest the methodology for an arrival angle estimation with its performance analysis in accordance with sensor array configurations. The performance of our estimator is verified by comparing theoretical performance bound with statistics of its Monte-Carlo simulation results. Furthermore, we presents the analysis of the sonic boom measurement from real flight tests. This work provides an intuitive concept for sensor array configurations and measurement instrumentation.

This paper presented covariance using constraint matrix to correlation interference signal cancellation in multi input multi output array antennas system. we proposed a target direction of arrival estimation algorithm using cost function and minimum variance method. Through simulation, we were analysis a performance to compare general SPT-LCMV algorithm and proposal algorithm. We showed that proposal algorithm improve more target estimation than general SPT-LCMV algorithm in direction of arrival.
