  • Randomized response technique is a survey technique for eliminating evasive answer bias. This technique is popular in social survey for sensitive issues. In this paper we present a simple and obvious procedure for estimating the population proportion of a sensitive group. Here, we shows the weak point in the method of Kim and Warde (2005). Also, it is found that the proposed procedure is more efficient than the ones of Warner (1965) and Kim and Warde (2005). Lastly we discuss the conditions that the suggested method will be more efficienct.

  • In Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access(DS/CDMA) communication systems, it is important to contraol the power of reverse link channel evenly for overall channel capacity. To control the reverse link powers efficiently, it is necessary to estimate signal quality of each reverse link channel. In this paper, we discuss a method to estimate the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) for each channel by measuring the powers of pilot and noises. Computer simulations are done to show the effectiveness of the scheme.

  • The accelerated failure time model or accelerated life model relates the logarithm of the failure time linearly to the covariates. The parameters in the model provides a direct interpretation. In this paper, we review some newly developed practically useful estimation and inference methods for the model in the analysis of right censored data.

  • We consider the problem of determining conductivity of the medium from the measurements of the electric potential on the boundary and the corresponding current flux across the boundary. We give a formula for reconstructing the conductivity and its normal derivative at the point of the boundary simultaneously from the localized Diichlet to Neumann map around that point.

  • In this paper, a left module over an associative ring with identity is defined to be openly semiprimitive (strongly semiprimitive, respectively) by the zero intersection of all maximal open fully invariant submodules (all maximal open submodules which are fully invariant, respectively) of it. For any projective module, the openly semiprimitivity of the projective module is an equivalent condition of the semiprimitivity of endomorphism ring of the projective module and the strongly semiprimitivity of the projective module is an equivalent condition of the endomorphism ring of the projective module being a sub direct product of a set of subdivisions of division rings.

  • We present an algorithm for computing the Hausdorff distance between two parametric curves in $\mathbb{R}^n$, or more generally between two sets of parametric curves in $\mathbb{R}^n$. During repeated subdivision of the parameter space, we prune subintervals that cannot contain an optimal point. Typically, our algorithm costs O(logM) operations, compared with O(M) operations for a direct, brute-force method, to achieve an accuracy of $O(M^{-1})$.

  • The Proximity Service, which is one of the most popular network capacity improvement methods, uses the frequency reuse in order to increase the frequency efficiency. As a result, inter-cell interference between cellular and proximity service users occurs at a cell edge. In this paper, we proposed a mitigation scheme for inter-cell interference, where we suggested a new function of and eNB with ProSe function exchanging information about ProSe parameters and ProSe user equipment with neighboring cells via the X2 interface. As the first step, the resource which did not cause the inter-cell interference problem were pre-allocated through the frequency sensing in the ProSe direct discovery. As the next step, the inter-cell interference problem was solved by reallocating appropriate resources based on the ProSe application code, the ProSe application QoS, the ProSe application ID and validity timer in ProSe direct communication.

  • Researches for oceans are limited to military purpose such as underwater sound detection and tracking system. Underwater acoustic communications with low-probability-of-interception (LPI) covert characteristics were received much attention recently. Covert communications are conducted at a low received signal-to-noise ratio to prevent interception or detection by an eavesdropper. This paper proposed optimal covert communication model based on direct sequence spread spectrum for underwater environments. Spread spectrum signals may be used for data transmission on underwater acoustic channels to achieve reliable transmission by suppressing the detrimental effect of interference and self-interference due to jamming and multipath propagation. The characteristics of the underwater acoustic channel present special problems in the design of covert communication systems. To improve performance and probability of interception, we applied BCJR(Bahl, Cocke, Jelinek, Raviv) decoding method and the direct sequence spread spectrum technology in low SNR. Also, we compared the performance between conventional model and proposed model based on turbo equalization by simulation and lake experiment.

  • A power line modem(PLM) which transfers data safely through power lines in houses or small offices is considered. When a power line is used for communications, transmitted signals could be affected by the channel characteristics such as frequency-selective fading, interference, and time-varying attenuation. In order to overcome these impairments, a direct sequence(DS) technique which is well known as an effective instrument against a variety of interferences and hostile channel properties is employed. Using a DS technique, however, requires more circuits such as PN code generator circuits, code modification circuits, and complicated synchronization circuits, and it also results in substantial acquisition delay. In this paper, some of these circuits are implemented via software programmed in the system controller, and the complicated synchronization circuits are replaced by simple circuits utilizing a 60 Hz power signal for synchronization. The synchronization ciruits used in this paper virtually eliminate the substantial acquisition delay, and is also designed to free influence of 60 Hz zero crossing jitters which reside in a power signal. As a result, a PLM using a DS technique is realized in the form of wall-socket plug, and the PLM hardware would be very much simplified.

  • The chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technique that spreads the data signal over a wider frequency band via chirp signal for transmission has attracted much attention in the field of wireless communications due to capability to resist multipath fading signals. However, there has been little mathematical analysis for the performance of CSS-based communication systems in the multipath fading environments. In this paper, we study the influence of the multipath channel on the direct modulation (DM) scheme with M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK). When a chirp signal is transmitted on the Rayleigh fading channel and affected by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), we derive the theoretical performance. From numerical results, it is confirmed that the analytic symbol error rate (SER) agrees closely with the empirical SER.
