Analysis of MODIS cloud masking algorithm using direct broadcast data over Korea and its improvement

  • The information on the cloud presence within a instantaneous field of view is the first step toward the derivation of many other geophysical parameters. Here, we first applied the current MODIS cloud detection algorithm developed by University of Wisconsin and compared the results to a visual interpretation of composite data, especially during the daytime. Most of cases, the detection algorithm performs very well, except a few cases with over-detection. One of the reasons for the false detection is due to the time independent use of land information which affects the threshold values of visible channel test. In the presentation, we show detailed analysis of the current cloud detection algorithm and suggest possible way to overcome the current shortfall.

  • This study was to analyze the gambling media system, one of important factors in horse racing industry. The purpose of this study is to show a vision in special field of horse racing industry, which is examined as comparative analysis on domestic and foreign gambling media system in terms of Large Technological Systems by Hughes(1987). This study approaches in two different viewpoints. First, this study is to conceptualize the subjects of study in Large Technological System. Second, this study is to show common factors and differences on domestic and foreign gambling media system through conceptualization. This paper shows vision and implications like faster decision-making by authority's direct operating, competitive content development, future policy in accordance with the international open-door policy and broadcasting convergence for the balanced development of horse industry through the gambling media system, analyzing reverse salient which is the barrier of domestic gambling media system from comparative study.

  • 비디오 프레임 내의 오버레이 텍스트는 음성과 시각적 내용에 부가적인 정보를 제공한다. 특히, 뉴스 비디오에서 이 텍스트는 비디오 영상 내용을 압축적이고 직접적인 설명을 한다. 그러므로 뉴스 비디오 색인 시스템을 만드는데 있어서 가장 신뢰할 수 있는 실마리이다. 텔레비전 뉴스 프로그램의 색인 시스템을 만들기 위해서는 텍스트를 검출하고 인식하는 것이 중요하다. 이 논문은 뉴스 비디오에서 오버레이 텍스트를 검출하고 인식하는데 도움이 되는 오버레이 텍스트 시작 프레임 식별을 제안한다. 비디오 시퀀스의 모든 프레임이 오버레이 텍스트를 포함하는 것이 아니기 때문에, 모든 프레임에서 오버레이 텍스트의 추출은 불필요하고 시간 낭비다. 그러므로 오버레이 텍스트를 포함하고 있는 프레임에만 초점을 맞춤으로써 오버레이 텍스트 검출의 정확도를 개선할 수 있다. 텍스트 시작 프레임 식별 방법에 대한 비교 실험을 뉴스 비디오에 대해서 실시하고, 적절한 처리 방법을 제안한다.

  • N-Screen service has experienced rapid business expansion recently, since consumers' watching patterns have been diversified; also business stakeholders including broadcasting companies, internet service providers, and device manufacturers have joined this field. In order to operate N-Screen service in a stable manner, development of advertisement system where it generates continuous advertisement profit is needed. Especially for a streaming service that delivers live TV programs, the new advertising system has to deliver ads in conjunction with the live streaming system that is in use. In this paper, video advertising system that is congenial to N-Screen is proposed. Both real time video/ad converting scheme and direct video ads delivery function were developed and tested. In addition, ad contents management and statistics management functions have been developed for advertisement managers. This system was implemented in a commercial N-Screen service and it is currently being used for delivering video advertisements.

  • Changes in political and economic environments require a new concept of 'culture' and a paradigm shift in cultural policies. Especially, broadcasting is needed to construct a productive infra-structure in order to play its role as culture industry in multi-channel environments caused by the progress of digital technology. In addition, Korea-USA FTA Agreement and a subsequently expected open policy of broadcasting market raise issues of a flow of foreign capital and a compatibility of cultural diversities and cultural identities. From this perspective, this study attempts to suggest alternatives for cultural diversity of program contents in new global media environments. More specifically, these alternatives examine the meaning and achievements of co-production of broadcasting programs as an active and direct method to preserve cultural identities and universalities of cultural contents at the same time. Details of this study are as follows: thorough review of internation co-production and program format industries and their possibilities to overcome cultural harriers and to provide local alternatives.

  • Cooperative diversity is a cooperative technique which exploits user diversity by decoding the combined signal of the relayed signal and the direct signal in wireless multi-hop networks. Using the cooperation, the performance of the network system can be improved because cooperative diversity which is very strong against the fading channels can be achieved. In this paper, we propose the technique that provides the enhanced visual quality of the reconstructed video using the cooperative diversity with the FMO which is the error resilience tool of H.264/AVC standardization over wireless networks. The eye-tracker can detect the gaze point of user and transmit the gaze information to the nodes. After receiving the gaze information of user, each node performs ROI encoding according to the received gaze information. After encoding, video sources are divided into ROI and Non-ROI. Through the simulation results, the better visual quality of the reconstructed video is achieved when ROI and Non-ROI are transmitted through different channels.

  • In accordance with the digital broadcast data converted, the number of the service provider, and content channel for interaction with the viewer has increased exponentially. Electronic program guide in such a multi-channel time(Electronic Program Guide, EPG) is an essential requirement, and also from day to day EPG generation technique according to the user's requirements. But the current situation is getting EPG to viewers outside for reasons such as absence, lack of accurate information, organizing techniques utilized lack of standard systems. In this article, we describe the State and EPG solution to the problem of these terrestrial stations. This, the EPG information and the actual broadcast time of the terrestrial channel 6 using a ground wave receiving method for a direct comparison was studied the problems and the average error of the current start. Also this research perform to enhance accuracy of EPG information.

Heterogeneous Resolution Stereo Video Coding System (이종 해상도 스테레오 비디오 코딩 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose an effective stereo-view video coding method that considers stereo-view and displayer characteristics. Current many stereo video displayers are designed for not only stereo display but also conventional single view display. In these systems, the resolution of two input videos for a stereo mode is half of that of single view for compatibility with conventional single view video services. In this raper, we propose a stereo video codec to deal with both single view and stereo view services by encoding whole left image and down-sampled right image. However, direct disparity estimation is not possible between two views because the resolution of a left image is different from that of the corresponding right image. So, we propose a disparity estimation method to make use of full information of the left reference image without down-sampling. In experimental result, we achieved $0.5{\sim}0.8\;dB$ coding gain, compared with several conventional algorithms.

  • This study classified the different types of service attributes being provided through cable VOD services and looked at how the key service attribute types affect the willingness to use paid VOD for each group of paid and non-experienced users. Studies have shown that for a group of non-experienced people, 'content information-oriented attributes' have the greatest impact, and for a group of experienced people, 'convenience-oriented attributes' have the greatest impact. Thus, expanding users of paid VOD services requires setting up step-by-step strategies that match their respective collective characteristics. For a group of non-experienced people, it is necessary to take a direct persuasion strategy through the provision of relevant information and an indirect approach strategy through the expansion of promotion opportunities, and for an experienced group, a strategy to expand functional convenience.

Dynamic Reconstruction Algorithm of 3D Volumetric Models (3D 볼류메트릭 모델의 동적 복원 알고리즘)

  • The latest volumetric technology's high geometrical accuracy and realism ensure a high degree of correspondence between the real object and the captured 3D model. Nevertheless, since the 3D model obtained in this way constitutes a sequence as a completely independent 3D model between frames, the consistency of the model surface structure (geometry) is not guaranteed for every frame, and the density of vertices is very high. It can be seen that the interconnection node (Edge) becomes very complicated. 3D models created using this technology are inherently different from models created in movie or video game production pipelines and are not suitable for direct use in applications such as real-time rendering, animation and simulation, and compression. In contrast, our method achieves consistency in the quality of the volumetric 3D model sequence by linking re-meshing, which ensures high consistency of the 3D model surface structure between frames and the gradual deformation and texture transfer through correspondence and matching of non-rigid surfaces. And It maintains the consistency of volumetric 3D model sequence quality and provides post-processing automation.
