  • Let M be a Fano manifold, and H🟉(M; ℂ) be the quantum cohomology ring of M with the quantum product 🟉. For 𝜎 ∈ H🟉(M; ℂ), denote by [𝜎] the quantum multiplication operator 𝜎🟉 on H🟉(M; ℂ). It was conjectured several years ago [7,8] and has been proved for many Fano manifolds [1,2,10,14], including our cases, that the operator [c1(M)] has a real valued eigenvalue 𝛿0 which is maximal among eigenvalues of [c1(M)]. Galkin's lower bound conjecture [6] states that for a Fano manifold M, 𝛿0 ≥ dim M + 1, and the equality holds if and only if M is the projective space ℙn. In this note, we show that Galkin's lower bound conjecture holds for Lagrangian and orthogonal Grassmannians, modulo some exceptions for the equality.

  • For a nondegenerate projective irreducible variety $X{\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^r$, it is a natural problem to find an upper bound for the value of $${\ell}_{\beta}(X)=max\{length(X{\cap}L){\mid}L={\mathbb{P}}^{\beta}{\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^r,\;{\dim}(X{\cap}L)=0\}$$ for each $1{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}e$. When X is locally Cohen-Macaulay, A. Noma in [10] proves that ${\ell}_{\beta}(X)$ is at most $d-e+{\beta}$ where d and e are respectively the degree and the codimension of X. In this paper, we construct some surfaces $S{\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^5$ of degree $d{\in}\{7,{\ldots},12\}$ which satisfies the inequality $${\ell}_2(S){\geq}d-3+{\lfloor}{\frac{d}{2}}{\rfloor}$$. This shows that Noma's bound is no more valid for locally non-Cohen-Macaulay varieties.

  • The modern society has been experiencing a cultural quickening that is accompanied by the rapid social, political and economical changes. In the dim chaos where the future is uncertain, the modern women are gradually discovering the value and meaning of their existences in the society. The fashion and make-up Christian Dior presented in the Haute Couture collections suggest us various genres from which the remarkable creative and artistic accomplishments canbe found. This study is to examine the characteristics of make-up techniques used by Christian Dior for the Haute Couture collections after 2003 S/S. The conclusion of this study is as follows. The make-up trend in the Haute Couture collections suggest that the make-up today is not simply to decorate a face beautifully. The make-up has become a new art form for the modern women to express their various originality and creativity while linking it to the social and cultural elements.

  • This paper proposed methods of filament preheating to extend a fluorescent lamp life. The ballast for the fluorescent lamp can be classified into two main groups magnetics and electronics. The electronic ballast is lighter and smaller than the magnetic ballast and it can dim up and down. There are two ways to start the fluorescent lamp in the electronic ballast: rapid start and instant start. Also there are two methods of the driving inverter self excited oscillation and force excited oscillation. The rapid starting is different from the instant starting in that the rapid start is preheating the filament before the steady state. If there is a preheating process before the lamp ignition, the life of the fluorescent lamp can be increased. This paper presented the preheating methods for self excited oscillating system and force excited oscillating system.

  • Let the circle act on a compact almost complex manifold M with a non-empty discrete fixed point set. To each fixed point, there are associated non-zero integers called weights. A positive weight w is called primitive if it cannot be written as the sum of positive weights, other than w itself. In this paper, we show that if every weight is primitive, then the Todd genus Todd(M) of M is positive and there are $Todd(M){\cdot}2^n$ fixed points, where dim M = 2n. This generalizes the result for symplectic semi-free actions by Tolman and Weitsman [8], the result for semi-free actions on almost complex manifolds by the author [6], and the result for certain symplectic actions by Godinho [1].

  • Let G be a reductive algebraic group and let B, F be G-modules. We denote by $VEC_{G}$ (B, F) the set of isomorphism classes in algebraic G-vector bundles over B with F as the fiber over the origin of B. Schwarz (or Karft-Schwarz) shows that $VEC_{G}$ (B, F) admits an abelian group structure when dim B∥G = 1. In this paper, we introduce a stable functor $VEC_{G}$ (B, $F^{\chi}$) and prove that it is an abelian group for any G-module B. We also show that this stable functor will have nice properties.

  • Slow movement of snail can be a benefit since it means less speed of tracking is required to get accurate movement track, but in the other side it is difficult to extract the object because the snail is almost as static as the background. In this paper, we present a technique to track the snail by using one of its common characteristic, dark color of its shell. The technique needs to be robust to illumination change since the experiment is usually to observe the movement of snail both at bright and dim condition. Snail position coordinate in 3D space is calculated using orthogonal stereo vision which combines the information from two images taken from cameras at the top and in front of the aquarium. Experimental results show this technique does not need prior background image extraction and robust to gradual or sudden illumination change.

  • The anti-proliferating effects of some plants on hepatoma cell lines were studied by the 3-[4,5-dim-ethylthiazol-2yl]-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT assay), to investigate the anticancer effect with some plants around here. As the result, we saw that the anti-prolferating effect to the plants. Among the plants, Equisetum arvense L. and Lactuca dentata Makino. var, flaviflora Makino of them relatively showed a good ant-proliferating effect. Capsicum annuum L. var. angulosum Mill (Leaf) was the best among them. We also examined morphological changes on the hepatoma cells in this process. In case of Capxicum annuum L. var. angulosum Mill, the tells become vague after 2 days, and then destroyed faster than others. We can fee also the condensated chromosome on the treated cells with Capxicum annuum L. var. angulosum Mill. And we also observed condensation through using a fluorescent microscope by PI staining, and observed DNA fragmentation.

  • This paper aims to investigate the actual conditions of the fishing villages and the attitudes of fishery workers. In this study, field research, interview method, and survey research method are utilized. The regions of this research are 4 fishing villages of the Yellow Sea coast and the survey data are collected from 119 fishermen. The results show that the fishery industry has come to a crisis due to the staggering fish catches and fishery income, increasing expenditures am debt, continuous decrease in numbers of fishery workers, etc. In addition, the work morale of the fishermen appears to be very low. They take a dim view of fishery industry and their household financial status. They perceive that their qualities of life are very low as well. The implications of these findings far comprehensive development of fishing villages are then discussed.

  • Suppose X is a closed subspace of Z = ${({{\Sigma}^{\infty}}_{n=1}Z_{n})}_{p}$ (1 < p < ${\infty}$, dim $Z_{n}$ < ${\infty}$). We investigate an isometrically isomorphic embedding of L(X)/K(X) into L(X, Z)/K(X, Z), where L(X, Z) (resp. L(X)) is the space of the bounded linear operators from X to Z (resp. from X to X) and K(X, Z) (resp. K(X)) is the space of the compact linear operators from X to Z (resp. from X to X).
