  • Traditionally, gingival retraction has been performed to obtain customized abutment impressions with subgingival margins of the implant supported prosthesis. However, gingival retraction may have side effects such as gingival recession and bleed, leading to an inaccurate impression. In order to prevent these problems, in this case, the new technique has been introduced; a customized abutment which is designed for superimposition is used. Before the connection of the abutment to the implant fixture, pre-scanned shape data are stored, and then the optical impression without gingival retraction is obtained after connecting to the fixture. The suprastructure is fabricated by superimposing the two data. This technique showed the clinical efficacy of fabricating the implant supported prosthesis with subgingival margin, which satisfied the aesthetics, convenience, and clinically acceptable marginal and internal fit.

  • This study was designed to development of stock tray for Korean. The subjects for this study were 374 persons(male : 204, female : 170) with age $19{\sim}28$. The study models were made with irreversible hydrocolloid impression material and conventional stock tray, Individual trays were made on the study model and the master models were made after impression with polysulfide rubber impression material. Each of the master models measured 12 measuring points on the maxillary model and 13 measuring points on the mandibular model with digital sliding caliper. The values were analyzed statistically by SAS analysis. The measuring points were analysed and were consulted for the development of new stock tray for Korean. Maxillary models were divided into four groups acceding to the width between buccal alveolar ridges below the contact point of first molar and second molar. The size of new tray of the upper first group was 82mm (width), 60mm(length). That of the upper second group was 77mm (width), 59mm (length). That of the upper third group was 72mm (width), 58mm (length). And that of the upper fourth group was 67mm (width), 57mm (length). Mandibular models were devided into three group according to the width between lingual alveolar ridges below the second molar. The size of new tray on lower first group was 40mm (width), 55mm (length). That of the lower second group was 36mm (width), 55mm (length). And that of the third group was 32mm (width), 55mm (length). The author tested the fitness of newly designed stock tray in 52 subjects with normal occlusion and obtained good results that the problems of conventional stock tray were worked out.

  • Objectives : In physiognomy, human emotion such as joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure in social relation is one of important factors for impression formation. Various emotional feelings exert significant influence on the endocrine action and the muscle activities as well as changes of one's impression, which results in changes of one's life. On the other hand, such alterations in life may also bring changes of one's impression. The method of physiognomic examination is not different from the inspecting colors that makes a diagnosis of physical conditions. Thus, based on "Yeongchu Ohseak(靈樞 五色)", the present study compares similarities and differences between the two views of the physiognomy and the Korean medicine. Methods : The similarities and differences between the two approaches will be compared to each other and analysed with the respect to inspecting colors suggested by preceding research in physiognomy and "Yeongchu Ohseak(靈樞 五色)". Results & Conclusions : From this study, we found physiognomy and the Korean medicine shares the same theoretical background. The differences that we found in the present study are as follow. The inspection diagnosis in the Korean medicine focuses on the prevention and treatment of diseases; however, physiognomy focuses on the prognostication of one's life in order to lead a happy life. As the ultimate goals of the two approaches differ with each other, it is peculiarly challenging to compare these two in detail. Therefore, the future study should address physiognomy as a part of the Korean medicine so that the Korean medicine can contribute to mankind for a better and healthy human life.

  • PURPOSE. The objective was to evaluate canine positions, intercanine tip width (ICTW) and width of distal surface of canine (WDC), related to facial landmarks including interalar width (IAW), intercommissural width (ICoW), and distance between left and right projection lines drawn from inner canthus of eyes to alae of the nose (DPICa) in a group of Thai. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred Thai subjects aged 18-35 years were selected. IAW and ICoW were measured on subject's face using digital vernier caliper. Irreversible hydrocolloid impression of the upper arch was taken, and a cast was poured with dental stone. Silicone impression material was used to take imprint of the incisal edge of upper six anterior teeth. DPICa was obtained from the subject's face using custom-made measuring equipment and marked on the silicone incisal imprint. The marks were then transferred from the imprint to the stone cast and measured with digital caliper. The ICTW and WDC were also measured on the stone cast. Pearson's correlation was used to determine the correlation. RESULTS. The results revealed that the correlation between ICTW-ICoW was 0.429 and ICTW-DPICa was 0.573. The correlation between WDC-ICoW was 0.426 and WDC-DPICa was 0.547. However, IAW did not show any correlation with ICTW or WDC (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The correlation between canine position and facial landmarks was found. ICTW and WDC had relationship with ICoW and DPICa. DPICa showed stronger correlation with the position of maxillary canine than that of ICoW.

  • As digital technology has advanced in the field of dentistry, the use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) has brought changes to the stages of dental treatment. The use of CAD/CAM technology in dental restoration offers clinical efficiency and convenience by reducing production time and appointment intervals, while also simplifying the fabrication process to reduce errors. In this case, digital replication and printing of temporary teeth were used to aid a patient with complex medical histories and physical disabilities. The final impression obtained with silicone impression material included information on the vertical dimension, centric relation, and the angle and length of the anterior teeth, which shortened the production time and appointment intervals and increased patient satisfaction. The final restoration was fabricated using milling and monolithic disc techniques, demonstrating appropriate stability, retention, and support, resulting in functional and aesthetic satisfaction.

  • Background/Aims: Digital single-operator cholangioscopy (DSOC)-guided mapping biopsy (DMB) and tube-assisted mapping biopsy (TMB) are two techniques used for preoperative evaluation of biliary tract cancer (BTC). However, data regarding the diagnostic performance of these techniques are limited. Methods: We retrospectively examined consecutive patients with BTC who underwent either technique at our institution between 2018 and 2020. We evaluated the technical success rate, adequate tissue acquisition rate, and diagnostic performance of these techniques for the evaluation of lateral spread of BTC. Results: A total of 54 patients were included in the study. The technical success rate of reaching the target sites was 95% for DMB and 100% for TMB. The adequate tissue acquisition rate was 61% for DMB and 69% for TMB. The adequate tissue acquisition rate was low, especially for target sites beyond the secondary biliary radicles. The sensitivity of DMB alone was 39%, which improved to 65% when combined with visual impression. Experts demonstrated a higher negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy with respect to both DSOC visual impression and DMB for the evaluation of lateral spread of BTC compared to trainees. Conclusions: Adequate tissue acquisition rates were similar between the two techniques. Since DMB requires expertise, TMB may be an acceptable option when DSOC is unavailable or when DSOC expertise is limited.

  • Immediate implant placement and restoration have the advantage of shortening the treatment period and maintaining aesthetics until final restoration. However, single implant restoration in the maxillary anterior region may be aesthetically difficult, and surgical trauma delivered to soft and hard tissues during implant placement may affect future aesthetic results. In order to obtain predictable results during anterior implant placement and restoration, surgery and restoration plans must consider the height of the interdental bone, characteristics of the gingiva, and morphological characteristics of the patient's teeth. In this case, we attempted to reproduce the emergence profile and stabilized soft tissue through gingiva modification and digital impression of a labially placed maxillary anterior implant in a patient who desired porcelain fused-metal (PFM) restoration due to economic issues.

  • The main purpose of a spatial audio system is to give a listener the same impression as if he/she were present in a recorded environment. A dummy head microphone is generally used for such purposes. Because of its human-like shape, we can obtain good spatial sound images. However, its shape is a restriction on its public use and it is difficult to convert a 2-channel recording into multi-channel signals for an efficient rendering over a multi-speaker arrangement. In order to solve the problems mentioned above, a spatial audio system is proposed that uses multiple microphones on a rigid sphere. The system has five microphones placed on special points of the rigid sphere, and it generates audio signals for headphone, stereo, stereo dipole, 4-channel, and 5-channel reproduction environments. Subjective localization experiments show that front/back confusion, which is a common limitation of spatial audio systems using the dummy head microphone, can be reduced dramatically in 4-channel and 5-channel reproduction environments and can be reduced slightly in a headphone reproduction.
