Effect of Heat Treatment Conditions on Corrosion and Hydrogen Diffusion Behaviors of Ultra-Strong Steel Used for Automotive Applications

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of conditions for quenching and/or tempering on the corrosion and hydrogen diffusion behavior of ultra-strong automotive steel in terms of the localized plastic strain related to the dislocation density, and the precipitation of iron carbide. In this study, a range of analytical and experimental methods were deployed, such as field emission-scanning electron microscopy, electron back scatter diffraction, electrochemical permeation technique, slow-strain rate test (SSRT), and electrochemical polarization test. The results showed that the hydrogen diffusion parameters involving the diffusion kinetics and hydrogen solubility, obtained from the permeation experiment, could not be directly indicative of the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement (HE) occurring under the condition with low hydrogen concentration. The SSRT results showed that the partitioning process, leading to decrease in localized plastic strain and dislocation density in the sample, results in a high resistance to HE-induced by aqueous corrosion. Conversely, coarse iron carbide, precipitated during heat treatment, weakened the long-term corrosion resistance. This can also be a controlling factor for the development of ultra-strong steel with superior corrosion and HE resistance.

Edge Enhanced Error Diffusion Based on Local Average of Original Image

  • The error diffusion is a good method to reconstruct the continuous tones of an image to the bilevel tones However the reconstruction of edge characteristic by the nor diffusion is represented work when power spectrum is analyzed fer display error. In this paper, we present an edge enhanced error diffusion method to preprocess original image to achieve the enhancement for the edge characteristic. The preprocessing algorithm consist of two processes. First the difference value between the current pixel and the local average of the surrounding pixel in original image is obtained. Second, the weighting function is composed by the magnitude and the sign of the local average. To confirm the effect of the proposed method, it is compared with the conventional edge enhanced error diffusion methods by measuring the radially averaged power spectrum densities (RAPSDs) for their display errors. The comparison result demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the conventional ones.

A mathematical model of blood flow and convective diffusion processes in constricted bifurcated arteries

  • Of concern in the present theoretical investigation is the study of blood flow and convection-dominated diffusion processes in a model bifurcated artery under stenotic conditions. The geometry of the bifurcated arterial segment having constrictions in both the parent and its daughter arterial lumen frequently appearing in the diseased arteries causing malfunction of the cardiovascular system, is constructed mathematically with the introduction of suitable curvatures at the lateral junction and the flow divider. The streaming blood contained in the bifurcated artery is treated to be Newtonian. The flow dynamical analysis applies the two-dimensional unsteady incompressible nonlinear Wavier-Stokes equations for Newtonian fluid while the mass transport phenomenon is governed by the convection diffusion equation. The motion of the arterial wall and its effect on local fluid mechanics is, however, not ruled out from the present model. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate the effects of constricted flow characteristics and the wall motion on the wall shear stress, the concentration profile and on the mass transfer. The ultimate numerical solutions of the coupled flow and diffusion processes following a radial coordinate transformation are based on an appropriate finite difference technique which attain appreciable stability in both the flow phenomena and the convection-dominated diffusion processes.

  • 본 연구는 ERP시스템을 채택하는 과정에서 나타나는 혁신기술 수용요인을 파악함으로써 혁신확산을 높일 수 있는 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 혁신기술 수용요인과 혁신확산에 관한 선행연구를 바탕으로 기술수용모형을 이용한 실증분석을 실시하여 효율적인 ERP시스템 채택과 혁신확산에 대한 방안을 제시한다. 혁신특성요인, 지각된 유용성과 지각된 편의성, ERP시스템 채택 그리고 혁신확산에 대한 경로분석에서 나타나는 변수들 간의 영향경로를 규명함으로써 혁신특성요인과 ERP시스템 채택 및 혁신확산간의 관계에 대한 최적경로를 탐색하려고 하였다.

  • While forecasting sales of a new product is very difficult, it is critical to market success. This is especially true when other products have a highly negative influence on the product because of competition effect. In this paper, we develop a choice-based competitive diffusion model and apply to the case where two digital mobile telecommunication services, that is, digital cellular and PCS services, compete. The basic premise is that demand patterns result from choice behavior, where customers choose a product to maximize their utility. In comparison with Bass-type competitive diffusion models, our model provides superior fitting and forecasting performance. The choice-based model is useful in that it enables the description of such competitive environments and provides the flexibility to include marketing mix variables such as price and advertising.

  • Natural attenuation has been actively studied and often selected as final clean-up process in remediation of contaminated ground-water and soil for the last decade. Accordingly, understanding of natural processes affecting the fate and transport of contaminants in the subsurface becomes important for a success of implementation of the natural remediation strategy, Contaminant advection and diffusion processes in the unsaturated zone are naturally related to environmental changes in the atmosphere. The atmospheric pressure changes affecting the transport of contaminants in the subsurface are investigated in this study. Moisture content, trichloroethylene (TCE) concentration, temperature, and pressure variations in the subsurface were measured for the July, August, November, and December 2001 at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. These data were used for a one-phase flow and one-component transport model in simulating the soil-gas flow and accordingly the TCE transport in the subsurface in accordance with the atmosphere pressure variations at the surface. The soil-gas velocities during the sampling periods varied with a magnitude of $10^{-6}\;to\;10^{-7}\;m\;s^{-1}$ at land surface. The TCE advection fluxes at land surface were several orders of magnitude smaller than the TCE diffusion fluxes. A sensitivy analysis indicated that advection fluxes were more sensitive to changes in geo-environmental conditions compared to diffusion fluxes. Of all the parameters investigated in this study, moisture content has the most significant effect on TCE advection and diffusion fluxes.

  • Co-flow laminar diffusion flames' temperature has been studied experimentally for ethylene$(C_2H_4)$ using a co-flow burner in order to investigate the characteristics of diffusion flame's temperature distribution. The temperature distributions in the flame were measured by rapid insertion of a R-type thermocouple. The measurement area was divided into three zones. 1st area was expect to created PAH zone, Il nd area was expect to form soot zone, which is known to generate most soot volume fraction, and III rd area was expect to from soot oxidization zone. Also The temperature along the flame y-axis as a fuel quantity was measured. As a results, we have measured temperature neglecting the effect of soot particles attached to the thermocouple junction, which is close to the nozzle and upstream zone has a unstable flow in co-flow diffusion flame and acquires that the flame y-axis temperature has a uniform temperature in the generated soot volume fraction zone(II nd).

Coercivity Enhancement in Nd2Fe14B Permanent Magnetic Powders through Rotating Diffusion Process with DyHx Powders

  • [ $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ ]permanent magnetic powders ($_iH_c$ = 9.2 kOe, $B_r$ = 12.2 kG) were produced by HDDR process. Their coercivity was enhanced to 12.6 kOe through the grain boundary diffusion process with dysprosium hydride ($DyH_x$). $DyH_x$ diffusion process was optimized through rotating diffusion process, resulting in distinct phases rich in Nd and Dy observable by field emission scanning microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The mechanism of coercivity enhancement that resulted in restrain the coupling effect between $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ grains is also discussed.

저탄소 Dual Phase강의 가공시효에 미치는 탄소유효확산 및 전위분포의 영향 (Effects of Dislocation Distribution and Carbon Effective Diffusion on Strain Aging Behavior of a Low Carbon Dual Phase Steel)

  • The strain aging behavior of a low carbon dual phase steel was examined in two conditions: representing room temperature strain aging (100 ℃ × 1 hr after 7.5 % prestrain) and bake hardening process (170 ℃ × 20 min after 2 % prestrain), basing on carbon effective diffusion and dislocation distribution. The first principle calculations revealed that (Mn or Cr)-vacancy-C complexes exhibit the strongest attractive interaction compared to other complexes, therefore, act as strong trapping sites for carbon. For room temperature strain aging condition, the carbon effective diffusion distance is smaller than the dislocation distance in the high dislocation density region near ferrite/martensite interfaces as well as ferrite interior considering the carbon trapping effect of the (Mn or Cr)-vacancy-C complexes, implying ineffective Cottrell atmosphere formation. Under bake hardening condition, the carbon effective diffusion distance is larger compared to the dislocation distance in both regions. Therefore, formation of the Cottrell atmosphere is relatively easy resulting in to a relatively large increase in yield strength under bake hardening condition.

비말 지역에 노출된 FA 콘크리트의 균열을 고려한 겉보기 염화물 확산계수 및 표면 염화물량 평가 (Evaluation of Apparent Chloride Diffusion Coefficient and Surface Chloride Contents of FA concrete Exposed Splash zone Considering Crack Width)

  • 콘크리트는 인장력에 취약한 재료적 특징을 갖기 때문에 콘크리트 구조물의 사용기간 중에 발생하는 균열은 내구성능 평가 시 필히 고려되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 두 수준의 강도를 고려한 플라이애시 콘크리트를 배합하여 옥외 폭로 시험을 실시하였다. 노출 환경은 비말 조건으로 설정하였으며, 균열 폭이 콘크리트의 염화물 확산 거동에 미치는 영향을 평가하고자 각 배합의 시편에 0.1 mm 간격으로 최대 1.0 mm 까지의 균열 폭을 야기하였다. 그 후 3가지 수준의 노출기간(180일, 365일, 730일)을 고려하여 겉보기 염화물 확산계수 및 표면 염화물량을 산출하였다. 균열 폭의 증가에 따라 두 배합 모두 확산계수가 증가하였으며, 노출기간이 증가함에 따라 확산계수는 감소하였다. 또한 노출 기간이 증가함에 따라 균열 폭이 확산계수에 미치는 영향이 감소하였는데, 이는 염소 이온 기반 수화물이 콘크리트의 확산성을 저감시키기 때문으로 사료된다. 표면 염화물량 거동은 겉보기 염화물 확산계수 거동 대비 균열 폭의 증가에 따른 뚜렷한 변화 거동이 발생하지 않았으며, 고강도 배합에서 보통 강도 배합 대비 78.9 % ~ 90.7 %의 표면 염화물량을 나타내어 강도와의 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 판단된다.
