System Dynamics Approaches on Green Car Diffusion Strategies and the Causal Diagram Analysis (친환경차 확산전략에 대한 시스템다이내믹스 접근과 인과지도 분석)

  • The research is to identify important diffusion factors and their effects on green car diffusion process using system dynamics perspectives and a causal-loop analysis. Through a deep review on previous research, we have found the important factors of green car diffusion process. Price, driving range, network effect, recharge system, fuel cost had important facilitation on consumer attraction and green car diffusion. Based on the review, we have constructed a causal loop diagram explaining hybrid car diffusion process. We have found 3 important reinforcing loops in the causal loop diagram. Loop for learning & economies of scale(supply side), loop for network effect(consumer side), and loop for battery development(technology side) had most significant roles in the whole diffusion process. Through a deliberate analysis on the 3 causal loops, we have found meaningful results. First, there seems to exist a critical mass in the diffusion. Second, of the 3 loops, the battery technology had most significant role. Third, not consumer installed base but sales must be a standard to decide whether the critical mass is achieved or not. Based on these findings, several meaningful implications are suggested for the government and corporations related to the green car industries.

Behavior of Diffusion Layer Formation for TiNi/6061Al Smart Composites by Vacuum hot Press (진공 Hot Press법에 의한 TiNi/6061Al 지적 복합재료의 확산층 형성거동)

  • 2.7vol%TiNi/6061 Al composites with TiNi shape memory alloy as reinforcement were fabricated by vacuum hot press. It was investigated by OM, SEM, EPMA and XRD analysis for the behavior of diffusion layer formation on various heat treatment condition. Thickness of diffusion layer was increased proportionally according to heat treatment time. The layer was formed by the mutual diffusion of TiNi and Al. The diffusion rate from TiNi fiber to Al matrix was faster than that of reverse diffusion path. The more diffused layer was formed in Al matrix. The diffusion at interface layer was consisted of $A1_3$Ti, $Al_3$Ni analyzed by EPMA, XRD results.

An Image Segmentation method using Morphology Reconstruction and Non-Linear Diffusion (모폴로지 재구성과 비선형 확산을 적용한 영상 분할 방법)

  • Existing methods for color image segmentation using diffusion can't preserve contour information, or noises with high gradients become more salient as the number of times of the diffusion increases, resulting in over-segmentation when applied to watershed. This paper proposes a method for color image segmentation by applying morphological operations together with nonlinear diffusion For an input image, transformed into LUV color space, closing by reconstruction and nonlinear diffusion are applied to obtain a simplified image which preserves contour information with noises removed. With gradients computed from this simplified image, watershed algorithm is applied. Experiments show that color images are segmented very effectively without over-segmentation.

A Study on Chloride Diffusion in Concrete Containing Lightweight Aggregate Using Crushed Stone-powder (폐석분을 활용한 경량골재 콘크리트의 염화물 확산에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data on chloride diffusion from lightweight aggregate concrete by utilizing crushed stone-powder. Accordingly, the study performed experiments using concrete aggregates of Crushed Aggregate (CG), Single-sized Lightweight Aggregate (SLG), Continuous Graded Lightweight Aggregate (CLG), and using water-binder ratio of 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and using binder of FA and BFS. The chloride diffusion coefficient is calculated after experiment based on NT BUILD 492. Diffusion coefficient of SLG and CLG were little bit higher than CG Concrete, but the difference is meaningless. Also, chloride diffusion coefficient indicates that it is highly affected by water-binder ratio, and it decreases with the decrease in water-binder ratio. The admixture substitution indicates decrease only with water-binder ratio of 0.4 for FA15% case, but admixture substitution indicates decrease with all levels of ratio for FA10 + BFS20% which means more appropriate. According to the analysis result of chloride diffusion from lightweight aggregate concrete, crushed stone-powder utilized lightweight aggregate concrete indicates higher chloride diffusion coefficient than CG concrete, which is not a significant difference, and can improve resistance through water-binder ratio and admixture substitution.

  • Film growth rate and composition variation are numerically analyzed during the selective area growth of InGaN on the GaN triangular stripe microfacet in this study. Both the vapor phase diffusion and the surface diffusion are considered to determine the In composition on the InGaN surface. To obtain the In composition on the surface, flux of In atoms due to the surface diffusion is added to the concentration determined from the Laplace equation which is governing the gas phase diffusion. The solution model is validated by comparing the growth rates from the analyses to the experimental results of GaN and InN films. The In composition and resulting wave length are increased when the surface diffusion is considered. The In content is also increased according to the increasing mask width. The effect of mask width to the In content and wave length is increasing in the case of a small open region.

  • Polymer-modified mortars have an excellent water proofness and water retentivity. Therefore, the study on the moisture diffusion behavior- is very important. The purpose of' this study is to investigate the effects of relative humidity and moisture content in mortars on the moisture diffusion, and the relationship between the shrinkage and moisture diffusion coefficient of polymer-modified mortars cured at $20{\circ}C$ 50% R.H and 80% R.H. The pore size distribution of the polymer-modified mortars was also measured. From the test results, the relative humidity and moisture content in mortars influenced on the moisture diffusion of polymer-modified mortars. The shrinkage and moisture diffusion coefficient of polymer-modified mortars cured at $20{\circ}C$ 50% R.H. was bigger than that cured at $20{\circ}C$ 80% R.H.. and decreased with increasing polymer-cement ratio regardless of polymer type.

Calculation of Film Diffusion Coefficients and Surface Diffusion Coefficients of Volatile Organic Compounds Using Activated Carbon Adsorption Model and Small Column Test (활성탄 흡착모델과 칼럼실험을 통한 Volatile Organic Compounds의 막확산계수와 표면확산계수의 도출)

  • Separation of VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds) in Water Using Activated Carbon is known to be effective. Activated Carbon has been and will be employed in many water treatment plants. Simplified plug flow homogeneous surface diffusion model(PFHSDM) has been used to predict adsorption of organic matter. Finite Element Method(FEM) was used to analyze the model. Out of water quality control substances, benzene, toluene and tetrachloroethylene were used in the small column test. Film diffusion coefficients and surface diffusion coefficients were obtained from the column test, and were compared with the modeling results. Mc Cune, Williamson, William and Kataoka model, were compared with film diffusion coefficients obtained in the test. McCune model was fitted best for those VOCs used in this experiment. Film diffusion coefficients of VOCs obtained were benzene 0.265 cm/min, toluene 0.348 cm/min and tetrachloroethylene 0.298 cm/min. Surface diffusion coefficients of VOCs obtained were benzene $6.36{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/min$, toluene $3.20{\times}10-8cm2/min$, and tetrachloruethylene $4.94{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/min$.

A Study on the Cyclic Oxidation Properties of Aluminum Diffusion Coated Materials (알루미늄 확산코팅재료의 주기산화 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The protective oxide scales and coatings formed on high temperature materials must be preserved in high temperature atmosphere. And the thermal stresses induced by thermal cycling and the growth stresses by the formation of oxide scales can cause the loss of adherence and spalling of the oxide scales and coated layers. Among the coating processes Al diffusion coating is favored due to thermochemical stability and superior adherence in an hostile atmosphere. In this study, protective oxide forming element, Al was coated on Ni, Inconel 600 and 690 by diffusion coating process varying coating temperature and time. And the surface stability and adherence of oxide scales formed on those Al diffusion coated materials were evaluated by thermal cycling test. Al diffusion coated specimens showed superior cyclic oxidation resistance compared to bare ones and specimens coated for longer period had better cyclic oxidation resistance, due to the abundant amount of Al in the coated layer. Meanwhile Al diffusion coated Inconel 600 and 690 showed improved cyclic oxidation resistance by the effect of Al in the coated layer and Cr in the substrate. Comparing both Al diffusion coated Inconel 600 and 690, Al diffusion coated Inconel 690 maintained better adhesion between coated layer and substrate by virtue of the bridging effect resulting from the segregation of Cr in the interdiffusion zone.

Modeling of diffusion-reaction behavior of sulfate ion in concrete under sulfate environments

  • This paper estimates theoretically the diffusion-reaction behaviour of sulfate ion in concrete caused by environmental sulfate attack. Based on Fick's second law and chemical reaction kinetics, a nonlinear and nonsteady diffusion-reaction equation of sulfate ion in concrete, in which the variable diffusion coefficient and the chemical reactions depleting sulfate ion concentration in concrete are considered, is proposed. The finite difference method is utilized to solve the diffusion-reaction equation of sulfate ion in concrete, and then it is used to simulate the diffusion-reaction process and the concentration distribution of sulfate ion in concrete. Afterwards, the experiments for measuring the sulfate ion concentration in concrete are carried out by using EDTA method to verify the proposal model, and results show that the proposed model is basically in agreement with the experimental results. Finally, Numerical example has been completed to investigate the diffusion-reaction behavior of sulfate ion in the concrete plate specimen immersed into sulfate solution.

THE EFFECT OF SI-RICH LAYER COATING ON U-MO VS. AL INTERDIFFUSION

  • Si-rich-layer-coated U-7 wt%Mo plates were prepared in order to evaluate the diffusion barrier performance of the Si-rich layer in U-Mo vs. Al interdiffusion. Pure Si powder was used for coating the U-Mo plates by annealing at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under vacuum of approximately 1 Pa. Si-rich layers containing more than 60 at% of Si were formed on U-7 wt%Mo plates. Diffusion couple tests were conducted in a muffle furnace at $560-600^{\circ}C$ under vacuum using Si-rich-layer-coated U-Mo plates and pure Al plates. Diffusion couple tests using uncoated U-Mo plates and Al-(0, 2 or 5 wt%)Si plates were also conducted for comparison. Si-rich-layer coatings were more effective in suppressing the interaction during diffusion couple tests between coated U-Mo plate and Al, when compared with U-Mo vs. Al-Si diffusion couples, since only small amounts of Al in the coating could be found after the diffusion couple tests. Si-rich-layer-coated U-7wt%Mo particles were also prepared using the same technique for U-7 wt%Mo plates to observe the microsturctures of the coated particles.
