  • Recently, two reverberation rooms were built up of 300mm thick concrete walls in non-parallel pentagonal shape to measure the sound absorption, transmission, radiation, and impact insulation of acoustical materials, panels, doors, etc. Various acoustic tests, including the sound transmission test, were carried out to investigate their acoustic performances. In order to improve the performance, several modifications on these acoustical parameters, such as the acoustic mode, the position of specimen, the formation of diffuse field, the location of sound source, and flanking transmission, have been conducted. Through a series of tests, the reverberation rooms have been effectively improved so that it could perform a variety of acoustic tests with the international standard. And then, it is expected to be very helpful in developing the low noise design technology for ships.

  • White LEDs(Light Emitting Diode) offer advantageous properties such as high brightness, improved reliability, lower power consumption, and long lifetimes. An LED is an electronic device that converts an electrical signal into a tight signal and is used not only in Optical Communication Indoor wireless optical illuminating rooms, but also for wireless optical communication systems. Currently, studies about these white LEDs have been being progressed, and in this raper, we discuss the multiplex and the multiple access method of VLC(Visible Light Communication) systems using white LEDs. In proposed system, CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) apples to VLC system to reduce interference of VLC system, and improve capacity. The superiority of OOK modulation is presented in analysis of results by comparing VLC-CDMA communication system using OOK(On-off keying) modulation and BPSK modulation in AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) channel and Diffuse channel. And we investigate the significance of a solution of interference by multipath by comparing BER in multipath channel and AWGN channel. In the proposed system, we assume Directed LOS(Line Of Sight) and Diffuse Link, and suppose VLC-CDMA using OOC(Optical Orthogonal Code) as methods to increase efficiency of system by removing ISI(Inter Symbol Interference) caused by multiple access, optical spreading code, and also present an analysis of its performance.

  • In this paper, an on-line noise coherence estimation algorithm for binaural speech enhancement system is proposed. A number of noise Power Spectral Density (PSD) estimation algorithms based on the noise coherence between two microphones have been proposed to improve the speech enhancement performance. In the conventional algorithms, the noise coherence was characterized using a real-valued analytic model. However, unlike the analytic model, the noise coherence between the two microphones is time-varying in real environments. Thus, in this paper, the noise coherence is updated in accordance with the variation of the acoustic environment to track the realistic noise coherence. The noise coherence can be updated only during the absence of speech, and the simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm over the conventional algorithms based on the analytic model.

  • At high frequencies, the statistical approach such as statistical energy analysis(SEA) and energy flow analysis(EFA) has been applied for estimation of vibroacoustic responses of various built-up structures. The energy coupling relationship between finite coupled structures is required to estimate vibrational energetics of built-up structures. Mindlin plate theory includes the rotatory inertia and shear deformation effects which are dominant as frequency increases. In this paper, the wave transmission analysis is successfully performed for EFA of co-planar coupled Mindlin plates.

  • This paper reviews several multi-source localization methods which estimate ITDs based on zero crossings (ZCs). Employing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation from ITD variances, these ZC-based source localization methods are more robust to diffuse noise than the cross-correlation (CC)-based one with less computational complexity. In order to take reverberant environments into account, two approaches detect intervals which dominantly contain direct-path components from sources to sensors because they may effectively provide reliable ITDDs corresponding to source directions. One accomplishes the detection by comparing the original and cepstral-prefiltering-processed envelopes, and the other searches sudden increase of acoustic energy by considering typical characteristics of acoustic reverberation. Experiments for comparison of these methods demonstrate that the approach with energy-based detection efficiently achieves multi-source localization in reverberant environments.

  • In this study, acoustic diffusers were designed as to the ISO method, which measured the random-incidence scattering coefficient of surfaces in a diffuse field. The diffusers which were made of GFRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum), consisted of the cubes with different height and width. The height was from 50 to 250 mm and the maximum height was at the center of the diffusers to provide the early reflections. The surfaces were irregularly designed in order to add the lateral reflections. The scattering coefficient of the diffusers was measured in a 1;10 reverberation chamber, but the absorption coefficient was measured in a real scale reverberation chamber. The result of the scattering coefficient was compared to the hemisphere diffusers and the absorption coefficient was compared to ISO 354 data. To validate the measurement results, the scattering coefficient of the diffusers will be measured in a real scale reverberation chamber.

  • Scattering of surface materials has been known as one of the most important aspects in evaluating the acoustics of concert halls are designed. One of the methods that can reduce the errors in estimating the reverberation time and other acoustic parameters through computer modeling is to calculate scattering coefficient of surface materials. However. so far, no objective and reliable methods measuring scattering coefficient has been suggested. In this situation, ISO has suggested the method of measuring the random-incidence scattering coefficient on surfaces in diffuse field, whereas AES has introduced a method on directional-incidence in free field. In this study, the scattering coefficients of five kinds of hemispheres (1.5, 2.0. 2.5. 3.0. 3.5cm) were measured by using the ISO method in 1:10 reverberation chamber. It was found that 3.0cm hemisphere has the highest scattering coefficient satisfying 95% reliability.

  • This study deals with the performance of a simplified test apparatus for measurement of sound insulation of panels. In order to investigate its performance, results from experiment and theory of the sound transmission loss for single and double panels are compared. Comparative results show that in evaluation of the sound insulation performance, the test apparatus has a cumbersome problem at the low frequency region, i.e. below 315 ㎐, presumably because of the poor diffuse sound field in the chambers. Meanwhile at the high frequency, it shows a considerable results comparable to the theoretical prediction. One of the objective of this study that compares measured results between a real reverberation chamber and a simplified test apparatus, by using a specimen of a sandwich panel. It shows qualitatively resonable agreement from which one can find a potential to provide a design tool.

  • Numerical and experimental study were carried out to characterize sound fields of low frequency in a scaled reverberation chamber for measurement of sound insulation of panels. By using BEM, lower modes of the chamber are identified and then predicted the effect of diffusers in order to destruct lower modes. Compared results with measurements show reasonable agreements, especially at the first end second modes. Based on numerical prediction, the diffuser are installed in order to improve sound fields to be more diffuse than ever. It is found that the diffuser put in nodal line of the chamber destruct evidently the first mode. Consequently, the measuring error at the low frequency can be relatively reduced compare to the case of without diffuser.

  • Mindlin plate theory includes the shear deformation and rotatory inertia effects which cannot be negligible as exciting frequency increases. The statistical methods such as energy flow analysis(EFA) and statistical energy analysis(SEA) are very useful for estimation of structure-borne sound of various built-up structures. For the reliable vibrational analysis of built-up structures at high frequencies, the energy transfer relationship between out-of-plane waves and in-plane waves exist in Mindlin plates coupled at arbitrary angles must be derived. In this paper, the new wave transmission analysis is successfully performed for various energy analyses of Mindlin plates coupled at arbitrary angles.
