Formulation of the Sucrose-Free Simulant Human Tissue for SAR Measurement at CDMA Mobile Band

  • A general method to formulate the tissue-equivalent liquids for SAR measurement is proposed to make sucrose-free brain tissue applicable at 835 MHz as an example We suggest the tissue composition can be determined by measuring the dielectric constants and conductivities with the DI water and salt addition variation to the pre-manufactured auxiliary liquid of DGBE and TritonX-100 The manufactured liquid satisfies the specified electrical parameters of international standard at 835 MHz.

  • Thin film Ba$^{0.7}Sr^{0.3}TiO^{3}$ (BST) capacitors were fabricated on SiO$_{2}$/Si substrates by RF magnetron sputtering method and characterized at microwave frequencies ranging from 40 MHz to 1GHz to examine the dielectric dispersion of the capacitors. The BST thin films were electrode material of BST thin films capacitor which is known as one of the best electrode materials for BST films. 50$\AA$-thick titanium (Ti) layers were introduced to increase adhesion between bottom Pt and SiO$_{2}$. The leakage current density of the capacitors was about 1.7${\times}10^{7}A/cm^{2}$ at 1.5V and the dielectric constant was about 140 at 1MHz. Microwave measurement patterns having a coplanar waveguide type were fabricated and their S parameters were measured using network analyzer. After de-embedding parasitic components in microwave measurement patterns nearly frequency-invariant dielectric constant of about 120 was extracted in the measurement range of 40 MHz to 1 GHz.

PZT 순수박막과 PZT/PT 교차박막의 적외선 감지 특성 비교 (Pyroelectric Peyformance Evaluation of Pure PZT and Alternately Deposited PZT/PT Thin Films)

  • To improve the performance of the PZT thin flms, each PZT and PT layer was alternately deposited on a Pt/Ti/Si$_3$N$_4$/SiO$_2$/Si substrate by a modified sol-gel solid precursor technique. For comparison, PZT thin films were also prepared with an identical method under the same conditions. XRD measurement revealed that the diffraction pattern of the multilayer film was due to the superimposition of the PZT and PT patterns. At 1㎑, a dielectric constant of 389 and 558, a dielectric loss of 1.2% and 1.1% were obtained for the PZT/PT and PZT thin films, respectively. If we consider the PT dielectric constant to be 260, it is clear that the dielectric constant of alternately deposited PZT/PT thin films was well adjusted. The PZT/PT thin film showed a low dielectric constant and a similar dielectric loss compared with those of the PZT film. The figures of merit on detectivity for the PZT/PT and PZT thin films were 20.3$\times$10$\^$-6/㎩$\^$-$\sfrac{1}{2}$/, and 18.7$\times$10$\^$-6/㎩$\^$-$\sfrac{1}{2}$/, and the figures of merit on voltage response were 0.038㎡/C and 0.028 ㎡/C, respectively. The high figures of merit for the PZT/PT film were ascribed to its relatively low dielectric constant when compared to the PZT thin films.

자동차용 엔진오일의 열화도 측정 센서연구 (A Study on Deterioration Measurement Sensor in the Automobile Engine Oil)

  • This work is aimed to measure the deterioration in oil sensor. For the study, the circuit of a coil-type oil sensor packaged was developed and applied to the automobile engine for monitoring the deterioration of engine oil in driving conditions. From the principle which the deterioration of automobile engine oil can be expressed to the dielectric constant, the capacitance bridge circuit and the integrator circuit were designed. As results, the range of operating temperature of engine oil was experimentally recommended within $55^{\circ}C$ for the stability of a sensor designed. It was also concluded that the characteristics of output voltage converted from the dielectric constant were linearly distributed and predicted the optimized time for the exchange of engine oil.

  • This paper is aimed to develop the circuit of a coil-type oil sensor packaged to the automotive engine oil monitoring the deterioration in the driving condition and let a driver notify the optimized time for the exchange of engine oil. By applying the principle which the deterioration of automotive engine oil can be expressed to the dielectric constant, the capacitance bridge circuit and the integrator circuit are designed and packaged to a coil-typed engine oil. In this study. the range of operating temperature of engine oil is experimentally recommended within 55$^{\circ}C$ for the stability of a sensor designed. Characterization of Elastic, Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of piezoelectric Materials

  • Both the resonance and ultrasonic techniques are standard methods far characterizing the physical properties of piezoelectric materials. However, we found that each technique can only offer a few reliable measurements while the rest often have errors or impossible to implement because of the sample requirements. This paper show that one can use the combination of both techniques to achieve much better accuracy and be able to get the complete set of elastic, dielectric and piezoelectric coefficients using fewer samples. Using an ultrasonic spectroscopy we have also measure the dispersion of the ultrasonic velocity and the attenuation up to 65 MHz. Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$[PZT] ceramics were used as examples fur both studies.

  • The gate oxide thickness is becoming thinner and thinner in order to speed up the semiconductor CMOS devices. We have investigated very thin$ SiO_2$ gate oxide layers and found anomaly between the thickness determined with capacitance measurement and these obtained with cross-sectional high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The thicknesses difference of the two becomes important for the thickness of the oxide below 5nm. We propose that the variation of dielectric constant in thin oxide films cause the anomaly. We modeled the behavior as (equation omitted) and determined $\varepsilon_{bulk}$=3.9 and $\varepsilon_{int}$=-4.0. We predict that optimum $SiO_2$ gate oxide thickness may be $20\AA$ due to negative contribution of the interface dielectric constant. These new results have very important implication for designing the CMOS devices.s.

자유공간 기법을 적응한 마이크로파 대역 전파흡수재의 유전 특성 분석 (A Free-Space Method for Measurement and Analysis of Dielectric Characteristics of Electromagnetic Absorbing Materials at Microwave Frequencies)

  • For measurements and analysis of dielectric characteristics of planar slabs of microwave absorbing materials, I have applied a free-space method in the frequency range of 8~14 GHz. The measurement system for free-space method consists of transmit and receive antennas, mode transitions, precision coaxal cables, the network analyzer, and a computer Special Spot-focused horn lens antenna was used to eliminate diffraction effects. Diffraction effects at the edges of the sample are minimized by satisfying the condition for minimum transverse dimension of the plate and the beamwidth of the antennas at the focus. The time-domain gating feature of the network analyzer and the thru, reflect, and line(TRL) calibration technique were used to eliminate the effects of undesirable multiple reflections. The complex coefficients of reflection and transmission, $S_{11}$ and $S_{21}$, of planar samples were measured for standard materials such as Teflon, Rexolite$\textregistered$ 2200. The results were compared with existing measurement method. And I applied a free-space method for measurement to measure dielectric constants of some electromagnetic absorbing materials. Dielectric properties for the same samples were also measured with a 7mm coxial transmission line method for purposes of comparison with the free-space method.

Estimation of the Substrate Size with Minimum Mutual Coupling of a Linear Microstrip Patch Antenna Array Positioned Along the H-Plane

  • Mutual coupling between antenna elements of a linear microstrip patch antenna array positioned along the H-plane including the effect of edge reflections is investigated. Simple formulas are presented for the estimation of the grounded dielectric substrate size with minimum mutual coupling. The substrate sizes calculated by these formulas are in good agreement with those obtained by the full-wave simulation and experimental measurement. The substrate size with minimum mutual coupling is a function of the effective dielectric constant for surface waves and the distance between the antenna centers. The substrate size with minimum mutual coupling decreases as the effective dielectric constant for surface waves on a finite grounded dielectric substrate increases.

  • High temperature dielectric constants of the various ceramic materials have been measured using cavity perturbation method. The measurements were applied to refractory, traditional and fine ceramic powder compacts from room temperature to $1200^{\circ}C$. Calibration constant in the equation suggested by Hutcheon et al., was determined from the dielectric constants of reference specimen (teflon and alumina) at room temperature. From these results, informations on the refectory materials were obtained for the microwave kiln design and understanding of the microwave heating effects of ceramics have been improved.
