  • This study has developed a water balance model for the catchment of Byungchun river using a BROOK90 4.4e physical deterministic water balance model with the long-term meterological data and stream run off data obtained from the basin of Byungchun river in Korea. It is intended that the validation model with calibrated model fitting parameter can build a long-term water balance plan for a period when meterological data are available but stream runoff data are not. Results of this study have satisfied the first expectation as an experiment for water balance modeling since measured stream runoff data have turned out to be very similar to simulated stream runoff data. Through the confirmation of model fitting parameters and validated simulation, water balance for the period of 1998 to 2006 has been restored. Unless the conditions of geomophology, vegetation, soil and land use change, meterological data alone can produce various hydrometeorological data related to stream runoff amount, soil water amount, and evapotranspiration. This study opens up a new horizon in restoring water balance in the past as well planning water balance in the present. The obtained results from this study are expected to be used in predicting future water balance in the wake of the changes in climate and vegetation in Korea.

  • Finite automation is a mathematical model to represent a system with discrete inputs and outputs. Finite automata are a useful tool for solving problems such as text editor, lexical analyzer, and switching circuit. In this paper, given a deterministic finite automaton of an input string of length n and m states, we propose a constant time parallel algorithm that represents the transition states of finite automata and determines the acceptance of an input string on a reconfigurable mesh of size [nm/2]$\times$2m.

  • In this paper, We evaluate the learning ability of non-monotonic DBM(Deterministic Boltzmann Machine) network through numerical simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed system has higher performance than monotonic DBM network model. Non-monotonic DBM network also show an interesting result that network itself adjusts the number of hidden layer neurons. DBM network can be realized with fewer components than other neural network models. These results enhance the utilization of non-monotonic neurons in the large scale integration of neuro-chips.

  • The paper describes the validation of two time domain methods to simulate the behaviour of a destroyer operating in steep, stern-quartering seas. The significance of deck-edge immersion and water on deck on the capsize risk is shown as well as the necessity to account for the wave disturbances caused by the ship. A method is described to reconstruct experimental wave trains and finally two deterministic validation cases are shown.

  • This paper presents the general MRAC algorithm design, it's real time implementation and investigates the effect of purely deterministic disturbances to adaptive control algorithm. The design of adaptive control algorithm to reject the disturbances properly is also presented. In real time application, adaptive control algorithm is considered to investigate its performance by using DC motor. Disturbance rejection algorithm is investigated in simulation.

  • A dynamic reliability model which can take into account the time history of loading sequences may be applied to the analyses of the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. All the parameters related to the stability of structures have been considered to be constants in the deterministic model until now. Thus, it is impossible to study the effects of some uncertainties of the related random variables on the stability of structures. In this paper, the dynamic reliability model can be developed by POT(Peak Over Threshold) method in order to take into account the time history of loading sequences and to investigate the temporal behaviors of stability of structure with its loading history. Finally, it is confirmed that the results of dynamic reliability model agree with straight- forwardly those of AFDA(Approximate Full Distribution Approach) of the static reliability model for the same input conditions. In addition, the temporal behaviors of probability of failure can be studied by the dynamic reliability model developed to analyze the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. Therefore, the present results may be useful for the management of repair and maintenance over the whole life cycle of structure.

  • Approximate optimization has become popular in engineering field such as MDO and Crash analysis which is time consuming. To accomplish efficient approximate optimization, accuracy of approximate model is very important. As surrogate model, Kriging have been widely used approximating highly nonlinear system . Because Kriging employs interpolation method, it is adequate for deterministic computer simulation. Because there are no random errors and measurement errors in deterministic computer simulation, instead of classical DOE ,space filling experiment design which fills uniformly design space should be applied. In this work, various space filling designs such as maximin distance design, maximum entropy design are reviewed. And new design improving maximum entropy design is suggested and compared.

  • The previous models for thermal behavior in the melting furnace were deterministic, composed of such a form that if the initial input conditions are determined, the results would have been come out by using the basic heat equilibrium equations. But making the experiment by trusting the analysis results, the melted slag is fortuitously set often, because temperature variation of the melted slag in the reaction process is not point function but path function. So in this study, a transient model was developed and verified by comparing with the experimental results.

  • The basic mathematical tools are developed to determine the optimum emplacement of limited numbers of scatterable mines on the infantry battlefield. A deterministic model is developed for heterogeneous infantry battalion level battle using APL version 7.0. The Helmbold-type combat equation is applied to claculate comparative casulties, and range dependency is also considered to establish the correlation between attrition rate coefficients and the distance of opposing forces, Based on this deterministic model the effective range for employment of scatterable mines is determined. Because mines are primarily effective when employed in conjunction with direct fire weapons, it is inferred that minefield are best employed when used within the maximum effective range of infantry weapons systems such as the M16Al rifle. The model developed verifies this fact.
