The interactions of the societal-industrial system with the environment form one of the most critical issues in today's world. The inadequacy of current environmental regulatory structures and of traditional ways of analyzing environmental issues, together with the continuing need to mitigate the environmental perturbations arising from this complex relationship, have led to the development of a new conceptual framework termed industrial ecology. Industrial ecology (IE), defined by Graedel and Allenby, is the means by which humanity can deliberately and rationally approach and maintain a desirable carrying capacity, given continued economic, cultural and technological evolution. The concept requires that an industrial system be viewed not in isolation from its surrounding systems, but in concert with them. IE is a systems view in which one seeks to optimize the total materials cycle from virgin material, to finished material, to component, to product, to obsolete product, and to ultimate disposal. Factors to be optimized include resources, energy, and capital. In the present paper, the concept of Industrial Ecology and its application through efficient and practical Design for Environment (DFE) methodologies and tools will be introduced to Korea. This paper will also emphasis on the industrial environment within which DFE methodologies must be used, including the fundamentals of industrial design activities, concurrent engineering, constraints on design choices and existing technological infrastructure.
The Purpose of this research is to investigate how Project Based Learning(PBL) cognitive department and among the learner and instructor in the industrial highschool. Theoretical framework for the study is based on PBL, collaborative learning and module learning. The importance of the PBL has been continuously reviewed by many educational researchers. In addition, it was supported by previous research results. Based on theoretical frameworks and previous researches on the PBL provided design principles and method for learning in the industrial highschool. As a result of this study, we have developed and applied to investigate (1) differences between the types of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on learner's and instructor's task solving process, (2) correlation between the type of groups(learner, instructor) and type of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) cognition on task solving process. The total of 100 learners and 50 instructors from industrial highschool in the study for the period of sixteen weeks. Based on the type of groups and departments, participants were divided into six groups such as learner and instructor of agriculture, industry, commerce department. The result of the study can be summarized as follows: First, in the study, between the types of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on learner's and instructor's task solving process are differences. Second, correlation between the type of groups(learner, instructor) and type of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on task solving process are differences. Although the differences were insignificant for cognition of PBL's help, however, four items(accomplishment, application subject, hereafter application) showed significant differences in performances. The implication of the result indicated the cognition of PBL in the industrial highschool seem significant for departments and subjects characteristic of learning. In future research it is recommended that PBL model designs should consider components of group and department types.

The purpose of this study is to consider ontology theory and get to forge design and implementation of ontology-based access system which is support to the nutrition and food guide tower of Home Economics textbooks in middle school in order to offer the way of effective learning performance. It offers a model by establishing a nutrition and food guide tower access system based on Protege-2000 framework. This system is on the basis of XML, and it makes possible to work with semantic web, a next generation internet technology, and provides a meaning structure that can be shared in the field of nutrition in order to build up the fundament of knowledge an information system for the mutual operations. A learner can systemize the knowledge through a self-information access and an instructor can also check out the degree of learner's learning-accomplishment and interests, directly putting the access system into the teaching and learning process. In addition, it is supposed that the learner can maintain a balance and healthy life by internalizing his or her knowledge throughout ontology not only in a teaching and learning process but also in a daily life.
Interactive intervention of the human presenter is one of the important factors that make the visualization more effective. Rather than just showing the content, the presenter enhances the process of the information delivery by providing the context of visualization. In this paper, we define this as an augmented presentation. In augmented presentation concept, the presenter can facilitate presentation more actively by being fully immersed in the visualization space and reaching and interacting into digital information. In order to concrete the concept, we design presentation space that enables the presenter to be seamlessly immersed in the visualization. Also we increase the presenter's roles as a storyteller, controller and augmenter allowing the presenter to fully support communicative process between the audience and the visualization. Then, we present an augmented presentation system to verify the proposed concept. We rendered 3D visualization through a half-mirror film and a wall projection screen that are place in parallel and applied with stereoscopic images, then, spatially align the presenter inside the virtual visualization space. After that, we conduct a controlled experiment to investigate the subjective level of immersion and engagement of the audience to HoloStation compared to traditional presentation system. Our initial investigation suggests that the newly conceived augmented presentation has potential not only to enhance the information presentation but also to supports the delivery of visualization.

A drastic development of modern cities and transportation means as part of a rapid industrialization and urbanization for the past half-century has consistently broaden the boundaries of urban dwellers while, at the same time, raising issues as to establishing relationships among them throughout the society following the materialization of modern urban planning. Within the framework of the postmodern concept, there have been consistent efforts to create a community space in appropriate size and, in particular, the concept of New Urbanism and Urban Village that emerged in mid 1800s along with the effort to build a community by building an ideal city provides an important meaning today when people are seeking to restore a healthy community. Against this backdrop, this study aims to explore the concept of community and to determine its optimal scope of implementation in the sense of healing environment under the premise that organizing a healthy city is based on building a solid urban community. The study findings and conclusions are as follows. First, a community is a subject of constant consideration in the process of historical development of the city and has required us to take a variety of strategic approaches and to determine the scope of implementation. Second, the activities of a healthy community have been conducted under various types of environments, including churches, commercial facilities, urban plazas, parks, and streets in various scales, reflecting their unique characteristics. Third, in the process of designing a healthy and sustainable city, determination of location carries significant implications along with building a community of appropriate size, which requires multidisciplinary considerations in addition to functional approaches. Fourth, the composition and design of a modern urban community need to seek practical ways of its implementation within the concept of healing environment.
The purpose of this study is to discover the plans for Yangyeongsi in Daegu, one of the most traditional streets and a tourist spot in South Korea, by preserving the historical place, reviving the historical characteristics and identity, revitalizing the uniqueness of the location, and developing the environment. This paper also illustrates the problems of the place through a investigation into its current state in order to promote the district and conduct a fundamental research framework to suggest future development methods and directions based on the problem statements. Daegu Yangyeongsi was chosen through frequency analysis and a survey asking for a suitable location and local characteristics to be developed for the local promotion through the field investigation of 158 cultural assets registered in the local government. This survey was conducted through the development process of the Regional Design Innovation Center to revitalize the traditional streets and places of interest. Through this investigation, 19 sites and traditional streets, which can be cultural resources for sightseeing and contribute to the local promotion, were extracted. Yangyeongsi, was selected from the finalists. The research methodology will be 1) to identify things for improvement potentiality through an in-depth analysis of Yangyeongsi, 2)to examine the mutual relationship between the revitalization strategy of Yangyeongsi and the city promotion strategy, and 3) to integrate the problems and improvements based on the results of the analysis. The notion of SWOT analysis synthetically considering the elements of opportunity and intimidation, strength and weakness to come up with the development direction was introduced to discover the local characteristics of Yangyeongsi and deduce the problem statement through the state analysis. Based on these results, the future development method and direction will be suggested in this paper through the revitalization study of Yangyeongsi.

The hybrid fashion design trend of cultural aspect, which manifests in the background of scientific technological culture as it transcends the societal-cultural boundaries based on the de-centralization theory of Frederic Jameson, has supplemented the imperfect meanings through conversional correlation with other forms and internal program changes. Collaborative systems allow users, who may be far removed from each other geographically, to do collaborative work such as 3D animation, computer game, and industrial design in a single virtual space. This paper describes our experience to develop a collaborative system framework that aims at expanding the some functions of a stand-alone visual modeling tool, called 3D Studio Max, into those of the distributed collaborative working environments. The paper mainly deals with design and implementation of a 3D shared-object Plug-In with respect to the 3D Studio Max Plug-In Software Development Kit in the distributed collaborative system developed by the authors. There are two major functions of the proposed scheme; one is to write 3D object-information to the shared memory after extracting it from the 3D Studio Max, the other is to create 3D objects after retrieving them from the shared memory. Also, the proposed scheme provides a simple way of storing 3D objects that have variable size, by means of shared memory which located in between the collaborative system clients and 3D studio Max. One of the remarkable virtures of the Plug-In is to reduce a considerable amount of shared object data which in consequence can mitigate the network overhead. This can be achieved by the fact that the system is able to extract a minimum amount of 3D objects that are required to transmit. Also, using the proposed scheme, user can facilitate 3D Studio Max into distributed collaborative working environments. This, in consequence give many benefits such as saving time as well as eliminating space constraints in the course of 3D modeling when we are under industrial design process.
This research is based on the design of pictures in picture books, and the spatial representation of illustrations in the picture books contains the significantly important objective. Various texts, pictures, spaces, etc. in a picture must have the operator's various editing skills so that spatial arrangement is made smoothly.In this paper, the characteristics of spatial expression of design in picture books are derived by analyzing several examples of paintings and studies on classic picture books. First, the fusion of picture and text, that is, that both picture and text convey spatial information together as elements of the screen. Second, as a characteristic of the coherence of the space design in picture books, the story and content must be smoothly connected when reading the book. Third, when expressing a space, the creator should utilize the strengths and weaknesses of each other between abstract and conceived spatial expressions as needed. Fourth, as a symbolic feature of picture book spatial expression, it can be seen that many symbolic expression techniques are applied to the spatial expression of picture books according to the semiotic principle, which greatly improves the cognitive efficiency of reading picture books. The fifth characteristic is that the spatial expression of an excellent picture book has excellent interesting element, rich design means, and interestingly conveys screen contents and screen format to readers. In this research, it is thought that designers and artists should guide the creation within a spatial framework as designing picture books, thus greatly improving the efficiency of the creation process, while also provide a reader-centered visual Interesting experience.

Quantity take-off is one of the critical tasks that determine the cost of a construction project, and its result should be accurate and reliable. BIM-based quantity take-off is a very attractive process for practitioners since the quantity take-off can be done automatically in a fast and accurate way. However, the result of BIM-based quantity take-off can be varied depending on how BIM was modeled. As a project progresses, more detailed design information is getting available, and it can be expected that the degree of completeness and accuracy for the BIMbased quantity take-off is going to be improved as well. However, when estimation is performed at each stage of a project life-cycle, there is no way to measure or forecast how accurate of the quantity take-off result from the BIM data given at the current stage. Therefore, this research derived factors that affect the BIM-based quantity takeoff and developed a methodology and framework to measure and forecast the completeness of BIM-based quantity take-off. The measurement framework and index that are proposed by this research was verified and validated for their consistency and feasibility through six pilot projects.
