  • To reduce the personnel and material loss caused by fire, we propose the automatic fire extinguishing system based on the ignition point tracking using the flame detecter. This automatic fire extinguishing system is composed of the flame detecting system and the fire extinguishing system based on the water cannon. We study the method for the ignition point tracking and the automatic fire extinguishing using the water cannon and the flame detecter. The flame detecting system for the early fire detection and the ignition point tracking has to be satisfied the requirement of the detecting range and the flame detection time. So we study the signal process algorithm for an improvement of the flame detecting system.

  • When a fire happens in builds or apartments, peoples are tend to be caught in dangerous situations owing to the failure of searching escape route to the outside. In this work, an efficient fire detection and alarm system which makes it possible for the escapers to take adequate actions is proposed. The proposed system consists of two parts. One is fire detection modules which are located at each compartments in a building. The other is fire warning modules equipped with portable flashes having ability of visual/voice warning. Fire detection information is transmitted between each modules wirelessly. In this work, an efficient communication protocol for sensor network-based fire detection system is proposed and its feasibility is verified by practical experiments using MANGO ZDK Development tools

지하철 승강장 형식에 따른 정량적 화재 위험성 평가 (Quantitative Fire Risk Assesment for the Subway Platform Types)

  • Subway platform is divided into Side-platform type and Center-platform type. In this study does quantitative fire risk assesment of subway platform types in numerical analysis by using CFD model. From the result of this study, 1) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Side-platform station. 2) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Center-Platform station. 3) When comparing same type exhaust mode of Side-platform and Center-platform that last thing was visible $9.1{\sim}72.34%$ low-end fire risk. Center-platform is more opera-tive than Side-platform that reduce fire risk when that was same dimension and external environment. Designer look upon a fire characteristic of subway platform types when he make smoke control air volume and platform area design.

원전 케이블 화재 열속평가 및 열화 진단방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Heat-Flux Evaluation for Cable Fire Including Diagnostic Methodology for Degradation in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • The fire event occurred in fire proof zone often causes serious electrical problems such as shorts, ground faults, or open circuits in nuclear power plants. These would be directed to the loss of safe shutdown capabilities performed by safety related systems and equipments. The fire event can treat the basic design principle that safety systems should keep their functions with redundancy and independency. In case of a multi-core cable fire, operators can not perform their mission properly and can misjudge the situation because of spurious operation, wrong indication or instrument. These would deteriorate the plant capabilities of safety shutdown and make disastrous conditions. In this paper, the characteristic of cable fire is investigated and the heat-flux evaluation for cable fire is studied. Moreover, a diagnostic methodology for degraded cable in nuclear power plants is presented.

건축물 창호의 화재안전설계를 위한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Fire Safety Design of Windows in Building)

  • In the building, the opening penetrates the wall and serves as a spreading channel for smoke and flame in case of fire. In Korea, more than 1,500 fire plume are generated annually, and the number has increased by about 30% over the past five years. Therefore, in the case of windows protecting the opening, fire protection performance is important to prevent the spread of fire. However, in Korea, the standard for window is not clear. In this study, fire tests (EN 13823) for windows were conducted in Korea, and then fire protection performance of windows was compared. As a result of the experiment, PVC windows showed a phenomenon that they could not withstand the temperature during the fire experiment, and AL windows showed a difference in the degree of cracking of the glass.

공장소음으로 인한 화재 경보음 인지 영향정도에 관한 연구 (A study on Noise Generation and Awareness of the Fire Alarm Sound in the Factory)

  • The people who are in the noise factory are difficult to hear and recognize about fire and to evacuate quickly when a fire occurs. This study was conducted to analyze workplace's background noise of 31 factories in Incheon and to know the workplace noise level comparing to fire alarm sound level. The measured average noise level was 96.8dB(A). Noise level of measured result was exceeded as 6.8dB(A) comparing to NFSC (National Fire Safety Code) noise level of 90dB. NFPA suggests that when background noise exceeds 85dB or more than that, other methods should be considered to know alarm sound. Also fire alarm sound should exceed more than 15dB(A) comparing to background noise level. Therefore it was concluded that the design of the fire alarm systems should not be applied to the workplace without considering background noise and it needs to be improved with regulations and the systems.

불활성 압축가스를 이용한 미세물분무 소화시스템의 유류화재 소화특성 (Extinguishing of Oil Fire by Water Mist Suppression System Using Compressed Inert Gas)

  • Water mist fire suppression system is environmental system and needs a flange pump to jet water. In this research, high pressure Nitrogen cylinder is used as a pressurizing source instead of flange pump, and also we tried to find the possibility of using compressed Nitrogen as a fire suppression agent. As a result, it was possible to design water mist fire suppression system with Nitrogen cylinder and suppress oil fire effectively. With DK1.58 nozzle, the optimum Nitrogen pressure was 80bar and the pressure was stable during water mist spray. However, jet of Nitrogen was not effective fire suppression agent when it was dually used with water mist because water mist has blown away, and it is efficient way to use compressed Nitrogen as a pressurizing source only.

  • Much activity is occurring throughout the world with respect to the implementation of new concepts and technology for fire detection and fire suppression applications. Obvious advances include tangible detection and suppression improvements, and also new methods and approaches such as performance based codes and standards. Examples of tangible advances include addressable detection systems, wireless detection technology, halon alternatives, water mist systems, advanced sprinkler technology, and so on. Examples of new approaches and methods include a revitalized focus on disaster planning and the need for a total fire protection plan. The concept of performance based codes and standards for the design and installation fire detection and suppression systems will be explored in detail.

  • The risk of a fire in a building is closely related to the usage of the building. In particular, all fires that occur in a building are not risky to safety of human life, and it is associated with the combustion area and the increase of total floor area of the building. Therefore, this study focused on safety of human life in terms of the statistics of fire with considering the aspect of growing fires and analyzed the statistical data of fire for 10 years. As for the analysis on fire, the time of occurrence by usages of buildings, frequency of occurrence and the ratio of casualties etc. were analyzed. It is expected that results of this study could be used for evaluations on a variety of parts in terms of design, construction and maintenance of buildings.

  • A growing number of larger and bigger tunnels are being constructed, along with the continuing enhancement of road design speed, thereby increasing the frequency of vehicles using tunnels. For such reasons, a fire in tunnels may lead to such situations. Gases and heat caused by fires are to be blamed for such disasters, as well as the development of vehicles leads to the construction of large tunnels. Therefore this study is to provide for the safety of public and rescue personnel in the event of a fire within the tunnel system. For these purpose, the tunnel system must be protected from collapse during a specified time period. This study introduced the role of ITA, it is to developed guidelines for techniques and materials to answer these structural requirements and make tunnels and their ancillary structures more resistant to fire damage.
