The paper presents information concerning metrological and technical characteristics of KTU-Griff-Tester device, the optimization of its parameters and the cases of its application. It was defined that the behaviour of textile material during its extraction through a rounded hole depends upon its structure. Variations of geometrical shape of woven and knitted specimens can be described by mathematical expressions of shortened epicycloids and Cassini ovals. It is shown that waving process of disc shaped specimen can be predicted on the basis of the law of sine curve. The examples of textiles treatment with different types of commercial softeners are presented, herewith showing the suitability (sensitiveness) of the new device to detect the changes of textile hand. Meantime it is shown that the level of materials anisotropy can be decided on the basis of transformations of specimen's geometrical shape.

In contemporary architecture, a tendency of architectural expressions is very various aspects, therefore this study is searched about how to express the works of Richard Meier, the background of his growth, his architectural thoughts and etc. Especially the meanings of 'white architecture' have contained, which was presented on the relationships of nature, light, purity and completeness. The swept volume, the region of a moving object, is applied in many fields such as valid paths for motions of tools, visualization in robot paths and interference tests for parts assembling or disjointing. The shape of a swept volume depends on an generators computed with normal vectors of an object and velocity vectors of a motion. Although free-from surfaces are widely used to represent geometric models in CAD, computing the generators for a free-form object is a formidable task. Previous approaches exploit the closed form expressions of generators but limited to planer or quadric faces. In this paper, we propose the algorithm to compute swept volumes generated by free-form objects in screw motions. For the algorithm a tracing method is applied to the computation of generators. It considers curvatures of surfaces of an object to increase the computational accuracy. We implemented our algorithm in the CATIA V.5 environment to test the validity of our algorithm and to generate examples.

A theoretical investigation to find thermodynamically optimum design conditions of conduction-cooled Peltier current leads is performed. A Peltier current lead (PCL) is composed of a thermoelectric element (TE), a metallic lead and a high temperature superconductor (HTS) lead in the order of decreasing temperature. Mathematical expressions for the minimum heat flow per unit current crossing the TE-metal interface and the minimum heat flow per unit current from the metal lead to the joint of the metal and the HTS leads are obtained. It is shown that the temperature at the TE -metal interface possesses a unique optimal value that minimizes the heat flow to the joint and that this optimal value depends on the material properties of the TE and the metallic lead but not the joint temperature nor electric current. It is also shown that there exists a unique optimal value for the joint temperature between the metal and the HTS leads that minimizes the sum of the power dissipated by ohmic heating in the current leads and the refrigerator power consumed to cool the lead, for a given length of the HTS.

We propose rectangular type spiral coils with folded comers for the applications to low frequency guided wave magnetostrictive transducers and describe a method for making the proposed coils from insulated electrical wire such as enameled copper wire. Expressions for the electrical properties of the coils are also presented and compared with experimental measurements. An overlapped-2-channel folded-comer spiral-coil array is fabricated and applied to a magnetostrictive strip transducer generating and detecting fundamental torsional mode guided waves. From the results we conclude that the design and fabrication method make it possible to use the magnetostrictive transducers optimized for various guided wave applications and also will greatly help engineers gain easy access to the optimized transducers.

In early 20th century a tendency of composite art -the aesthetical historian's struggle to unify various genres including paintings with architecture -appered which was created on the basis of spacial thoughts. On aesthetic interpretation of arts the object of aesthetic cognition is formed not just by itself but by aesthetic consciousness systems and this means the object can be classified with basic type that has various figures within its aesthetic categories. Here this study is purposed to prescribe space as an object of aesthetic cognition and define its conceptional characteristics stylistic expressions then to play a role as basic study of aesthetics of architectural space forming aesthetic cognition and analysis of architecture.

The concept of surface has become more relative and more relationship-oriented based upon interaction between spaces as the traditional realm of perception succumbed to that of a more flexible, open perspective. If surface characteristics are consideredas an interface, an interface with individual characteristics will form part of the whole and will become an element in the whole (the environment), manifesting itself as a medium incorporated in an architectural space. This authorintends to understand interface not as a mere intermediary space but as an intervening border that allows exchanges between different environments and as a medium that allows expressions of aesthetic order through organic order. Also, it is the Intention of this author to grasp extended meanings of interface.

This study concentrates on a new idea that is formulated as a creative space recognition in contemporary architecture and painting. It is stimulated from Deleuze's philosophy, which is expressed with the philosophical instrument, "Non-Representation". After discussing the concept of non-representation used in Deleuze's philosophy, case example in contemporary architecture are analysed to comparatively Investigate the relationship between the architectures by Rem Koolhaas and painting by Francis Bacon. Therefore, he founds expressions of "diagram" and "movement" in painting of F. Bacon. Diagram meansit is a power that is comprised of various points of wiew with the kind experiences that one has in life. Movement that were extracted form the Instrument in space recognition of Deleuze's panting theory were of topology, insertion of geometry, reiteration of layers, transparency and translucency, reflection effect.

This study tried to inquire architectural tendencies in public art projects by analyzing projects and public art works designed by Korean architects. First, it described not only the background and the objectives of this study but also the scope and the methods of it. Second, it gave an overview of public art by explaining the concept, the institutions, and the history of it in Korea. Third, it investigated the contents of public art projects in Korea, in which more than two architectural teams participated, analyzing the tendencies of public art works designed by architects. In order to find the architectural tendencies of public art projects, it analyzed the intentions, the contents and the expressions of architects' art works. In conclusion, this study regarded the architectural tendencies as site-specific, space-experiencing, sheltering, multi-purposeful, contextual, recycling, and eco-friendly.

During the past decades automated storage/retrieval (AS/R) systems have been dominantly implemented in most industrial fields due to their handling efficiency and high utilization of storage space. Such AS/R systems consist of several modules each of which contains two racks and a S/R machine. This paper proposes a design of the hybrid AS/R module which can be adopted without too much initial expenditure by most of small-and-medium sized companies. The hybrid module consists of an AS/R module on the upper floor and a traditional warehouse module on the lower floor. For the AS/R module, analytical expressions of the expected travel times for the S/R machine and the elevator per operation are derived. The expected travel times represent the performance of the module and thus can be used for its economic design.
