Preliminary Study on Applying VE to Design Change (설계변경 시 VE 적용을 위한 예비연구)

  • Change requests occur persistently in the construction phase of a construction project. The law requires that the contract amount be adjusted in accordance with the relevant regulations when there is a change in the construction amount due to the design change in the construction contract. SAVE international, on the other hand, defines the value methodology as a systematic and structured approach to improving projects, products and processes. Design Changes in the construction projects require organizational efforts to improve value and quality. However, the law does not include change requests in which the VE object is fixed and related data is collected and function analysis can be derived in a short time. Therefore, it is necessary to apply VE to the design change procedure, which can further improve the value of construction work. The application derived from this study need to be presented as simply as possible without compromising the basic concept of VE. If the application is extended to the field and proved to be effective, it is expected to contribute to the overall value of construction work.

A Study on Innovative Design Approaches for Implementing an Intelligent ICT-Based Smart Highway

  • This research, conducted over a three-year period starting from 2020, was a collaborative project between practitioners in the field of VE design and the Korea Expressway Corporation, aimed at innovating the design VE project to construct an intelligent ICT-based smart highway and enhancing highway driving performance and customer satisfaction. The research included R&D support for payment and management systems integrated with IOT technology, the application of the developed prototype at highway sites, and analysis of user performance evaluation. Based on the Innovation Work Roadmap of the Korea Expressway Corporation, the research process involved collaboration between a public participation group and an expert group, considering the technical feasibility of data-based ICT technology through the National Idea VE Contest. The final VE design results were implemented at the Seongnam tollgate site with budget support from relevant departments, followed by a satisfaction survey. It is expected that the continuous contributions to achieving an ESG society, such as the increase in the number of customers using the tolling zone equipped with smart upgrades, along with their satisfaction rate, and the reduction in carbon emissions and total settlement time of highway users, will be sustained.

  • The construction by the ministry of health and welfare support of the first special hospital for only children in busan and gyeong-nam is under building with YPNUH(Yangsan Pusan National University Hospital) for the best medical treatment town and is to improve the productivity and efficiency by eliminating unproductive and inefficient fact through the construction management, systemic and scientific management technique. So in this study we would like to suggest the generated effect to apply project management technique to all stage such as from pre-design phase, turn-key enterprise choice, construction, design VE(Value Engineering), PMIS (Project Management Information System) construction to maintenance phase and cost and schedule reduction effect through basic, execution design VE by using engineer of field.

  • Highly advanced technologies are being adopted into the domestic construction industry in accordance with rapidly changing global construction industry in the 21st century. Value Engineering methodologies have often been discussed but not yet settled in the country. This research, therefore, aims to provide a useful guide to utilizing design Value Engineering in Build Transfer Lease. 1. Questionnaires had been conducted, answered by those in the field. 2. Questionnaires were in regard to the obstacles in the application of design Value Engineering and activation schemes. 3. Five standards were provided to be chosen according to the degree of influence from each factor, whose answers were technically analyzed by a statistical program afterward. 4. Four obstacles classified in this method were approached systematically to analyze the problems. 5. Efficient Activation schemes have been suggested after various analyses in a variety of aspects.

Influence of different universal adhesives on the repair performance of hybrid CAD-CAM materials

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the microshear bond strength (${\mu}SBS$) of different universal adhesive systems applied to hybrid computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) restorative materials repaired with a composite resin. Materials and Methods: Four types of CAD-CAM hybrid block materials-Lava Ultimate (LA), Vita Enamic (VE), CeraSmart (CS), and Shofu Block HC (SH)-were used in this study, in combination with the following four adhesive protocols: 1) control: porcelain primer + total etch adhesive (CO), 2) Single Bond Universal (SB), 3) All Bond Universal (AB), and 4) Clearfil Universal Bond (CU). The ${\mu}SBS$ of the composite resin (Clearfil Majesty Esthetic) was measured and the data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test, with the level of significance set at p < 0.05. Results: The CAD-CAM block type and block-adhesive combination had significant effects on the bond strength values (p < 0.05). Significant differences were found between the following pairs of groups: VE/CO and VE/AB, CS/CO and CS/AB, VE/CU and CS/CU, and VE/AB and CS/AB (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The ${\mu}SBS$ values were affected by hybrid block type. All tested universal adhesive treatments can be used as an alternative to the control treatment for repair, except the AB system on VE blocks (the VE/AB group). The ${\mu}SBS$ values showed variation across different adhesive treatments on different hybrid CAD-CAM block types.

  • The role and importance of VE have been enlarged since VE application was mandatory by law in public sector in March, 2000. Public organizations have widened the technological horizon through VE competitions and applied VE technique to private investment projects. Many studies have been carried out on function analysis and VE procedure. In practice it is common that clients make a decision one-sidedly on whether or not VE proposals are selected. The VE procedure itself is not smooth. This study gives some suggestions on VE appraisal procedure and criteria at the last phase on VE process in order to smooth the progress of VE. The results of this study can be used as a tool to improve efficiency in the management of VE.

  • 도로건설프로젝트에서의 VE는 도로시설물의 기능을 향상시키고 비용을 절감하기 위한 방법으로 지금까지 널리 활용되고 있다. 그러나, 실제 건설VE 실무에서는 VE Job Plan 중 일부 단계가 생략되거나 형식적으로 수행되는 문제점이 발생되어 VE 수행결과에 대한 신뢰성에 의문이 제기되고 있다. 이는 제조업과 달리 대규모이며 복합공종을 갖는 건설프로젝트의 특성을 반영하지 못하고 있기 때문이다. 건설프로젝트는 대규모 복합공종으로 구성되어 복잡하고 다양한 기능 및 요구성능이 있으며, 시설물이 갖는 기능(Function)과 요구성능(Required Performance)의 일부는 반복적으로 발생하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 VE Process의 실효성을 높이기 위하여 품질모델(Quality Model)과 기능분석(Function Analysis)단계에서 이러한 특징을 반영한 개선방향을 제시하고, 수차례 실무 검증을 통하여 적용성 및 효율성을 확인하였다. 이와 더불어 고속도로 VE Job Plan은 고속도로 설계 업무절차에 부합하도록 개선하여 VE 수행효과가 극대화 되도록 제안하였으며, 또한 한국도로공사에서 시행하는 고속도로 대한 VE절차를 "Hi-Value"라 명명하고 실무활용성, 효율성을 확대하고 지속적으로 발전시켜 나아갈 계획이다.

Calculation Model for Function & Cost Score based on Normalization Method in Design VE (정규화 기법 기반의 설계VE 기능 및 비용 점수 산출 모델)

  • VE aims at reduction in a budget, improvement of function, structural safety and quality security for public construction projects. However, there is possibility for the structural safety and quality security review to be insufficient because related regulations are mostly composed of analysis on economic efficiency of design. In addition, due to the misconception about VE as a cost saving methodology, an alternative is being presented which still focuses mainly on cost saving, but with no objective evaluation of function related to cost. In order to improve this, the government adopted the reduction of life cycle cost and proposal of value improvement, and let people specify the cost and function of the original plan versus the alternative plan, and the value changes between them. However, it is written mainly into practical convenience rather than theoretical basis since a specific way is not suggested. The current method sets a different starting point by applying the attributional difference of function and cost. Furthermore, an evaluation standard for correlating is an important element in rational decision making for assessing and choosing an alternative. This paper analyzes the process and method of function & cost scoring when performing VE and suggests a mathematical normalization model in order to support rational decision making when selecting an optimum plan.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the proposed design by the Value Engineering (VE) analysis for the gravel ballast and the concrete ballast track structures. However, reliabilities about the VE analysis results based on Life-Cycle Cost(LCC) has not been fully benefited from VE implementation due to disregard of basic principles and lack of systematic performance measurement systems. In this paper, the VE analysis using the Delphi survey of professional group is proposed to decide reasonable determinants for investment and alternative design in construction project of railway tracks. Moreover, the efficiency of VE analysis is invested by an application of the developed methodology to track structures.

  • This study has established an appraisal standard to select VE subject when they evaluate of design VE by using of a qualify model in an early design step and has suggested an improvement method for importance's estimation method of an appraisal standard. An importance's estimation method is to arrangement of geometric average method using an AHP method to this study, When an evaluation of a quality model, we estimate an importance by establishing of an appraisal standard of economics, construction, security, environmental influence, maintenance, etc.
