  • Wished to examine closely effect that Atopy cream-Jawoongo ointment (A-J) used to atopy dermatitis disease patient get in atopy eruption control experimentally. In this research A-J ointment as treatment result to a NC/Nga mouse by BMAC ointment, clinical skin severity score decreased remarkably than control group. Thus, NC/Nga mice suffered from dermatitis very similar to human AD with IgE hyperproduction. Specially, result that measure IgE and IgG1 level in serum decreased remarkably than control group.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the skin thickness, plasma components, serum IgE level and antioxidant enzymes activities by mixtures of Cnidium officinale, Saururus chinensis, Houttuynia cordata and Glycyrrhiza uralensis on the allergic contact dermatitis of rat induced by 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). Mixtures reduced the thickness of the skin and removed the dead skin cells compared to the skin of rats treated with DNCB alone. Also, these mixtures down-regulated the contents of lipid and IgE, and reduced the activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase. These results indicate that the mixtures significantly recovered the contact dermatitis induced by DNCB. In conclusion, it is thought that the mixtures could be useful for the allergic contact dermatitis.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to analyze research of Korean medicine for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. Methods : We searched domestic journals with the title 'seborrheic, dermatitis, 脂漏, 面遊風, 白屑風, 紐扣風'. We searched The Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, NDSL, RISS, KISS, The National Assembly Library and OASIS. Results : We selected 15 papers; 11 clinical trials, 4 systematic reviews. In clinical trial all studies showed positive effect, but less example used in the studies. Conclusions : Positive effect of Korean Medicine on seborrheic dermatitis is expected. But we find several limits in many papers, so we conclude that well-designed researches are needed.

  • Exfoliative dermatitis is a name of a group of symptoms which is characterized by red rash, itching and scale in almost whole body. The patients are suffered from hypoalbuminemia, general weakness and fever sign in addition to characteristic skin lesions. So in the treatment of this disease, adequate symptomatic treatment is important with adequate topical skin management. We experienced a 67 year old Korean male patient diagnosed as exfoliative dermatitis based on clinical symptoms. We concluded that the symptoms of this patient are Sun-symptoms(癬症) and gave him Sunpunghwangi-san(宣風換肌散) and Chungdae-san(靑黛散). After taking herbal medicine, clinical improvement was noticed. Based on this experience, both internal and external use of oriental medicine have a good effect on exfoliative dermatitis.

  • Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease characterized by intense pruritus and the course marked by exacerbation and remission. It has the characteristic symptoms of dry, itchy, scaly skin with cracks by typical distribution of lesions. Even though the etiology of atopic dermatitis is not fully understood, it is considered an allergic reaction whose onset is frequently and strongly associated with both hereditary and environmental factors. In the present clinical study, we studied the efficacy of internal herb-medicine, external herb medicine - ex. dermal oints, aqueous solutions, etc -, and steam therapy. The patient's SCORAD index was lowered 55.8 than before of which the SCORAD index was 74.8. On the basis of this study, it should be considered that the treatment of atopic dermatitis should be focused on the external therapy as steam therapy, dermal oint, a aqueous solution etc.

  • Objective: This study aimed to report the improvement in a patient with allergic contact dermatitis treated with Sihogyeji-tang based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS). Methods: According to the Shanghanlun DPIDS, the patient with allergic contact dermatitis was diagnosed with greater yang disease chest bind (Shanghanlun provision 146), and was administered Sihogyeji-tang for 90 days. The results were evaluated using the Dermatological Life Quality Index (DLQI) and a visual analog scale (VAS). Results: After taking Sihogyeji-tang for 90 days, the DLQI decreased from 28 points to 8 points and the VAS decreased from 10 points to 3 points. Conclusions: This case shows the potential of treatment through herbal medicine for allergic contact dermatitis using the Shanghanlun DPIDS.

  • Nitric oxide (NO) is a signaling molecule that plays a crucial role in numerous cellular physiological processes. In the skin, NO is produced by keratinocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and immune cells and is involved in skin functions such as vasodilation, pigmentation, hair growth, wound healing, and immune responses. NO modulates both innate and adaptive immune responses. As a signaling molecule and cytotoxic effector, NO influences the function of immune cells and production of cytokines. NO is a key mediator that protects against or contributes to skin inflammation. Moreover, NO has been implicated in skin sensitization, a process underlying contact dermatitis. It modulates the function of dendritic cells and T cells, thereby affecting the immune response to allergens. NO also plays a role in contact dermatitis by inducing inflammation and tissue damage. NO-related chemicals, such as nitrofatty acids and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors, have potential therapeutic applications in skin conditions, including allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and irritant contact dermatitis (ICD). Further research is required to fully elucidate the therapeutic potential of NO-related chemicals and develop personalized treatment strategies for skin conditions.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the anti-atopic properties of Glechoma hederacea var. longituba extracts (GHE) in murine atopic dermatitis model. Methods: BALB/c mouse ear stimulated with oxazolone (OX) for 4 weeks, then 1% GHE was topically applied every two days for 3 weeks to mouse. Ear thickness was measured by a digital thickness gauge. The ears tissues were collected and subjected to hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) and toluidine blue (TB) staining. Results: Treatment with GHE successfully alleviated the symptoms of atopic dermatitis, such as erythema, horny substance, and swelling. The infiltration of lymphocytes and mast cells were significantly reduced following GHE treatment. Conclusion: Taken together, our results showed that GHE possessed the potential to be a novel immunomodulatory drug against atopic dermatitis.
