  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using $\textrm{TiO}_2$ have been investigated. $\textrm{TiO}_2$ is known to be an excellent photocatalyst for the degradation of organic and inorganic contaminants in water. $\textrm{TiO}_2$ catalyst have been supported on the glass fiber by a dip-coating procedure. The resulting materials have been characterized by XRD and SEM. The immobilized catalysts were tested in the photocatalytic degradation of $\textrm{NH}_3$, $\textrm{CH}_3\textrm{SH}$ and $\textrm{CH}_3\textrm{CHO}$. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodorizing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The efficient deodorant activity results have been achieved through the increase of $\textrm{TiO}_2$ sol concentration.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify novel extracts of brawn algae with the high deodorant capacity and antioxidant activity. To achieves this, an composition, deodorant performance and free radical scavenging activity were analyzed in powder and water extracts of Ecklonia cava(PEC/EEC), Saccharina japonica(PSJ/ESJ), Eisenia bicyclis(PEB/EEB), Sargassum spp.(PSS/ESS) and Hizikia fusiformis(PHF/EHF) using several analytical methods. Major component of five powders was verified as PEC, phlorotannin; PSJ, alginic acid and glutamic acid; PEB, carotenoid, chlorophyll, phlorotannin, tocopherol and fucoxantin; PSS, ${\beta}$-carotene and polyphenol; PHF, tannin. The highest level of DPPH scavenging activity was detected in EEC($IC_{50}=23.018{\mu}g/ml$), followed by EEB, ESJ, EHF and ESS. The deodorizing performance to ammonia was maintained high level in PEC, PSJ, PEB and PSS, while PHF showed low level in the same condition. But, the deodorizing performance to acetic acid was slightly higher in PSJ and PEC than those of PEB, PSS and PHF. Based on the results of DPPH scavenging activity and deodorizing capacity, we selected fractions of S. japonica as leading extracts and further prepared the 70% acetone extract (AESJ) and 70% ethanol extract (EESJ) from PSJ. The contents of total flavonoid, total phenol and total condensed tannin was significantly increased with 112-209% in AESJ and EESJ compared to those of ESJ. Also, a similar enhancement was observed on the level of DPPH scavenging activity and deodorizing performance against ammonia/acetic acid in AESJ and EESJ. Therefore, these results suggest that AESJ and EESJ contained with high total phenol and total condensed tannin contents may exhibit high deodorant capacity and antioxidant activity as well as has the potential for use as a powerful biomaterial for antibacterial deodorant.

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using medal-phthalocyanines have been investigated. The five metal-phthalocyanine derivatives(M-taPc, M=Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu) were prepared in modest to good yields. The metal-phthalocyanine derivative as a deodorant material was introduced to fibers by a dyeing method. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodorizing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. In comparison with untreated fibers, these deodorizing fibers was remarkably effective against $NH_3$ and CH3SH. More than 99% of ammonia can be removed within 20 min. The D.A.(%) of fiber adsorbed M-taPc was more than 80% after 90min.

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using $TiO_2$ have been investigated. The fibers were coated with $TiO_2$ for the purpose of deodorizing by dipping fibers into the $TiO_2$ sol solutions and calcined at $450^\circ{C}$, $500^\circ{C}$ and $750^\circ{C}$ for 1 h after coating. The surface structure of the coated fibers was studied with XRD on the different preparation conditions of calcination temperatures. The deodorizing function of the prepared fibers was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3,\;CH_3SH\;and\;CH_3CHO$. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodoriBing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorizing effect of the prepared fibers were shown to be similar for the three model compounds; 5wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $450^\circ{C}$ < 5 wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $500^\circ{C}$< 5 wt% TiO$_2$ sol solution calcined at $750^\circ{C}$.

  • Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate)(EVA) microspheres were prepared by a thermally induced phase separation. The microsphere formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in the metastable region. The diluents used were toluene. The microsphere formation and growth was followed by the cloud point of the optical microscope measurement. The microsphere size, which was obtained by SEM observation and particle size analyzer, became decreased when the titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) concentration was higher. The deodorizing function of the prepared fabrics was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3$. The deodorant activity of these deodorizing fabrics was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorant activity of $NH_3$ increased with increasing $TiO_2$ concentration of EVA microsphere.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial, antiperspirant and deodorant effect of herb mixtures including Schisandra chinensis(SC). This herb mixtures including Schisandra chinensis was made of Astragalus membranaceus(AM), Triticum aestivum(TA), Atractylodes japonica(AJ) and peppermint essential oil extracted from Mentha piperita(MP). We examined antimicrobial activity, antiperspirant activity and L-leucine dehydrogenase activity of the herbal extracts. We found that the mixture of SC and MP have the best antimicrobial effects on B. subtilis subsp. spizizenii and mixture of SC, AJ, AM and TA have best antiperspirant effect. Moreover, the combination of SC and AM showed the most inhibitory effect on L-leucine dehydrogenase activity. These results suggested that the herb mixtures Including Schisandra chinensis have good antimicrobial and antiperspirant effects.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the dyeability and functional properties of dyed fabric with the extract of Myrica rubra rind. For this purpose, the ultraviolet and visible spectra of the bark extracts were investigated. The dyeing temperature, dyeing time, mordant type, mordanting order, mordant concentration and dyeability were investigated. The color fastness based on washing, dry-cleaning, rubbing and light were evaluated by the types of Myrica rubra rind extract used. In addition, the deodorization and antibacterial activity were measured, and the functionality of the silk fabric dyed with the extract of the Myrica rubra rind was evaluated. The result shows that the color strength of the dye was excellent when the Myrica rubra rind was dyed at $80^{\circ}C$ for 80 minutes. The mordant dye color strength was high in the order of Fe mordant> Cu mordant> Al mordant. The dyeability of Al and Cu mordant was high during pre-mordanting compared to Fe mordant, and the dyeability of Fe mordant was high during post-mordanting than Cu and Al mordant. The deodorant property of the dyed fabric stained with the Myrica rubra rind extract was 92.4% and that of antibacterial property was 99.9% for Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria respectively.
