  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the grain distribution and compaction characteristics of structural backfill with reclaimed soil. Five(5) reclaimed soil samples which passed #200 sieve have been used in the test. The study showed that the maximum dry density and the bearing value rate turned out to be becoming smaller when the more the quantity passed #200 sieve, the smaller the soil grain. The maximum dry density value calculated from the compaction md relative density test showed wet method > compaction method > dry method. The correlation coefficient between Rc and Dr based on the grain distribution and the compaction characteristics showed that the maximum dry density value by the wet method is little higher than the compaction method and dry method.

  • An immersed boundary method for simulation of density-stratified flows has been developed and applied to computation of viscous flows past three different types of obstacle under table density stratification, namely laminar flows past a vertical barrier, a cosine hill, and a sphere, respectively. Density forcing is introduced on the body surface or inside the body. Significant changes in flow characteristics are observed depending on Fr. The numerical results are in good agreement with other authors' experimental and numerical results currently available, and shed light on computation of density-stratified flows in complex geometries.

  • An immersed boundary method for simulation of density-stratified flows is developed and applied to computation of viscous flows over two-dimensional obstacles in a bounded domain under stable density stratification. Density sources/sinks are introduced on the body surface. Two obstacle shapes are used, a vertical barrier and a smooth cosine-shaped hill; weak stratification, defined by $K=ND/{\pi}U{\leq}1$, where U, N, and D are the upstream velocity, buoyancy frequency, and domain height, respectively, is considered. The results are consistent with other authors' calculations, and shed light on computation of density-stratified flows in complex geometries.

  • Magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscopes (MSSGs) provide an interesting alternative for achieving precious attitude angular measurement. To effectively reduce the measurement error caused by the non-uniformity of the air-gap flux density in a MSSG, this paper proposes a novel compensation method based on measuring and modeling of the air-gap flux density. The angular velocity measurement principle and the structure of the MSSG are described, and then the characteristic of the air-gap flux density has been analyzed in detail. Next, to compensate the flux density distribution error and improve the measurement accuracy of the MSSG, a real-time compensation method based on the online measurement with hall probes is designed. The common issues caused by the non-uniformity of the air-gap flux density can be effectively resolved by the proposed method in high-precision magnetically suspended configurations. Comparative simulation results before and after compensation have verified the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed compensation method.

  • Form-finding for cable-membrane structures is a delicate operation. During the last decades, the force density method (FDM) was considered to be an efficient method to address the problem. Many researchers were devoted to improving this method and proposed many methods such as natural force density method (NFDM), improved nonlinear force density method (INFDM), et al. In this paper, a modified nonlinear force density method (MNFDM) is proposed. In this method, the stresses of membrane elements were transformed to the force-densities of cable nets by an equivalent relationship, and then they can be used as initial conditions. By comparing with the forming finding results by using the FDM, NFDM, INFDM and MNFDM, it had demonstrated that the MNFDM presented in this paper is the most efficient and precise.

  • An ozone condenser by a selective adsorption on the silica gel surface is constructed. Ozone density is evaluated by three methods; ultraviolet absorption, thermal decomposition and Q-mass analyzing methods. Thermal decomposition method is found to be available to the density evaluation from dilute to highly condensed ozone. The highest ozone density condensed by the adsorption method is evaluated to be 97 mol%.

  • We applied the density-surfactant-motivated method to the removal of DNAPL within a rough-walled single fracture. Observations are made to compare the DNAPL residual distribution before and after the flushing of surfactant-enhanced solution or water flushing. Results show that density-motivated method with surfactant-enhanced solution effectively removed DNAPL in a single fracture.

  • Optimal topology design is to search the optimal configuration of a structure which can be used as a shape at the conceptual design stage. Our objective is to maximize the stiffness of the structures and ribs under a material usage constraintl. The density of each finite element is the design variable and its relationship with Young's modulus is expressed by quadratic form. The configuration is represented by the entire density distribution, the structural analysis is performed by finite element method and the optimiza- tion is performed by Feasible Direction Method. Feasible Direction Method can handle various problems simultaneously, that is, mult-objectives and multi-constraints. Total computation time can be reduced by the quadratic relationship between the density and the material property and fewer design variables than Homogenization Method. Toplogy optimization technique developed in this research is applied to design the shapes of the ribs.

  • Suppose we have a set of data X1, ···, Xn and employ kernel density estimator to estimate the marginal density of X. in this article bandwith selection problem for kernel density estimator is examined closely. In particular the Kullback-Leibler method (a bandwith selection methods based on average square error (ASE)) is considered.
