  • Mammographic breast density is a known risk factor for breast cancer. To conduct a survey to estimate the distribution of mammographic breast density in Korean women, appropriate sampling strategies for representative and efficient sampling design were evaluated through simulation. Using the target population from the National Cancer Screening Programme (NCSP) for breast cancer in 2009, we verified the distribution estimate by repeating the simulation 1,000 times using stratified random sampling to investigate the distribution of breast density of 1,340,362 women. According to the simulation results, using a sampling design stratifying the nation into three groups (metropolitan, urban, and rural), with a total sample size of 4,000, we estimated the distribution of breast density in Korean women at a level of 0.01% tolerance. Based on the results of our study, a nationwide survey for estimating the distribution of mammographic breast density among Korean women can be conducted efficiently.

  • In this paper, we introduced a LIF measurement method and summarized the theoretical side. When an altered wavelength of laser and electric power, lamp applied electric power, we measured the relative density of the metastable state in mercury after observing a laser induced fluorescence signal of 404.8nm and 546.2nm, and confirmed the horizontal distribution of plasma density in the discharge lamp. Due to this generation, the extinction of atoms in a metastable state occurred through collision, ionization, and excitation between plasma particles. The density and distribution of the metastable state depended on the energy and density of plasma particles, intensely. This highlights the importance of measuring density distribution in plasma electric discharge mechanism study. The results confirmed the resonance phenomenon regarding the energy level of atoms along a wavelength. change, and also confirmed that the largest fluorescent signal in 436nm, and that the density of atoms in 546.2nm ($6^3S_1{\to}6^3P_2$) were larger than 404.8nm ($6^3S_1{\to}6^3P_2$). According to the increase of lamp applied electric power, plasma density increased, too. When increased with laser electric power, the LIF signal reached a saturation state in more than 2.6mJ. When partial plasma density distribution along a horizontal axis was measured using the laser induced fluorescence method, the density decreased by recombination away from the center.

  • Electrochemical systems find widespread technical application. Industrial electrolytic process include electroplating, electroforming, and electropolishing. Electroforming and electroplating is widely used in the manufacture of metal parts. This paper based on the basic equations of electrics and electrochemical kinetics, was employed for a theoretical explanation of the current density distribution on electroforming process. We calculated current density distribution and potential distribution on cathode. Also, calculated current density distribution of vertical direction. It was shown that current density is related with distance of between anode and cathode and mass transfer process. And make an experiment on its relation and electroformed thickness. It shows that it is useful method using FEM with multi-physics to estimate electroformed thickness.

  • Dislocation density and distribution in epitaxial GaAs layer on Si are evaluated quantitatively and effectively using image processing of transmission electron microscopy image. In order to evaluate dislocation density and distribution, three methods are introduced based on line-intercept, line-length measurement and our coding with line-scanning method. Our coding method based on line-scanning is used to detect the dislocations line-by-line effectively by sweeping a thin line with the width of one pixel. The proposed method has advances in the evaluation of dislocation density and distribution. Dislocations can be detected automatically and continuously by a sweeping line in the code. Variation of dislocation density in epitaxial GaAs films can be precisely analyzed along the growth direction on the film.

  • A solar concentrator, named KIERDISH II, was built at KIER in order to investigate the feasibility of high temperature solar energy application system. The constructed concentrator is a dish type solar concentrator with a focal length of 4.68m and a diameter of 7.9m. To successfully operate KIERDISH II, optimal design of the absorber is very important and flux density distribution has to be known. The focal flux density distribution on the receiver was measured. We have observed the shape and size of flux images and evaluated percent power within radius. Flux density distribution is usually measured by a CCD(charge coupled device) camera and a radiometer. In this paper we present a flux mapping method to estimate the characteristic features of the flux density distribution in the focal region of solar concentrator. The minimum radius of receiver is found to be 0.15m and approximately 90% of the incident radiation is intercepted by receiver aperture.

  • In this paper, with optimal normalized constants, the asymptotic expansions of the distribution and density of the normalized maxima from generalized Maxwell distribution are derived. For the distributional expansion, it shows that the convergence rate of the normalized maxima to the Gumbel extreme value distribution is proportional to 1/ log n. For the density expansion, on the one hand, the main result is applied to establish the convergence rate of the density of extreme to its limit. On the other hand, the main result is applied to obtain the asymptotic expansion of the moment of maximum.

  • Electron temperature, electron density and electron energy distribution function were measured in Radio-Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma(RFICP) using a probe method. Measurements were conducted in argon discharge for pressure from 10 mTorr to 40 mTorr and input rf power from 100W to 600W and flow rate from 3 sccm to 12 sccm. Spatial distribution electron temperature and electron density and electron energy distribution function were measured for discharge with same aspect ratio(R/L=2). Electron temperature was found to depend on pressure, but only weakly on power. Electron density and electron energy distribution function strongly depended on both pressure and power. Electron density and electron energy distribution function increased with increasing flow rate. Radial distribution of the electron density and electron energy distribution function were peaked in the plasma center. Normal distribution of the electron density electron energy distribution function were peaked in the center between quartz plate and substrate. These results were compared to a simple model of ICP, then we found out the generation mechanism of Radio-Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma.

  • In URD(Underground Residential Distribution) power cable, experiments of WVT(Water Vapor Transmission) test on the Base Resin accomplished to specimens which contained CB(Carbon Black), anti-oxidant to base resin and made by pressing to resin of pellet or lump form. a kind of specimens was HDPE(High Density Polyethylene), MDPE(Medium Density Polyethylene), LDPE(Low Density Polyethylene), LLDPE(Linear Low Density Polyethylene), PVC(Polyvinyl Chloride). as a results of WVT test, we saw that WVT ratio was HDPE < LLDPE < MDPE≒LDPE${\ll}$ PVC. WVT properties of PVC using for jacket showed properties 15-20 times more than MDPE or LLDPE. Therefore, to development of watertightness cable, our works present need of Changing in insulating materials.

  • The skin color model is a very important concept in face detection, face recognition and face tracking. Usually, this model is obtained by estimating a probability density function of skin color distribution. In many cases, it is assumed that the underlying density function follows a Gaussian distribution. In this paper, a new method for non-parametric estimation of the probability density function, by using feed-forward neural network, is used to estimate the underlying skin color model. By using this method, the resulting skin color model is better than the Gaussian estimation and substantially approaches the real distribution. Applications to face detection and face ...

  • The problem of structural topology optimization can be relaxed and converted into the optimal density distribution problem. The optimal density distribution must be post-processed to get the real shape of the structure. The extracted shape can then be used for the next process, which is usually shape optmization based on the boundary movement method. In the practical point of view, it is very important to get the optimal density distribution from which the corresponding shape can easily be extracted. Among many other factors, the presence of checker-board patterns is a powerful barrier for the shape extraction job. The nature of checker-board patterns seems to be a numerical locking. In this paper, an efficient algorithm is presented to suppress the checker-board patterns. At each iteration, density is re-distributed after it is updated according to the optimization rule. The algorithm also results in the optimal density distribution whose corresponding shape has smooth boundary. Some examples are presented to show the performance of the density re-distribution algorithm. Checker-board patterns are successfully suppressed and the resulting shapes are considered very satisfactory.
