  • Deterministic techniques have been applied in power system planning for many years and there is a growing interest in combining these techniques with probabilistic considerations to assess the increased system stress due to the restructured electricity environment. The overall reliability framework proposed in this paper incorporates the deterministic N-1 criterion in a probabilistic framework, and results in the joint inclusion of both adequacy and security considerations in system planning. The combined framework is achieved using system well-being analysis and traditional adequacy assessment. System well-being analysis is used to quantify the degree of N-1 security and N-1 insecurity in terms of probabilities and frequencies. Traditional adequacy assessment is Incorporated to quantify the magnitude of the severity and consequences associated with system failure. The concepts are illustrated by application to two test systems. The results based on the overall reliability analysis framework indicate that adequacy indices are adversely affected by a generation deficient environment and security indices are adversely affected by a transmission deficient environment. The combined adequacy and security framework presented in this paper can assist system planners to realize the overall benefits associated with system modifications based on the degree of adequacy and security, and therefore facilitate the decision making process.

  • Purpose: This study was to assess the degree of infection prevention behaviors at home, and a relationship between those behaviors and barrier factors among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Method: The data were collected from 92 cancer patients who were undergoing chemotherapy with more than two kinds of immunosuppressive agents at G university hospital in J city from February 17 to April 4, 2003. The instruments were the infection prevention behavior scale developed by researchers and the barrier factor scale by Gu et al. (2003). The data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient by SPSS program. Results: The mean score of the behaviors for infection prevention was 2.61 of 4. The highest score was on the subscale 'rest and exercise', and the lowest score was on the subscale 'monitoring sign and symptom of infection'. And a negative correlation(r= -.208, p= .023) was found between infection prevention behaviors and barrier factors. The barriers correlated to infection prevention behaviors were mainly 'no habits' and 'no interest'. Conclusion: It seems that the degree of the behaviors for infection prevention was not performed enough to prevent infection among cancer patients. And there was negative relationship between infection prevention behaviors and barriers. We suggest to develop a nursing intervention program to enhance infection prevention behaviors through reducing the barrier factors.

  • Companies have developed a keen interest in bolstering their CSR activities. Especially in Japan, CSR is strongly associated with social contribution and $m{\acute{e}}c{\acute{e}}nat$ activities. On the other hand, the primary purpose of companies is to provide their products and services to consumers and thereby return value to their shareholders through sales and profits. It is, however, difficult to estimate directly the relationship between CSR and sales/profits. This study focuses particularly on CSR activities related to environmental and consumer issues and community involvement and development. It is also analyzed the relationship between the degree of CSR empathy and product purchase motivation. For accomplishment the purpose, a questionnaire is designed that elicits the respondent's degree of purchase intention and empathy toward CSR activities supported through sales. The object industry for questionnaires is TV maker. For results of the questionnaire, a covariance structure analysis is conducted to understand potential relationships among CSR activities, sales, and disposable budget. Through this study, it is able to clear the relationship between CSR activities and sales/profits. It is one of the advice to future prospect, strategy and CSR concept for the companies.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate middle school students' perceptions of dietary education in Technology-Home Economics classes. Out of the 444 survey respondents of 3rd grade middle school students in Gyeonggi area, 78.1% of them appeared to have obtained knowledge and information on diet and nutrition primarily from the dietary education delivered in Technology-Home Economics classes. Specifically, 62.6% stated "The current dietary education was useful." and 67.3% said "School dietary education was necessary." However, 88.7% was not even aware of the current Dietary Education Support Act, which was enacted in 2009. On the basis of the 28 subject categories in dietary education, in general, the more interested students were in a specific subject, the more actively they applied their knowledge of that subjects in real situations. In all categories, female students had a greater degree of interest and were more likely to apply that know lodge than male students. Among the 28 subjects, they had greatest interest in 'Dining Manners and Etiquette' and 'Nutrition and Meals for Adolescents' while they expressed relatively little interest in the subject of 'Cooking and Culinary Education'. Their perception of the necessity of dietary education was most highly influenced by their interest in the subject 'Nutrition and Meals for Adolescents', which was followed by gender difference and 'Dining Manners and Etiquette' as the most influential subjects.

  • This study was practiced to compare educational status and recognition of Home Economics curriculum between alternative and general middle school students. The survey was conducted to 130 alternative school students and 241 general school students in Gyeonggi province. In students' satisfaction on their school, there is appeared the highest at 'average'(38.6%) in general schools and 'satisfied'(40.8%) in alternative schools, showing that those in alternative schools have greater satisfaction on their schools(p<0.001). In the degree of recognition on Home Economics curriculum, the perception as an 'important subject' was average of 3.08/5 points in general school and 3.32/5 points in alternative school, indicating that the recognition in alternative schools was higher than general ones(p<0.05). Also, degree of satisfaction on practice and lecture class was higher in alternative than general schools. However, it was found that the use of audiovisual learning material in alternative schools was much smaller than that of general ones, and the former had poor facilities and practice labs. Regarding degrees of interest in Home Economics curriculum, 'average'(36.9%) in general school and 'rather interested in the subject'(38.5%) in alternative schools were most common. About the opinion that they needed to learn Home Economics subject, the answer 'it is needed' was 67.6% in general schools and 79.2% in alternative ones, presenting that the students in alternative schools more felt the need to learn the subject(p<0.05). Regarding the comparison of interest level for each area in Home Economics curriculum according to gender, there was only difference on the area of 'preparation and management for clothing'. On the area, the degree of interest was higher in girls than boys at all the schools(p<0.05). Therefore, in alternative schools, it is suggested that various uses of audiovisual learning materials at teaching and expansion of practice facilities should be provided and created desirable Home Economics class. Also in general schools, it is urgent that countermeasures to increase the practice classes are established in order to improve interest and satisfaction of Home Economics education.

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of the level of cognitive affordance which explains an explicit interaction method on the interest of viewers. Viewer's recognition of the interaction method is associated with cognitive affordance as a matter of visual-perceptual exposure of the input device and viewer's cognition of it. The final goal of the research on affordance is to enhance the audience participation rather than the smooth interation. Many interactive media artworks have been designed with hiding the explicit explanation to the artwork due to worry that the explicit explanation may also hinder the induction of impressions leading the viewer to an aesthetic experience and the retainment of interest. In this context, we set up two hypotheses for study on cognitive affordance. First, the more explicit the explanation of interaction method is, the higher the viewer' understanding of interaction method is. Second, the more explicit the explanation of interaction method is, the lower the interest of the viewer is. An interactive media art work was manufactured with three versions which vary in the degree of visual-perceptual information suggestion and we analyzed the participation and interest level of audience in each version. As a result of the experiments, the version with high explicitness of interaction was found to have long time spent on watching and high participation and interest of viewers. On the contrary, the version with an unexplicit interaction method was found to have low interest and satisfaction of viewers. Therefore, regarding usability, the hypothesis that a more explicit explanation of interaction would lower the curiosity and interest in exploration of the viewer was dismissed. It was confirmed that improvement of cognitive affordance raised the interaction of the work of art and interest of the viewer in the proposed interactive content. This study implies that interactive media art work should be designed in view of that the interaction and interest of audience can be lowered when cognitive affordance is low.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate of soil hardening degree before sowing, furrow depth at sowing and flooding time after sowing at furrowing in flooded rice paddy field that many people have an interest in as direct sowing method most recently. As hardening period was increased, the percentage of seedling stand and seed floating at flooding were increased slightly, while buried depth of stem at maximum tillering stage and cone penetration depth were decreased, respectively. Therefore, optimum degree of soil hardening was about 3 days after draining, at this time, cone penetration degree was about 6~7cm. According to furrow depth was more and more deep, buried depth of stem was increased gradually, but percentage of seedling stand was decreased considerbly. Also, root distribution ratio on surpace horizon and lodging degree were increased gradually according to furrow depth become more and more shallow. As flooding time after sowing was late, percentage of seedling stand and panicle number per $m^2$ were decreased slightly. These results apparently indicated that sowing after 3 days hardening when cone penetration degree was 6~7cm, furrow depth 3~4cm degree and flooding time just after sowing the best method to good establish of seedling stand.

  • Since earlier in 1947 the writer had been devoting part of his time to study alluvial fans in Korea based on his own interest in geomorphology. However, it was in 1958 when a new geography department was set up and the Research Center of National Lands was established in the university of Kyung Hee, the writer started scientific investigation for alluvial fans. The Following alluvial fans have been studied by the writer: those of Mt. Kwanak and Mt. Chungge in 1947; those of Pulkuksa in 1948; those of Suhnamsa, Suh Myun, Pusan in 1950; those of Shindonae, Mt. Kerrong, in summer of 1958; those of Hwaomsa, Kure and Yongsan Myun, Changhung, in winter of 1958. The article is the comparative study of the above mentioned alluvial fans including Suhkwangsa Fan, Chugaryng Rift Valley. Of course this is not the study covering all af alluvial fans in Korea. Within the limits of his surbey, the writer has com to a conclusion which may be helpful for the Korean alluvial fm study. 1. Korean alluvial fans are generally found in rift valleys or basins. 2. They are formed in places of below 220-meter contour line. 3. The slope from fna apex to river valley is 20-40 degree. The slope of fan surface is 5-20 degree, but most of them under 16 degree. A sudden change of slope is taken place or the fan apex and fan center. 4. Hills (100-200m) are developed on the surfaces of alluvial fans. 5. Most of rivers in alluvial fans are geyser rivers. 6. The depth of well : from ground surface to the well water surface is 4-8 m; water depth is 1-2m. 7. Land utilization; cultivated land 30%: non cultivatedland 70%. The area occupied by upland fields is twice of paddy field area. 8. Settlement : agglomerated settlement is developed on the top or the end of fan and surrounded by windbreakers. 9. Farming pattern at the top of fan fields are rectangular and parallel to flumes but at the center of fan, they are irregular and perpendicular to flumes.
