Deformation analysis is a major concern in many geotechnical applications. In this paper, the deformation behavior of a geocell mattress subjected to symmetric loads was studied. The mattress was idealized as an elastic foundation beam. The horizontal beam-soil interfacial shear resistances at the beam top and bottom sides were taken into account by assuming the resistances to be linear with the relative horizontal displacements. A decoupled iterative method was employed to solve the differential displacement equations derived from the force analysis of a beam element and to obtain the solutions for the deformations and internal forces of the geocell reinforcement. The validity of the present solutions was verified by the existing finite element method and power-series solutions.

This paper is devoted to two new techniques for free vibration analysis of concrete arch dam-reservoir systems. The proposed schemes are quadratic ideal-coupled eigen-problems, which can solve the originally non-symmetric eigen-problem of the system. To find the natural frequencies and mode shapes, a new special-purpose eigen-value solution routine is developed. Moreover, the accuracy of the proposed approach is thoroughly assessed, and it is confirmed that the new scheme is very accurate under all practical conditions. It is also concluded that both decoupled and ideal-coupled strategy proposed in the previous works can be considered as special cases of the current more general procedure.

This paper presents a method to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor supported by sintered metal bearing and flexible structures by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method considering the asymmetry of the gyroscopic effect and sintered metal bearing. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are calculated by solving the eigenvalue problem and the adjoint eigenvalue problem by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The decoupled equations of motion can be obtained from global finite element motion equations by using the orthogonal relation between the right eigenvectors and left eigenvectors. The decoupled equations of motion are used to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor. The validity of the proposed method is verified by comparing the simulated unbalance response with the experimental results.
This paper presents a new algorithm in formulating a performance index for contingency selection method considering voltage security. Security limits defined-in terms of real power line flows and voltage magnitudes are considered in normalized subspaces where in critical contingencies are identified by a filtering algorithm using the infinite norm. Two types of limits, warning limit and emergency limit, are introduced for voltage and line flow. Usually performance indices have been constructed for real power line flows and voltages with each different criterion. This paper, however, presents a method that constructs them with the same criterion in use of the norm properties, so that we can assess security considering both of them. Rapid contingency simulation is performed using one iteration of fast decoupled load flows with LMML(Inverse Matrix Modification Lemma).
An efficient numerical method to solve the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is developed. A fully implicit time advancement is employed to avoid the CFL(Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy) restriction, where the Crank-Nicholson discretization is used for both the diffusion and convection terms. Based on a block LU decomposition, velocity-pressure decoupling is achieved in conjunction with the approximate factorization. Main emphasis is placed on the additional decoupling of the intermediate velocity components with only n th time step velocity The temporal second-order accuracy is Preserved with the approximate factorization without any modification of boundary conditions. Since the decoupled momentum equations are solved without iteration, the computational time is reduced significantly. The present decoupling method is validated by solving the turbulent minimal channel flow unit.

A program was developed to analyze the electrical characteristics and harmonic distrotion in a two-dimensional silicon BJT. The finite difference equations of the small signal and its second and thired harmonics for basic semiconductor equations are formulated treating the nonlinearity and time dependence with Volterra series and Taylor series. The soluations for three sets of simultaneous equations were obtained sequantially by a decoupled iteration method and each set was solved by a modified Stone's algorithm. Distortion magins and ac parameters such as input impedance and current gains are calculated with frequency and load resistance as parameters. The distortion margin vs. load resistancecurves show cancellation minima when the pahse of output voltage shifts. It is shown that the distortionof small signal characteristics can be reduced by reducing the base width, increasing the emitter stripe length and reducing the collector epitaxial layer doping concentration in the silicon BJT structure. The simulation program called TRADAP can be used for the design and optimization of transistors and circuits as well as for the calculation of small signal and distortion solutions.

Load Flow calulation methods can usually be divided into Gauss-Seidel method, Newton-Raphson method and decoupled method. Load flow calculation is a basic on-line or off-line process for power system planning. operation, control and state analysis. These days Newton-Raphson method is mainly used since it shows remarkable convergence characteristics. It, however, needs considerable calculation time in construction and calculation of inverse Jacobian matrix. In addition to that, Newton-Raphson method tends to fail to converge when system loading is heavy and system has a large R/X ratio. In this paper, matrix equation is used to make algebraic expression and then to slove load flow equation and to modify above defects. And it preserve P-Q bus part of Jacobian matrix to shorten computing time. Application of mentioned algorithm to 14 bus, 39 bus, 118 bus systems led to identical results and the same numbers of iteration obtained by Newton-Raphson method. The effect of computing time reduction showed about 28% , 30% , at each case of 39 bus, 118 bus system.
